I understand a lot of people listen to CR as a podcast but honestly? you are missing the most amazing non-verbal background things, esp now that Tal, Laura and Sam are sitting at what I call the ‘CHAOTIC ADORABLE’ table

Laura: *fidgeting with a bag of lollipops, carefully trying to pick one out only to drop it on the floor* DD:

Tal: …*just pours the whole bag onto the table*

Laura: :D *picks a lollipop, same as Taliesin, and they CLINK THEM LIKE GLASSES THIS IS TOO SWEET*

seconds later

Laura: … *picks the lollipop from the floor and hands it to Sam*

Sam: ….*mouthing* was this on the floor?!

Laura: <_< >_>….*nods*

Sam: ….thanks?

ALL THIS happening while the ‘we’re trying to run a fucking game here’ table of Liam, Marisha and Travis are having a serious discussion with Matt about something or other

I can’t stop thinking about how well CR2 is playing with different aspects of horror and drama.

Like consider Caleb, getting hit by an ally and friend- and his world goes dark. Floating in nothingness before he gasps back to consciousness, only to see that same friend- eyes blank, that same nothingness leeching out life and color- standing above him, sword lifted in an uncontrollable rage, slamming down to bring more pain, grief, darkness, nothing.

And it happens again.

Or Beau, standing in front of this frothing, rage-incarnate woman who she’s gotten to know and love over these weeks of travel, hitting her again and again, bare knuckles split and bloody, just trying to bring her back and knowing she might not be able to.

Caduceus, too, laying immobilized in the corner, unconscious for minutes before slipping into a true abyss, not hearing Nott’s scream; waking up with a shattered diamond on his chest and Jester’s shaking hands helping him sit up, trying to act chipper when he doesn’t understand that he was gone. The irony when he immediately casts prayer of healing for everyone else is almost overwhelming.

Just- the nature of the game requires everyone to move on in the story. But slowing it down to these moments and thinking about how they would play out “for real” makes it all so much more satisfyingly macabre.
