A Less Than Heroic Return...

"Sleep? I still have to look at your wound dummy. Then you can sleep!" he exclaimed with a playful jab to the shoulder.

"Besides. I meant wedding plans." Noel was already stretched out gloriously over the bed, so it only took a slight adjustment to move himself to where he could easily examine the other’s injured limb.

Even with the other’s hand tenderly upon his belly he managed to part enough fabric from the torn pant leg to get a better look.

"Well, I see some granulation tissue, nice and pink, but there are a few infected pockets. The wound really went deep. I might have to send you off to one of my surgeon friends and have that reopened. You’ll be in pain for a while but that’s manageable."

He was rambling but the other’s questions brought him out of science mode.

"As soon as we can darling. I’ll have Hana get the boxes."

With a groan Noel rolled over and looked at his leg. He thought it looked alright. Then again, he wasn’t a doctor and considering he did it himself he was rather proud of it. It could be worse, right?

Hopes analysis was proof that it wasn’t as well off as he thought it was. “I thought I had done a pretty good job on my own. To be fair, I had other things to worry about. So long as I could walk, I didn’t care.”

The idea of getting it opened up again was not at all appealing. He had a feeling if he argued Hope would pull out a list of things that could go wrong if it was left alone. “I just got back, you have to be nice to me,” he groaned.

Hana… It took Noel a second to figure that Hana was the lady that led him to the room. It was unusually reassuring that the photos were still somewhere retrievable. Hearing that they were discarded or destroyed might have been too hard to think about just yet.

He turned his eyes away and locked gazes with the dog. For a few moments they stared at each other unblinkingly, then Noel jerked forward, deliberately sending the dog into a defensive barking fit. He never had a problem with dogs, but for some reason, he did not like this one.

"Well that's a fair survival assessment. I just want to make sure the injury doesn't last. Look at Riku, he says that whole mess with his leg started as a simple break and because he was up on his feet so fast afterward and kept injuring himself it got worse," Hope stated a, green glow enveloping his hand as he used a cure spell to soothe the tight skin and lingering pain. There was only so much the magical arts could tend, the medical arts would have to be applied soon.

The thought of putting his precious pictures, memories made tangible, filled him with a quiet joy. He'd only been back in that room for a month, and his furniture and a few small possessions which he requested were out. There were still boxes to go through which he intended on working on once his health was better. And then there was the whole matter of the room itself- technically an infinite dimensional space set within the 'shell' of his old room and the demesions as such were now defined by that room. However he could program the room to take on what ever appearance he wanted.

And he and Noel had that wonderful dream to build that house out on the steppes. The room could be keyed to fit in with the demensions in that house while retaining the aspects of the demesional space that kept him linked with his family. In a sense the house would then have two doors- one to the steppes outside and the other back into his brother's house.

"Well Noel I did want to ask you about that house we were going to build..." he started. Though it was then made apparent that Noel had some ongoing issues with his Fenrir as the large husky began to bark loudly. "Must you antagonize my dog?"

Would You do it for a Noelly Snack?

Fang hummed to herself while she packaged the box of twenty cookies, each shaped like a bone. Next thing to do is during logical hours, go see Hope to bring him a late christmas stocking stuffer of sorts. Noel snacks. The words actually baked into a chocolate chip cookie, to be used at Hope’s discretion, or to eat them.

Her mood was good, thinking these were going to be hilarious when they were shown. Could always bake more if they were gone by the time Noel gets shown them.

"Hope this isn’t a bad time?" she asked, light hearted grin after knocking on the door. "Figured I would bring something by while their fresh."

Tired eyes looked up from his laptop, fingers pinched at the bridge of his nose. A yawn escaped his lips. He was sleepy, but not so enough to actually go to bed.

The door opened, and he saw a familiar figure step into the room.

"No Fang I don't think there ever is a bad time.

Next to him Fenrir thumped his large tail in excitement.

"Well he didn’t get that mouth from me," Hope sighed.

"Considering the tales he’s told me… I’d blame that duck mage and Ansem…"

"Duck mage? Is that a euphemism for something or a nickname?"

"I hope everything’s ok! What did Riku do this time?" he asked settling back down into bed.

