“Anytime you’re gonna grow, you’re gonna lose something. You’re losing what you’re hanging onto to keep safe. You’re losing habits that you’re comfortable with, you’re losing familiarity.”
— James Hillman
“Your peace is more important than driving yourself crazy trying to understand why something happened the way it did. Let it go.”
— Mandy Hale
Sometimes it feels like it’ll all end like this
I have fibromyalgia.
I have fibromyalgia.
What is it you ask me? Hell, I’m still finding out so let’s learn together.
fi·bro·my·al·gia ˌfībrōmīˈalj(ē)ə/ noun a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas.
Sounds pretty simple right?
Wrong.
There is over 200 symptoms people with fibro experience. Besides debilitating pain and fatigue, many people are also super sick and nauseous on a daily basis.
Not everyone experiences the same things because fibromyalgia is very complicated which makes it very very hard to diagnose.
There is no cure, and the very few medications there are to help it do not help everyone and/or make people feel worse.
Your doctor is learning about your condition as you do. How can someone help you when they have no idea how to or what exactly causes the fibro?
Some days, you just want to give up. You can’t live another day feeling how you do. You lost your whole life because of something you cannot control or understand or begin to explain.
We’re not alone, no matter how alone we feel.
Invisible illness is real. We may not look sick to you, at all , and that is why it’s called invisible. You can’t see it. You can’t physically see the pain and sickness, which makes it hard for you to believe we’re telling the truth.
“No one can be this sick all the time” Yes. You can. Some may not show it or talk about it. But every day is a fight.
“You don’t look sick, it’s all in your head , just get out more and get active ” I can’t. When I say I can’t. I physically can not. It’s real. Very very real. Between agonizing pain and being beyond exhausted it’ll do us more harm than good if we force our selves.
If you have someone whose suffering from a chronic invisible illness in your life , be there for them. Try to understand and learn with them. It’s scary. And emotional and very lonely. Do some research. Try to know what your loved one is going through. Don’t turn your back
Some people, fibro just comes out of no where. We could be popular and active and always going out. To suddenly not being able to handle littlest tasks or staying up later than 8pm on a weekend.
It is not an excuse. This is real. Help spread knowledge
