“Have you ever communicated with a spirit, Techno?”
Techno gave Wilbur a look, which did nothing to deter the eagerness on his friend’s face. The question was clearly sincere.
“No,” he said dryly. “Considerin’ spirits don’t exist, I’ve definitely never spoken to one.”
Wilbur grinned. “Oh, don’t tell me you’re a skeptic.”
“I’m a rationalist, Wilbur. And there’s nothin’ rational about believin’ in Casper the friendly ghost.”
“You’re probably right,” Wilbur said, but he went digging for something in his backpack. “Casper seems like a prick, anyway.”
To be honest, Techno wasn’t quite sure why Wilbur had dragged him out to the abandoned mansion, especially this late at night. The house, enormous and only recently emptied, stood a few blocks away from Techno’s house, and he had been there a few times - for typical high school bullshit, parties and desperate attempts to escape overbearing parents - but Wilbur seemed to have been spending more time here alone, recently, passing the time in the large house, the empty halls, the rooms filled with miscellaneous pieces of furniture nobody had deemed valuable enough to save.
Tonight, Wilbur had texted Techno and insisted on his presence at the mansion. They were sitting in the dining room, which was empty save for the table and chairs and a glittering chandelier hanging over their heads. There was no electricity, so Wilbur had lit a few candles that cast flickering light over their surroundings. And he was pulling out a Ouija board.
“Ever used one of these?” he asked, his eyes glinting in the candlelight.
Techno didn’t respond. He felt... nervous. Obviously, he didn’t believe in supernatural shit. But that didn’t mean he wanted to poke it with a stick.
“I’ll take that as a no?” Wilbur said.
“Are you just tryin’ to fuck with me?” Techno asked, crossing his arms.
“Does that sound like something I would do?” Wilbur said sweetly.
“....that’s gonna be a yes.”
“Just do this with me, Techno, come on. Humor me. I want to see if it works, but I can’t do it alone.” He seemed serious. And Techno was really bad at saying no when Wilbur pressed him like this.
He sighed and shifted forward, peering at the board. “Fine.”
Techno and Wilbur placed their hands lightly on the planchette. Techno resisted an eye roll as he saw Wilbur close his eyes, tilting his head back like he was really summoning something. Wilbur always had to be so dramatic.
“If there are any spirits in the room with us tonight,” Wilbur said solemnly, “we invite you to speak with us. We mean you no harm.”
There was deathly silence; not even a draft through the windows. Techno wondered if he was supposed to be closing his eyes, too, when suddenly the planchette jerked forward, curving an arc over the wooden board.

“Wilbur,” Techno said warningly, but Wilbur opened his eyes wide and shook his head as the planchette said L.
“Techno, it’s not me, I swear,” Wilbur said, and the earnestness in his voice sent a real chill down Techno’s spine as the board finished:

Techno furrowed his brow. Then he glared at Wilbur. “’Ello’. Really? Ello? The Ouija board has an accent?”
“Maybe the spirit does,” Wilbur said breathlessly, and before Techno could call bullshit, he was speaking loudly again: “thank you for speaking with us, spirit. Tell us, what is your name?”
The planchette moved again, swiftly, and Techno had to focus to keep track of what the board was saying.

“Holy shit,” Wilbur said slowly. “It’s the ghost of Frank Sinatra.”
“Frank Sinatra isn’t Briti - oh my god. You are so stupid, Wilbur,” Techno said, and removed his hands from the planchette.
Immediately, there was a sort of screaming in his ears, and the wind rushed into the room like a tornado, sending the chandelier tilting dangerously to the side, its glass shards rattling against one another dangerously. Techno stumbled a few feet back, shocked, as Wilbur shouted, “you’ve made Frank Sinatra angry! Put your hand back on the damn thing!”
Panicked, Techno lunged for the board again. The instant his hand met the planchette, the wind died down.
“Frank,” Wilbur said, as Techno panted for breath, “we mean you no harm. What do you want us to do? What will make you happy?”
The planchette seemed to consider it for a minute before moving.

“What?” Techno spluttered. “No. Isn’t he - isn’t he some old jazz musician? You - you’re supposed to be the one who knows music here, Wilbur!”
The wind started to pick up again, like Frank was getting angry, and Techno cowered closer to the table.
“Calm down,” Wilbur said, though he looked like he might be biting back a scream. “Frank, we don’t know any songs of yours.”

