Venice Beach, California - LA
The first stop on our travels was to LA to see my brother, his wife and of course my unforgettable niece and nephew. Taking the time out of their busy schedules, Alex put together a simple but delicious meal that brought us all together. Cooking together in their stunning Bo-ho/art deco style home allowed me to learn a truly memorable recipe from 3 simple ingredients and a blow torch. Curious?
Alex’s bombshell blueberries: blueberries, lime (juice and zest), sugar
Simply place blueberries in a bowl with zest of half a lime, the juice of one and a few teaspoons of sugar to coat. Mix and flame with the blow torch. This doesn’t sound like much but try it and find out. The lime gives the blueberries a tanginess that is almost balanced by the sugar, but when torched the sugar crystallizes and makes the best tasting blueberries ever. Enjoy and tell me what you think!
