Imogenâs spell hit her across the chest. Fuck. Why was she in this situation to begin with? All over a stupid study room? Imogen was the one who had to, and apparently continued to, bring up Celiaâs family. âYeah sure. Fucking show me which one of the curses killed my uncle. Be my guest.â Why was she always running her mouth? Sure, she believed in the things that she said. Her wand was now pulled out. She had it ready, but fuck, her body hurt from whatever spell Imogen had just sent at her.
âif you insist, bones,â imogen saw celiaâs wand at the ready, and it was bad duelling etiquette, maybe, to strike a foe who was already going down, but celia bones had dared to touch her with her filthy, traitorous hands that that just wouldnât stand. a streak of purple came shooting out of her wand----a favorite curse of her fatherâs, one that had nearly killed that mudblood granger in her fifth year----and struck celia right in the chest. as she went down, imogen stared at her dispassionately, noting the rise and fall of her chest to indicate that she was still alive---but not imogenâs problem. so she pocketed her wand, collected her things, and made sure to step over the other girl as she left. now, she just had to get back to the slytherin dormitories, ideally without anyone seeing the ugly bruise blooming across her right cheek.
Phoenix looked at the page number he was on so he could get right back to it, closed his book, and stood up to leave. âOnly small people try to bring others down who donât deserve it, Imogen,â he explained before trying to leave.
imogen moved to block his path, head cocked to the side, âand do you truly believe that, yaxley? that you donât deserve it? do you think youâre----what----a good man? a nice guy? let me shatter that delusion for you-----youâre not. and in my opinion, youâre not even particularly good at being a bad guy. so, this,â she gestured to the space between them, âisnât really so much me bringing you down as it is me reminding you where you truly belong.â
A friend would later ask Celia what happened. Celia didnât think of anything clever to say. Or pull from the words of Plato or Locke or Rousseau. She didnât even reach for her wand at first. She just remembered her fist crashing into Imogen Dolohovâs face.Â
imogen should have known a heathen like celia bones would resort to muggle fistfighting, but it still took her by surprise. her head snapped to the side under the impact and she grit her jaw, blinking back stars for a moment as she found her footing. âflagrante!â a fiery whip emerged from imogenâs wand, blasting towards celia and lashing across her, âyou know, celia, i know exactly which curse killed your darling uncle-----do you want me to show it to you?â
âNot in the mood, Dolohov,â he sighed, not even looking up from his schoolwork. âDo you need something? Or are you just here to block my light?â
imogen smiled; not in the mood was exactly what she wanted to hear. âand i should care about your mood why, yaxley? youâre worth less than the dust on my boots. is thatâs whats gotten you so worked up? have others finally realized that too? the truth can be hard to swallow for the weak.â
âBut some born to muggles do have it. And muggle who donât? Donât seem to need it as they are highly innovative all on their own. They even have created cars that can drive themselves. How does that make them any less capable? The fear of the unknown is understandable, and we have to own the responsibility that we have perpetuated that fear.â James didnât much care for being spoken down to, but he also didnât want Imogen to get the satisfaction of rattling him. âNo, but I do take you for a fool. There arenât too many pureblood families left. It wonât be long now before no wixenâs blood is not mixed with muggleâs.â
âbut itâs NOT theirs to have----and we donât know through which means they do have it.â imogen insisted, not backing down. she scoffed at his praising of apparent muggle âinnovationâ, âwe have instantaneous travel----any innovation on their part is still leagues behind what weâre capable of by the age of seventeen. and if given the chance, even with all of their advances that you claim, they would still covet our abilities if given the chance.â she sneered, then, shaking her her, âjust because your grandfather was so quick to sully his progenyâs blood by marrying a filthy little mudblood, doesnât mean other purebloods will rush to forget who this world truly belongs to.â
Celia leaned in the doorway, perhaps she would be sticking around after all. âMy entire existence being a mistake is an impossibility. Itâs called in vitro fertilization and is done purposefully. Nice try though.â
âand iâm sure if theyâd known for sure what they were getting, they wouldnât have wasted their time or money. so as i said, a mistake. one that, if your family history is any indication, will be thankfully corrected within a few years.â
âyou donât own this room,â regan spat out at the girl. she has had a stressful day and was not in the mood for anyoneâs bullshit.Â
âno, but i do own a wand i daresay iâm a bit more talented with than you, regan,â she stressed the otherâs first name, a mocking familiarity, âbut tell me----howâs your blood traitor bitch of a sister, lately? auror raids keeping her busy? it must be nice to know that no matter what you do, youâll only be the second biggest disappointment your father has had to face.â
âOur traditions are shit. And without muggleborns, our kind would have gone extinct along time ago unless you really wanted to rely on inbreeding to keep it going.â James had to remind himself that he was wasting his breath, yet he continued to trudge on anyway. He wasnât just going to let her spiel such hatred without disputing it, âMuggleborns bring new ideas to the table because they are part of the unique intersection between both worlds. If anything, they are the ones who have to throw themselves back a few centuries considering that Hogwarts still uses quills.â
