Selecting fabrics These are the initial fabrics I was thinking of for my base layer of my 1950s ‘Audrey’ dress. I think they match the colour of the design quite well, but when layered under a sheer fabric such as organza or lace, the colour seems to be lost quite substantially. I have now decided to go for a pink as the top layer and have selected a light pink floral lace over a darker base material. The final fabric choice I have gone for is taffeta (pictured in the last photograph) as it is very reminiscent of the period and manages to still look formal whilst being light and ‘summery’. All samples are from fabric land and are under £5 a metre!
