Hoppin Frog - Hoppin to Heaven IPA.
I'm mad at this beer. It exploded when I opened it (seriously, beer, I just walked you from the fridge to the counter with minimal movement) so I only got to have about half of this pint plus 6 oz bottle. That said, it was pretty tasty. I thought it was crisp and light, a nice warmer weather beer (or, in my case, a crazy hot apartment) and kind of tangy which was unexpected but still delicious.
400 Pound Monkey by The Left Handed Brewing Company is a pretty solid IPA. It's not too hoppy, which is nice, but it still has a nice weighty feel to it. Definitely a Fall/Winter beer, not a warmer weather one. I'm not sure what else to say about it, it's just a really nice beer. Good job, beer guys!
My husband (JB, see below for his review) picked this up so my review isn't going to be that in depth (read: overly long and horribly written). In short, this beer smells and tastes like a dive bar. And I absolutely do not mean for this to be taken as a negative. If you have a favorite dive, you know exactly what I mean. It smells like that stale, sticky floor you associate with walking into your spot early on a Saturday evening. It tastes like unclean taps, flowing with cheap $2 drafts but you 100% do not care at all about that because of how great the jukebox is. I know that, according to the Internet, it's supposed to be an amazing ale with complex notes and blah blah blah, but all I taste is an inordinate number of hours spent at dark dives with good friends and cheap beers.
JB's Take: Beer is pretty stupid, especially because it isn't whiskey. Most beers also tend to make me sick to my stomach. This beer was okay, for not being whiskey. It also didn't make me sick to my stomach.

Welcome to this blog I decided to start halfway through a bottle of Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA. I'm officially obsessed with Eagle Provisions in South Slope (a neighborhood of Brooklyn, for everyone who doesn't live here who somehow managed to find this blog) and decided to go all Julie & Julia on it and work my way through the insane beer selection at this store. I will probably never drink everything there since it's an expensive hobby (seriously, I saw a tiny 8oz bottle of some rare beer from the other side of the planet that cost almost $15) and I don't want to become a raging alcoholic. But I do want to remember what I liked and what I hated and what to recommend to friends, so here's this experiment. Bear with me through learning how to write reviews and remember to blog about beers I drink while I'm drinking them instead of the next day when they all just taste like regret and that bacon egg and cheese sandwich I just ate and hopefully we'll all end up a little bit smarter about our choice poisons.

PS: Bonus review - Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is literally the worst thing I've ever had to drink and that includes the Pepsi/Milk/Orange Juice concoction I drank on a dare for $5 at a birthday party when I was 10.
This is a pretty intimidating beer to start this blog with, but here we go anyway.
I'm already a fan of the 60 and 90 minute IPAs from Dogfish head (side note: I opted to NOT spend $45 on a 4 pack of the 120 today because, well, it was $45 and I was already $40 in the hole with the rest of my haul so...). I figured I'd enjoy the 75 minute IPA, which I didn't know existed until today. After waiting what felt like decades (it was maybe 2 hours) to get it cold enough and totally messing up my pour (seriously, more than 3/4 of the glass was heady foam. also, yeah i poured it in a glass. i'm a lady, you guys.) I finally got to drink this magical giant bottle of goodness. The verdict, as expected, I like it. It's not as powerful and bold as the 90 minute but it still packs a nice punch for a chilly November afternoon spent watching two separate Ohio-centric football games. I assume it's supposed to have some maple notes since it's made with maple syrup, but I'm not tasting it. It does smell a bit of maple so it's definitely present but it's not coming through in the taste.
My only issue with it is that it leaves this weird coated-feeling in my mouth after I've had a couple mouthfuls (that's what she said). I'm not sure if I'll pick this up again (especially since I have the option to just buy the 90 minute which is slowly taking over as my favorite beer) but it was definitely worth checking out for someone who only just realized that IPAs are their favorite style of beer (i.e. me) and since it is, apparently, an occasional rarity and hard to come by.