âour traditions and laws have kept us safe from a group who would simultaneously vilify and idolize us----muggles canât help but FEAR a power they know in their bones they can never have, and envy those of us that do. they would choose to eradicate us to help soothe their own sense of weakness at being proven inferior.â imogen explained slowly, as though to a child. âinbreeding? who do you take me for, potter, a yaxley?â
âyou know what my favorite part of the basement study rooms are?â imogen said, not looking up from her book but noting the interruption that had just walked in, âthat when the door is closed, one can expect that people will realize itâs occupied and leave you alone.â she closed the book, vanishing it back to her bag---itâs contents not exactly school-appropriate, and finally looked up, âfind another room. this one is taken.â
âDo you hear yourself when you speak? Our educational standards? Yeah, they have been decided by your ilk, the purebloods, centuries ago and they havenât been updated since.â James grit his teeth, forced an exhale through his nose in an attempt to mediate his rising irritation. âWhenâs the last time the wizarding world has had any kind of grand innovation that wasnât influenced by muggle technology? Some of us actually like diversity, Dolohov, and donât find it a forced ideology to be embracing of differences.âÂ
âoh, please,â imogen waved his arguments away, however true they might, she didnât see it that way. âand why canât we innovate? because weâre constantly made to cater to the lowest common denominator, people who will never truly understand what it is to have magic be a part of them, who are just thrown into out world with no respect for our traditions or ways of life. when you have to slow down to allow the WEAK to keep up with the pack, how can progress be made?â
James understood that the situation was dire and concerning, but until they knew more and were able to act, he found it difficult to discuss at length save for with a select few. âItâs not just something we can forget, yeah, I know, but we should try and focus on school as well as we can. Now more than ever, donât you think? Itâs not as if what Professor West is lecturing on today is useless. And we can complain all we want about how ancient Binns is, but heâs seen things like tihs before hasnât he? Heâs a resource.â
imogen could only laugh. what else was there to do, really, the face of such.... terrible complacency? it only proved her point. âby all means, continued to use binns as a resource, potter. iâm sure his lectures on goblin wars will serve you well. itâs this kind of forced tolerance that has seen to the decline of not only hogwartsâ educational standards, but our world at large.â
hi all here i am w/ trash can #4 imogen dolohov aka my actual attempt at a truly evil death eater so here we go~
LETS GET DOWN TO BUSINESS: basically the dolohovs are a very well-off, very old russian family involved in the political spheres. imogenâs father is a russian minister and her mother belong to a socially active and well-connected bulgarian family, of whom she was the heiress of. imogen has one brother but make no mistake, she is the apple of her fatherâs eye while her brother is considered a bit more of a black sheep/failure. imogenâs mother, on the other hand, seemed to favor her brother, something imogen puts out of her mind but has never really forgotten. compounded by their mother being killed when they were young, though, imogen grew up fairly unchecked? so long as she did well in her studies and emulated her fatherâs beliefs she pretty much had free reign over herself, which turned her into a bit of a terror.
in terms of her relationship with her brother, itâs strained to say the least. her father recently disowned him and imogen, of course, went along with her fatherâs wishes and until her brother is able to prove himself to the family, considers him an abject failure, though she /says/ she wants him to prove himself (and perhaps she really does), she really does enjoy throwing the fact that she is âthe perfect childâ in his face whenever she can.
so basically imogen is very, very proud of her heritage and family and truly believes that her talent and power derives from her lineage? sheâs very much of the belief that it is her right to be here and to practice magic because of her ancestors, and that muggleborns are intruding upon the world that her family has helped to built. she sees them as leeches sort of siphoning off the magic and successes that people like her have made for the wizarding world and believes they have no right at all to be here, even if they are technically ~capable of practicing magic. in regards to other purebloods who want to allow muggleborns a place in their world, imogen considers them weak and unworthy of the gift theyâve been given, and in her opinion theyâre like diseased branches infecting a tree---they need to be pruned.
personality wise imogen is calculating, aloof and detatched, lacking in empathy. she simply doesnât see the problems or lives of people she doesnât deem worthy as important and has no problem telling them that OR harming/killing them either to achieve her own ends or just for her own amusement. sheâs been raised to be sadistic and unyielding and that combined with her spellcasting ability makes her quite dangerous. she can be stubborn and almost fanatical when she believes sheâs right (which is most of the time). basically she is someone who is woefully, determinedly ignorant about the reality of things but believes she is correct, and is incredibly powerful and unafraid to force her vision of the world on other people. so, terrible, in a word.
loyalty is a sticking point for imogen. she requires it of her family, her allies, her minions/friends. and at the slightest whiff of defiance or disobedience, she comes down hard to snuff it out.
