Alright so after bawling my eyes out for a good ten minutes, I put my mind to work and I want to share my thoughts on why Lexa is not dead.
I believe that Lexa is actually inside of some kind of chamber and her mind was uploaded to the chip that was put into her body.
Therefore I believe this scene is Clarke finally meeting the real, very much human, Lexa.
When asked what the most powerful weapon of season 3 is, Jason replied with simply “Love”
For my theory I believe that whenever a commander’s AI body gets killed, their human counterpart located in a secure facility somewhere on the ground is ‘unplugged’. This is why we haven’t seen any of the former commanders walking around in Polis.
Now, robots are typically ordered to ‘not love’ which can be shown through the much recited “Love is weakness” tag everyone seems to be so interested in.
However Lexa fell in love with Clarke (we’ve heard numerous cast and crew announcing this such as Eliza and Jason). I strongly believe that the love Lexa feels for Clarke has never been felt by any of the previous commanders, which is why Titus mentioned that Lexa was unlike any of his previous successors.
Now moving onto Lexa’s suspicious “Death is not the end” quote from way back when. I believe that this quote has much more meaning that we were lead to interpret (which is why, after taking the chip, Jason had Jaha repeat the message loud and clear as a foreshadowing).
I think it literally means that when the commander is killed, it is only their AI body that is destroyed and their perfectly normal, human body is still safe until they are unplugged and/or executed by the people who are monitoring them.
A. Lexa is always so non-chalant about dying
B. Why Lexa insisted, although knowing about Clarke’s skills as a healer, that there was nothing that can be done. This is completely true if her body was entirely AI. Without experience in mechanics or without backup parts, Lexa’s body can’t be healed by Clarke.
In this picture, it would seem Clarke and Lexa are exiting a building that looks much like a scientific research or laboratory facility, in my opinion Clarke went in for reasons unknown and found or was saved by Lexa.
The reason why Lexa woke up can be explained by the previous quote. If love is the most powerful weapon and we have just discovered that Lexa is probably the first of the commanders to fall in love, Lexa may wake up after she dies but in her real, human body.
I believe commanders are chosen when the AI chip finds a night-blood (who’s blood is at the moment still red) and they are taken to the facility where they are plugged into a machine and their AI bodies are created.
Think for a second, we know that the technology in The 100 is outstanding and we know that the commanders have black blood (I’m betting the 8th child that Lexa didn’t want to speak of is Ontari and she is possibly a rogue AI). And even with The 100’s track record, I think humans with black blood is a little crazy. Which is why I believe that the Lexa we all know and love is alive and well in a facility where she is about to wake up and all this time her mind has been placed within an AI. The reasons behind this could be because the commander has to be strong enough to control all 12 clans and let’s face it, a 20 something year old girl with a bad attitude and a soft spot for blondes doesn’t seem worthy enough to keep the peace….
Unless she was an AI who is stronger and more powerful than an average human…..
So even if this theory is completely far-fetched, I’m choosing to believe in it because if I believe 100% that Lexa is gone, I’m afraid I will die.