"Oh you know Riku… always going off at the mouth… I’d rather not the twins hear that language while they’re in so early a developmental state…" It was a believeable argument, one they have had before, so she was comfortable letting that one loose.

"Well he didn't get that mouth from me," Hope sighed.

"N n no I think I was waking up anyway. What’s all the yelling about?"

"Ehe.. you know… just a marital spat.. you don’t need to worry about it," she smiled. Hope didn’t need to know the distress that the new developments were causing. He had enough to deal with as it was.

"I hope everything's ok! What did Riku do this time?" he asked settling back down into bed.

Hope wakes up to hear muffled yelling in the other room.

"Wh wha what’s going on?"

"Hope?? I’m sorry, did we wake you?"

"N n no I think I was waking up anyway. What's all the yelling about?"

A Less Than Heroic Return...

"Good," Hope sighed as he gazed at his other half lovingly. A startled squeak issued from his lips as Noel leaned in for a kiss. Not that he minded anyway. He just let his back melt into the pillows, and Noel onto him, feeling the full weight of his lover upon him as he let his lips part.

This. This is what he had been waiting for. The feel of rough hands holding him softly yet firmly in their grasp, the slip of a tongue against his teeth.

A loud, pleased sigh and a moan followed soon after as he completely relaxed and let Noel have his moment.

Oh yes, there were many scientific explanations running through his mind that explained why and how he felt the way he did, but for now he was happy just to say that he was totally, utterly infatuated and with in the moment.

A purr from his throat rose as they finished. He was pleasantly breathless.

"I can’t wait for the next step," he sighed contently.

Noel rolled over and stretched out on the bed. “You mean the part where I fall asleep now?” He laughed, feeling his body relax. It still smelled a little like a dog but he was slowly getting used to it. The smell, not the dog.

He turned onto his side and wrapped his arm around Hope. It still felt a little strange to be somewhere that wasn’t his makeshift hovel in the wilderness. People were able to adapt, but Noel was almost an expert at doing so quickly. Anything could become the norm and coming back felt like an adjustment all over again, especially in a world like Academia, such a far cry from hunting and scavenging. This time, he had more help and it was much easier when you were already smitten with love.

Hopes skin was so warm from being under the blankets, Noel snaked his hand under his shirt and rested it on Hopes belly. “You’re so warm… So… when are we gonna hang those pictures back up?”

A Less Than Heroic Return...

At his words Noel’s attention was immediately at the back of his leg. Through torn fabric Hope could see the nasty track of the beasts fang. Sure it had healed up nicely with healthy tissue but the former Director’s trained eyes could see a distinct depression that meant underlying muscle damage, and it especially concerned Hope how close the wound was to vital tendon structure. Though with Noel’s attention back on him Hope had little time to voice his medical opinion.

His own hand was taken up in the hunter’s, digits intertwining playfully. A smile rose on his lips followed by a pleased giggle as he listened to the words from Noel’s mouth. “I will,” he responded twirling the ring on his finger a few times before he reached for the other. “And will you, Noel Kreiss, always promise to take me with you from now on?” With that and a bit of mischievous glint in his eyes he slid the last ring onto the finger of his fiance.

It was hard not to smile ecstatically as Noel received his own ring. “I will. I also promise no canyons, not anymore.” He stared at the ring for a little bit watching it catch the light.

He whispered slowly, “This feels… surreal. As hard as I tried out there I-I just never knew if I would make it back. I never knew if this… would happen for us.” His eyes once again looked around the seemingly unfamiliar room, “It feels weird. Like a new place, a new life… like a dream.” He closed his eyes, hoping it wasn’t a dream.

"Hope, I won’t leave again. Not without you." The feeling was overwhelming. How close he was to loosing everything. His life in the wild, his future with Hope and he’d never know how much longer Hope would have held on if he hadn’t come back yet. For a second, he remembered the first moment he ever saw Hope. Noel remembered Serah standing next to him, the small smile on his face as he explained how he was able to subdue the Aloeidai. Most of what he said was long gone from memory, but the image would forever be in his head. Now they were here.

Noel reached forward and stole a kiss from Hope. As their lips touched, he felt his whole body sigh in relief. He was home.
