Getting ready to go is.. not that simple. As I’ve already mentioned I’m feeling pretty sad about not being able to take the cats, let alone the people I’m leaving behind. I’m finding that difficult to think about, writing about it - I wouldn’t know where to begin. I suppose it also makes me wander...
Today my flatmate and I decided to take a step into the world of home brewing. Not sure how wise this was of me, as I will have left for New Earth before the batch is ready. I wonder if New Earth will have alcohol, or if it will be a sober society? From my experience of bar and nightclub work, I can say that alcohol has it's pros and cons. It can affect different people in different ways, but I still feel that it would be sorely missed. Not sure how I'd deal with a tea total world.
Well time has passed since my last blog update; time which has been spent contemplating…a little self exploration. The GFO announcement really caught me by surprise. After my initially scepticism I began assessing what I have and what I could gain or lose by migrating to New Earth.
The…
Hmmm.. I’m so excited about going, I hadn’t thought so much about what I’ll be loosing!
Everything I’ve got I’ve worked hard for to achieve in my life and built up by myself. My knowledge as a florist is probably not going to come in as being that useful?? Maybe if I had more of a knowledge about herbs or plants more practical uses.
What is my new role on this New Earth going to be???
…. hmmm suggested answers on a postcard please (or here on this blog would also be fine).
I guess actually there’s quite a lot of things I haven’t thought about, where am I gonna live / what am I gonna eat uh! Oh no I love food what if I have to eat dehydrated ice cream for the next 5 years.. ok that wouldn’t be so bad.
I don't know marthasgalaxy... ice cream (dehydrated or not) ever day is living the dream.
We're going to need some music for the trip.
I've decided that you can't cover such a huge distance without some traveling music. All suggestions for the Old Earth to New Earth playlist are welcome. What are you're all time favourite songs? I want a good mix of everything Old Earth has to offer.
I will be adding to this playlist throughout the run up to my departure. http://grooveshark.com/playlist/New+Earth/89190834
Give Talent a Second Chance
A couple of days ago I received some pretty big news. The Galactic Futures Organisation announced their intention to begin a mass migration to New Earth. Like many of you, I too was skeptical, but it’s not April 1st and upon receiving conformation of my place in the first of these expeditions, it’s becoming more and more real every day. Those of you, who know me, know that I am a huge fan of the entertainment industry. I love music, movies and TV (probably to an unhealthy degree), and it’s a rare day that I don’t indulge in at least one of these forms of media.
This has got me thinking about what New Earth could (and would) be like. Who would be the stars of this new civilization? Who would be the Brad Pitt’s, the Natalie Portman’s, the David Bowie’s, the Pixies, the Smiths, the Tom Waits’… the Rihanna’s? Would we allow the Rihanna’s to gain such a high level of fame, or only those with genuine talent?
I know that this is fairly subjective and that you may not agree with my idea of talent. But imagine a World of entertainment, where the fat is trimmed and you only receive the best of the best. This is our chance to start from scratch and I hope we avoid the mistakes we made first time around.
Breaking news from the GFO HQ. This is so exciting I really hope I get my tickets in time for migration. It would be such a great opportunity for me and my family, a new start, a new world, a new future.
I could be truly influential with my design work, I could be part of shaping the future and in turn history, all from being a designer. I mean that is like my childhood dream to design the future.
When I get there I can do so much to avoid the new earth becoming the same as the one in which we currently inhabit. My experience and research into communication for a start gives me great understanding of what we should avoid as a new society. I could help ensure a new planet doesn’t end up only being able to talk via an interface, I could potentially path the way to take society back to the art of conversing face to face in real time.
I know I know this all sounds a bit contradictory when I am telling whoever is reading this via a computer. But technology does have its place and if all goes well and my tickets arrive then I will hopefully play a part ensuring technology is not used to the detriment of our culture.
I honestly have butterflies at the thought I really want to get excited but until I have the tickets for me and the family in my hand I don’t think I can do anything.
Great read on a fellow new earther. Some inspiring ideas for the building and future of our new home. #leavingplanetearth
I’ve seen some beautiful scenery in the last few days. I can’t help but consider how New Earth would look.
Why not?
I don’t want to do things. I want to not do things.