“I’ll be fine,” Wilbur hissed. “Just go!”
And, not knowing what else to do, Techno lurched to his feet, starting to back up slowly. He cleared his throat and scrambled desperately for the lyrics, then started singing in a monotone: “uhm - eh - this hit, that ice cold, Michelle Pfeiffer, that white gold...”
A ghostly chill blew past him.
Techno had never felt stupider in his life as he kept going, “This one for them hood girls, them good girls, straight masterpieces...”
“Gooood joooooob,” a ghostly voice said from directly behind him, and Techno jumped, yelping as he turned around and bolted straight for the door, not stopping to look behind him, not stopping at all until he had reached his bed, slamming and locking the door behind him and diving under his covers, shaking in terror, hoping Wilbur had managed to escape the house.
He hadn’t. He was still inside, properly laughing his ass off in the sitting room with the ghostly figure of a sixteen-year-old boy, who absolutely cackled with glee, doing a backflip mid-air. He was sort of transparent and greenish-looking, and he grinned as Wilbur gasped for air.
“Frank Sinatra,” Wilbur managed, and just the name alone sent him into another fit of giggles.
“It was so stupid,” Tommy said, covering his face with one hand. “But it was funny, though.”
“Oh, my god. And the Uptown Funk. His frightened little monotone.”
“Was that a bit too much?”
“No, it was perfect,” Wilbur said, going to get the footage he’d recorded of the supernatural incident. “I’m going to use this footage as blackmail for the rest of Techno’s life.”
Tommy grinned and did a little spin in the air, coming down to rest on one of the moth-eaten armchairs, his lanky limbs sprawling over the armrests. “Well, then. Who’s our next victim?”
“Well, Tommy. You are going to love my friend, Phil...”

why fuchsia frankensteins’s dodgebolt strategy was absolutely GENIUS: an essay
okay, i know fuchsia frankensteins’s dodgebolt strategy wasn’t entirely new, but there are many things about it that just makes it so perfect for their team.
first thing’s first, i just want to contradict hbomb’s comments about this dodgebolt strategy. he himself believes that since they got there together as a team, then they should all be able to shoot because it would somewhat be a celebration of their cooperation and teamwork. while i don’t necessarily oppose his statements, i do think that fuchsia’s “funnel dream first” plan was still able to promote the teamwork fuchsia upheld during the event. in fact, i fully believe their strategy embraced their teamwork because of the complexity of their strategy and how each member of fuchsia had a role during dodgebolt that helped them sweep through all three games.
all members being able to shoot shouldn’t be the main idea to go to when wanting to show a team’s cooperation and unity.
fuchsia’s strategy wasn’t merely to establish a hierarchy and simply stick to that plan– i fully believe there was some unspoken yet brilliant trickery they pulled off that helped boost their win. like, a lot of trickery. granted, they may have been doing this unintentionally, but everything just lines up so perfectly that i really wanna talk about the genius behind it.
firstly, let’s talk about dream. it was obvious he was going to be the main shooter when it came to the game, and i really want to commend dream for being able to create this strategy in the first place. to me, dream wasn’t too sneaky when it came to his role since he was simply the main archer and he delivered whenever he needed to shoot someone off. what was amazing, however, is how he was able to divert everyone’s attention to himself so that the opposing team would underestimate his teammates’ accuracy when it comes to shooting as well.
the dream ace during the first round completely made them target and hyperfocus on dream. with the fact that hbomb wasn’t expecting a hierarchy of archery when it came to fuchsia, and with the hyperfocusing on dream, they completely undervalued the other players of fuchsia, especially george.
and speaking of george, holy fucking shit gogy. i’m going to talk about george and sapnap’s dodgebolt roles because honestly, it was real fucking genius.
what’s interesting about george is how underestimated he is when it comes to pvp, especially archery, and i think sapnap and dream’s infamous reputation when it comes to pvp paved the way for george to be their secret weapon all along.
there was only one game in mcc 11 that showcased their pvp skills, and that would be sky battle. during sky battle, especially in the first and third rounds, sapnap and dream absolutely dominated the kills. witnessing this, the blue black cats (who i will be referring to as bbc from now on) were led to believe that george wasn’t as good in pvp as the other two.
but all sky battle did was made sapnap fool bbc into thinking that he should be the priority when it comes to dodgebolt, leaving george to sweep them in the end.
you can see in bbc’s point of view that sapnap was always their priority after they’ve taken out dream. i know sapnap was doing this unintentionally, but the fact that he kept picking up the arrows before the george sweeps happened further added onto the mind games they were playing with bbc. with sapnap picking up the arrows, it gave them the impression that he was the second sharpest shooter in fuchsia, and him passing the arrows to dream was only him being “scared”.
sapnap’s façade in dodgebolt completely paved the way for george to slowly reveal he was fuchsia’s secret weapon all along.
you see it happen during the game. round 2 was the best place to see how bbc completely prioritized sapnap after dream’s out. sapnap took the attention away from george so when the opportunity comes, george can strike the opposing team dead.
(i just loved how they believed george was the shield and sapnap was the threat when in reality, it was the other way around.)
now, let’s move onto karl, who also played a pivotal role in dodgebolt. i know we like to joke about karl carrying when he was shot first three times, but let me tell you that karl being believed to be the “easiest target” was the best plan fuchsia had into gathering arrows at the beginning so dream can take out the best players when it was their time to shoot. the trickery was absolutely genius– bbc thinks they’re taking out an easy target, but fuchsia takes this as an opportunity to harvest arrows to take hbomb out first during every round.
karl was 100% a valuable asset to fuchsia, and was important because, again, he was the reason dream could easily take out most of the team during the first few shots– that’s how hbomb was taken out in round 2 and 3. karl walked so the rest of the dream team can run, basically.
(kudos to @sapnapss for mentioning this ^^ !)
with the roles explained, i’m just gonna commend other things fuchsia did that helped boost their winning streak.
firstly, big kudos to dream for making up the strategy beforehand so there was no confusion when it came to dodgebolt. compare mcc 8’s dodgebolt and mcc 11’s dodgebolt and you can see how his team was less stressed and more decisive when it came to executing plans and shots.
secondly, kudos to george and dream humbling their team whenever they win because they didn’t want a repeat of what happened during mcc 9. it really helped calm their nerves and be less complacent and more focused.
thirdly, i’m quite amazed at how they adapted to new plans when they realized how they died in previous rounds. when shelby took out most of their team in round 2, dream made it a plan to shoot shelby after he takes out hbomb. when they realized the “shoot left shoot right” strategy didn’t work for sapnap and george, they didn’t try implementing it during the last shots of round 3.
and lastly, i completely loved the “don’t get the arrow in the middle strategy”. it was easy to see why dream opposed taking the arrow when sapnap got in round two– it made the other team aim at the better players of fuchsia more. by not taking the arrow, it leaves bbc at a loss of who to aim for first, so they do the second best thing they can do which is target karl. and we know why targeting karl was important for fuchsia’s “funnelling dream” strategy. all of what dream told them to do was deliberate and part of the fucking plan.
in summary, fuchsia’s dodgebolt plan wasn’t just a “dream carry” strategy, it was full of deliberate trickery and detailed planning that gave each person of fuchsia an important role that brought them their victory. it’s no wonder that fuchsia was the first team in mcc history with a 3-0 win for dodgebolt.
I have until the end of December to find a new place to live. If not, I’ll be out on the streets, because they won’t let me stay, and I have nowhere else to go as of now.

