"oh but its "wuthering heights" and not wuthering heights so its a loose adaptation, maybe even its abt the fantasies in her head!"
??? this just makes it much worse ???
seven husbands of evelyn hugo deserves a daisy jones and the six type of screen adaptation :(
if there's anything that the huger games series teaches you it should be that revolutions take time alongside persistent action.
Dispatchin' ain't easy... 📞
i think i understand why book fans say that the show percy feels so different. its because we know his perspective and inner monologue in the books, we know he's funny, witty and cool. but if you see percy from the perspective of other characters, i.e., in the HoH series, he's broody and lowkey scary. the show forgets we now see him from a third person pov, and so he doesn't feel like himself for us book fans.
This was something I thought a lot about in season 1 because I didn't understand why we weren't getting any of the comedic theming from the books. And it boils down to not being in Percy's head anymore, but it's also that the show runners have to be careful with how they compensate for that in the series.
If you read a book from a 12-year-old's POV about how he's facing terrifying, trauma-inducing monsters and carrying far too much responsibility on his young shoulders, it makes sense to read him crack jokes and play into absurdity about it in his head. That's how he's coping with everything.
But if you're watching a 12-year-old kid face monsters ten times his size, trek across the country with two other kids and no adult (yes I know Grover is 24), and come face to face with literal gods that would happily put him in an early grave and you don't get to hear his inner monologue, suddenly it feels out of touch. Why would we, as an audience, be okay with subjecting these kids to such perilous conditions? It sounds like the stuff of the Hunger Games universe.
It's a big reason why so many people wanted an animated series because you can have the suspended disbelief that things are just being cartoonishly blown out of proportion. Animation allows characters to be squishy and bounce back easier. But live action plants our feet on the ground and makes us face the monsters that are larger than life, but suddenly made realistic. But hey, that just means we're all a whole lot more susceptible to being recruited to Kronos' army.
YES! this makes so much sense! esp how you related to the hunger games. i was having a similar convo with a friend where she brought up how in the first movie they had to change the mutated dogs faces to look like animals and not like the dead tributes because it def would've ended up with an R rating for being too gruesome and graphic (which is also the whole point)
Also, i can now see why they chose a live action over animated, i do agree a live action makes it feel more "real"

I've not seen enough discourse on the line "poured my heart out to a stranger but i didn't pour the whiskey"????
It could mean so many things.
On one hand, it can mean that she feels so guilty for taking advantage of a stranger by trauma dumping. She doesn't 'pour the whiskey' for them, ie, doesn't entertain them.
On the other hand, it could symbolize that she doesn't let the pain and sadness bottle up inside her/harm harm herself, ie, doesnt pour the whiskey for herself. Instead, she can now openly talk about her pain to others, and this is a sign of healing.
i love how chem labs are like 'DO NOT TOUCH YOU WILL DIE DO NOT BREATHE IN THIS DIRECTION AT ALL' and physics labs are like 'eh fuck around and find out ig'
