MEET imogen cartwright:
slytherin | 7th year | half-blood
Imogen Cartwright came to the world kicking and screaming. She was born in the Cartwright Manor in Tarbert, Agryll, Scotland. Tarbert is a picture book village with a lot of pretty cottages, tiny shops a busy harbor and a ruined castle above. While the scenery she grew up in was more than just beautiful her childhood wasn’t easy at all. Imogen Cartwright is the illegitimate daughter of Thomas Cartwright and a muggle woman and because of that her birth has been a scandal already. The Cartwrights are an old pureblood dynasty and the contamination of that blood was a sin. While everybody has always looked at Imogen as if she was a mistake, a failure, people just pitied her dad. Nobody has ever blamed him for his affair. Not even Imogen’s mother while she has loathed her daughter from the first second. Well, maybe it is understandable since Imogen has been told that she looks just like her muggle mother. The only one who has always been nice to her and has tried not to let her feel that she was born with the wrong blood in her veins has been her father. Due to that she has always been really close to him. She has always wanted to make him proud and has always wanted to make her mother love her too. Nevertheless she began to realize pretty early- when she was about six - that her mother never looked at her like other people’s mothers looked at their children. She started trying to change that by bringing her gifts and constantly smiling at her, trying to help her with everything in the household but she had never received a smile in return. For a little girl that doesn’t know anything about the world of the grownups that is pretty difficult.
Two years later when she was eight she finally asked her dad why her mom hated her and why everybody was always looking at her so weirdly. This was the day her father told her about the biggest mistake of his life, the day she was fathered, but he also told her that it had been a day that led to a lot of amazing ones as well. When Imo asked why it was such a problem that her real mother wasn’t a witch like her mom her father told her about the pureblood ideology. She has never really understood this kind of thinking. Why should blood make someone a better or worse person? Her father couldn’t really explain it to her either. He just told her that it was a tradition, something his family always believed in and that he couldn’t just stop believing it. The day afterwards Imo talked to her dad again and told him that she maybe couldn’t change into a pureblood but that she would try to make his family proud anyway by being a wonderful witch. He looked at her with tears in his eyes and hugged her. “I love you kiddo, you know that, right?” he asked her quietly and she nodded, even though she wasn’t really sure about that.
When Imogen came to Hogwarts she had a pretty rough start. Most friends she had already made in the wizarding society were sorted into Gryffindor while for some reason the hat put her into Slytherin. Most Slytherins had resented her right from the start because she had the wrong blood status or because she used to stand up for others when they were treated unfairly. Imo has never made a secret of being a halfblood. There was no point in it since her birth had been a big scandal and everybody knew already. Instead she tried to keep her head held high and concentrate on her friends and the lessons instead of the bullies. She didn’t really care about those people anyway. The only ones whose opinion have been important to her are her parents and her friends. Hanging out with a bunch of Gryffindors that much didn’t really make her popular with her housemates either, but she just didn’t get along well with them and has always wanted to make the best out of her time at Hogwarts.
When she was about fifteen years old, she told her father that she wanted to become an auror and it had been true at that time. He had been incredibly proud of her and had ensured her that she would be able to do everything she set her pretty little mind on, but now, two years later, she isn’t really so sure about what she wants to work as anymore and it starts to scare her. The last thing she wants is to disappoint her father but would making him proud be really worth an entire life of doing a job she doesn’t want to do? Would she even make it to be an auror?