jesus christ. it is so very obvious that karl and sapnap are trying to be the next dnf and it’s just... not working. they’re pushing it so much to the point where it’s fucking annoying and beyond over the top. sapnap claims to be “shy” yet, from what i’ve observed, his behaviour around another person he doesn’t share much respect for is comparable to a hippo in a china shop. subtlety is key king, but of course a rowdy immature straight white boy would know none of it
I think in this situation Karl is analogous to Dream. He’s aware of shipping culture and he’s trying to build his brand. In Karl’s case, he’s going to for the soft eboy who’s on alt tiktok, so yeah... he’s going to throw his bussy at every man in a 100 mile radius and see who takes the bait. Hbomb, Eret, Dream, even Skeppy briefly looked at the bait before saying “Yeah... maybe next time sport.” And now Quackity, after finally realizing George is just not into him, is noticing that Karl has been fishing this whole time. I mean you have to respect the hustle. It’s not as genuine because Karl... chose an interesting partner in his pandering efforts.
Sapnap is not analogous to George. He has none of the grace, the charm, the Energy. George responds to flirting with gay little scoffs of judgement, unhinged giggles, or by going “Ooh Dream~” and to contrast, Sapnap gets in shouting matches over “who’s the man,” belittles people, uses gross out humor, acts possessive in a skeevy way, the list goes on. He’s immature and he wouldn’t know what gay culture is if it bit his dick off.
Sapnap knows just enough to attempt to imitate the George role, the hapless friend who’s surprisingly into the ship bait and often turns the tables in flustering the other partner, but he doesn’t know enough to be good at it. So Sapnap claims to by shy and newvous... right after he screamed at Bad and loudly belched into his mic. Like Sapnap was so threatened by not explicitly being “the man” that he had to have a long and heated argument with Karl about it, wearing Karl down until he didn’t feel like fighting it anymore. No Sapnap is the one hitting on Karl more often than not. He’s the one taking the lead, being the aggressor, borderline sexually harassing Karl but that’s neither here nor there ahem.
And Sapnap is bad at the Dream role too! Dream knows how to successfully pull off both flirty kind of cocky casanova who enjoys flustering his little catboy waifu, but Dream can also pull off shy pining romantic who’s afraid the imposingly beautiful man he’s crushing on would reject him. Dream has the range. Sapnap does not.
You’re right, subtlety is king, and Dream and George know when to amplify the psionic blasts, but they know when to conserve power and be lowkey. DnF has become so entrenched that they often don’t have to do any work! They just have to exist and their friends will make DnF jokes and they respond appropriately (either by laughing or by going “wHAT!” in Dream’s case and by doing aforementioned gay scoff of judgement followed by a giggle or two in George’s case).
And also, Dream and George are never too explicit. George will unleash his psychic attacks but at worst they’ll allude to the idea of (kinky) sex like “Untie me Dream~” and we’ve seen George use more explicit psychic attacks with other people (”Bend over Fundy”). And Dream will make explicit sex jokes about Bad and Skeppy, but not George. We’ll never have George join TeamSpeak to belch and then scream “DREAM MY HOLE IS SO WET FOR YOU!!!” We’ll never have Dream argue with George about who tops or say “I’ll shove six fingers in your butthole!” to win an argument.
I’ll say it again, you’re absolutely correct. Subtlety is King. Long may he reign.
