What is your personal headcanons for the "L Lawliet & Kyousuke Higuchi" relationship, which I find very adorable!
I had never expected anyone to inquire about this ship, I am so happy >w<
Initially Higuchi thought of L as a person he could look down on - he quickly has to find L is both richer and more successful.
Still, Higuchi never actually finds out that L is L. He knows him as someone who goes by various aliases, has a butler, a fortune to spend, and clearly does some important work, but the actual nature of this work is forever hidden from Higuchi.
By now Higuchi’s feelings about L are constantly stuck between envy and the feeling of wanting to be entitled to L’s respect or more.
In an attempt to impress, Higuchi takes L to fancy restaurants that L will inevitably embarrass him at. In fact, L only follows the dress-code on a single one of those occasions.
Sometimes L solves cases from the backseat of one of Higuchi’s 6 cars. In the front, Higuchi is obliviously debating business on his car phone, wondering why L wouldn’t just take the front seat as usual. However, he gave up on seriously questioning L’s quirks long ago though.
L shows up unannounced at Yotsuba Group’s building all the time. Everyone has kind of accepted him as Higuchi’s weird acquaintance whom he can’t keep in check. Higuchi pretends he doesn’t know him for a solid month, before he realizes the act is becoming a mockery.
L finds Higuchi’s ‘banal and vulgar personality,’ as he’d put it, relaxing to be around. ‘Endearingly predictable’ is how he calls it in his head.He likes Higuchi a similar way how a pat owner will feel their pet is more fun than all other pets, despite the pet’s common personality.
Higuchi is mad at L most of the time, but they often (certainly not always) have surprisingly decent evenings as long as they’re not in public.
Higuchi is yearning for a chance to fight L in Kendo - if L has little to not experience all the better. …he’s bitter and wants to win.
At one of Higuchi’s birthdays L feels generous and gifts him a 7th expensive car. Higuchi wants to be mad at the casual display of wealth, but he just honestly kind of loves the car L picked. That makes him mad, too, but in a more subdued way as he contentedly examines his gift.
Obviously all of this is in some far-off universe in which Kira is never a thing. L/Higuchi is always kind of a crackship, but a beautiful one.
