Here me out on this, for here is my Sword Bastard Child Investigation:
TW- OPINIONS, LENGHTY TEXT, DITF SPOILERS!
MAIN THEORY:
Sword may secretly be the child of a deity and a mortal, despite believing that he naturally spawned. Since relationships between deities and mortals are taboo, his actual origins could have been hidden from him. The mysterious “secret” mentioned by Windforce and Venomshank in DITF COULD be connected to this, since we already know Sword is of deity blood.
There are 4 POSSIBLE CANDIDATES TO BE SWORD'S PARENT (ranked from least to most likely)-
Darkheart
Windforce
Venomshanks
Firebrand
CASE 1- DARKHEART:-
Darkheart is our least likely candidate. He is known for messing around with mortals and having strained relationships with certain mortals (ahem Zuka ahem), so it isn't completely impossible that he could have fallen for a mortal in the process of trying to mess around with them.
The biggest problem is the 26 year gap. If Darkheart was Sword's parent, why would he disappear for so long after Sword was given to VS, only to suddenly return and help Sword find Medkit? The timeline ain't adding up... (。_。).
CASE 2- WINDFORCE:-
WF is our second candidate. During her Spawnday Q&A, someone asked if she had ever fallen for a mortal, and instead of giving a simple answer, she basically laughed it off with the whole “in your dreams, this deity is flying solo” thing. So...she COULD'VE been deflecting the question, although this isn't concrete proof T0T.
Her behavior toward Sword in DITF could also be interpreted as resentment or shame over some past relationship. However, her anger in the flashback seems much more focused on VS taking Sword in and not taking up the responsibility to lead the Lost Temple after The Scorch.
Her relationship with Banhammer also makes the theory weaker, since WF clearly seems capable of being a strict but caring parent. She doesn't really seem like someone who would simply hate her own child, regardless of other relations.
CASE 3- VENOMSHANKS:-
VS is where the theory gets REALLY suspicious.
He treats Sword much more like a parent than merely a mentor. He's extremely protective, constantly keeps an eye on Sword, and gets incredibly angry, transforming into his mindless monstrous state when WF accidentally cuts Sword's cheek during their fight (っ °Д °;)っ.
The biggest piece of evidence is the mysterious conversation during Sword's flashback:
WF: “Haven't you told him the secret yet?”
VS: “What secret?”
WF: “That secret.”
This strongly suggests that WF and VS know something about Sword that Sword himself doesn't know.
VS could potentially be Sword's biological parent, but another possibility is that he simply knows the truth about Sword's actual parentage and raised him to keep him safe.
CASE 4- FIREBRAND:-
FB is currently my MOST SUSPECTED candidate.
This theory relies more heavily on interpretation, but several details line up. Firebrand (possibly?) goes insane, destroys the Lost Temple, and then disappears. Meanwhile, VS raises Sword, and Sword seemingly knows nothing about his true origins.
The mysterious “secret” between WF and VS could potentially be interpreted as something like “Have you told Sword that Firebrand is his parent yet?”
Then there's the really interesting part: the fire imagery around Sword. In panels in DITF where DH talks about Sword having huge amounts of wasted potential and how he could have become something feared, there appear to be flames in the background and in Sword's eyes.
Since DITF occasionally hides lore clues in backgrounds and panel details, that makes the fire imagery worth paying attention to. It obviously doesn't prove that Firebrand is Sword's parent, but it makes the theory a LOT more interesting.
Personally, I prefer this theory as even though it's heavily interpreted without ANY solid proof, it would create an amazing plot twist IF ykwim 0-0.
