“has anybody ever really loved me?” and more self destructive thoughts: an autobiography by me
denoucments:
He should stop. Neal is aware of that. Not only is this messy in a way Neal isn’t sure he still wants to deal with long term but also, he should be respectful. To Blaine’s girlfriend and the big fat lie in the room. But Neal Caffrey has never been one for doing what he should. No, usually, Neal does what he wants. Which, in this moment, is to step yet a little closer. Reaching out, his thumb and forefinger find the lapel of the blazer Blaine’s wearing, tugging on it slightly.
“Do you want me to let you go to your girlfriend?” he asks, still rubbing his thumb against the fabric of Blaine’s label. Waiting. Challenging. Never moving his gaze off his face.
Blaine can’t bring himself to look away or try to even wedge himself out of the small space between Neal and the wall. The flame in his chest tells him he shouldn’t, even if logically he knows he should. God, he really should but the way Neal is looking at him. Why does it make him want to stay more than anything else? “I--” He opens his mouth to speak, but only a sound comes out. He’s so confused. He feels like this is a position he should be in. It feels right for once in comparison to anything or anyone else. Blaine wants to say ‘I don’t know’, and there’s fear that captures his eyes, unsure and unsettled. Yet they yearn to know how it feels to have Neal’s fingers touch his neck and not his blazer, to know what his eyes look like when they pierce right through him. He almost needs it more than he wants. He has so many questions. Too many. “I have a feeling that’s not going to stop you,” he tests.
[ continued from here. @denoucments ]
Blaine’s blush deepens as Neal moves further into his personal space -- not that there ever was anything called 'personal space' with the man. But Neal’s presence was commanding on it’s own; it was the kind to fill your senses and make your skin buzz with whatever he wanted you to feel. Not that Blaine would ever admit that it was a good thing, but it was attractive in some aspects.
In the general way of course. Attractive can be used as a general term. Blaine liked girls plain and simple. He doesn’t miss the way Neal’s eyes flicker to his lips, and something sparks in him like a match finally catching flame. It’s different than the way he feels about his girlfriend; it’s stronger and less like he’s skating through passion.
“D-Do we now, Mr. Caffrey,” he sputters. He curses himself for stuttering. Blaine does his best to straighten himself out, standing a little straighter and ignoring the redness on his cheeks. “Well, I’m sure a man like yourself is.... quite popular. I have a girlfriend myself.”
❝ I like girls. ❞ / closeted
It was almost comical how entirely unconvincing this was. Between the high blush on his cheeks and the fact that he all but stumbled over those simple words, it was save to say that Blaine might have been even worse at lying than at being any version of straight. And maybe he should leave well enough alone, should back off and pretend to believe this lie.
But Neal had never been very good at stepping back at the right moment. So he stayed where he was, crowding his space just a bit too much. “Oh yeah?” he questioned, hands in the pockets of his slacks as a smirk stretched wide over his face. Eyes flickering towards Blaine’s lips briefly and exclusively for the reaction. “So do I. We have so much in common.”
