little yap explanation about how i like to view the development of eddie's feelings for jason in the context of their relationship

i'll preface this by saying that i am well aware of the the whole "ooh you shouldn't headcanon real people's sexualities" thing. however we are in this rpf sphere here on tumblr and this is just part of what i do as characterization for my little ship which has no bearing on real life

anyway - all that to say i've grown fond in recent times of interpreting eddie as demi. demiromantic, probably demisexual as well? i think, in the specific context of his and jason's relationship it fits quite well and makes sense with how their connection developed

also as an aside this is no place for anyone to fight me on the usage or validity of that label, i'm not interested in hearing it

this is mostly built on the idea around them not being friends or being very close during their playing careers at bournemouth. which of course is backed up by quotes from them describing those times. even though they were a cb partnership for a time they were cordial but never truly got close, i think that's fair to say. and so in my own interpretations i typically don't see any romantic/sexual attraction, at least from eddie's side, happening in this era.

and so then some years later you obviously have the bournemouth managerial era. which is where they actually begin to develop a proper bond, being able to trust each other, rely on each other, growing comfortable with each other. and, for eddie who apparently has a hard time trusting/opening up to people, i feel like it just makes sense for that type of emotional connection to be the baseline for any attraction to form.

so basically the gist in my head is even though they had known each other for years already, it takes eddie an even longer time to become attracted to jason, as it only happens after they've built that bond/connection between them. and i think it's interesting that that bond isn't friendship, because neither of them would say they are friends. it's something different and more nebulous and less easily defined but it's what connects them and it's what draws eddie to jason

idk. it doesn't really matter and in the context of fic-universe or anything like that i don't think this is something eddie himself would probably even be aware of. i just think it's a neat addition to his character, something that makes it feel a bit more "authentic"(? basically i just mean detailed) and lines up with how long it might take them to start a proper romantic relationship
