FINAL INSTALLMENT of our series: ‪#‎CounterCulture‬ Up to now, we've discussed the counter cultural phenomenon that is Jesus Christ. Everything about Him embodied a force that challenged and disrupted social normalcy. He in very essence defines 'counter culture.' Beyond that, He's called us to follow Him, to be His disciples. He gave us unfettered access to the depths of knowing God as Savior, Father, and Friend. An open invitation. Where culture says the recipe for greatness is an unrelenting desire for success, Jesus says true success is found in desiring Him. True greatness is gaining Christ. God has invited us to new life in Jesus Christ. To true greatness. He wants to turn our world upside down. No more settling and no more helplessness. He wants to ‪#‎changeyournormal‬. How? By giving him e v e r y t h i n g . All of our baggage, our sin, our merits, who we are. It's costly, but it's worth it. He's calling us to trade our 'normal' for His normal. He's inviting us to the infinite value of gaining Christ... because regardless of what our world says, our "everything" is worthless in comparison to what He has ready for us in Christ. Having acknowledged the impact of Jesus on culture, the things He has done for us, and what He desires to do in us, we end this series talking about what He desires to do T H R O U G H us. Jesus is counter cultural. Everything about him defied and disrupted the social norms of his time here on earth. He was filled, consumed with a passion and a cause to turn the hearts of humankind back to their Creator--back to Himself. He challenged "normal" with the hope that genuineness might once again be restored to the pursuit of God. If that wasn't enough, he called us, his creation, to be a part of this great, revolutionary, redemptive mission. What's more, he didn't pick the best-of-the-best, but started at the bottom. Jesus called followers to himself that were desperate, rejected, hopeless sinners. Not for the sake of excluding the joyful, but to send a message that would resonate across time and creation: All are welcome. Jesus leveled the field, turning everything man thought would qualify them for greatness on it's head. Tonight, we start part 3 and the second half of the ‪#‎counterculture‬ sermon series: ‪#‎SelfVersusCounterCulture‬ ... In light of everything Christ is and what he's called us to, will we answer the challenge? The challenge to live a counter cultural lifestyle for Jesus? Many of us, because of this, will end up sacrificing our dreams for survival. We will collectively submit to the demands of life and our culture and slip down into the next available alternative. BUT, Jesus says different. Through Jesus, you can accomplish anything beyond your wildest dreams. All we have to do is follow... but it doesn't stop there, Jesus doesn't just want to make you great, he wants you to be great in the Kingdom. He desires to take you past your dreams! Jesus says to the aspiring fishermen and crew, "you want fish? Fine. Here's more fish than you can handle," and then follows up with, "you think that's great? Join me and fish for men." ...
