4. If the car pulls up to you run in the opposite direction.
5. Walk with your keys in your hands and keep a key between each finger
6. If they put you in the trunk kick out the headlights
7. If you get lost find a woman with a child. Never ask a man for help (this one was drilled)
That scream fire piece of advice is literally life saving
8. Watch your shadows and reflections, especially if someone is walking behind you. A split second notice is better than none and will help you.
Yes this last one really saves lives y'all I do it all the time
girls have to learn to view the world like international intelligence agents just to be safe walking down the street. smh.

(I’m an enby, but, frankly, this is helpful for anyone.)
- always tell someone where youre at and an approx time when youll be back
Add text replacement words in your phone if possible. Something short and memorable that you can send quickly to people in moments of emergencies.
E.g.
If you are an adult who identifies with the concept of Gifted Kid Syndrome and:
You have an unusually intense reaction to the concept of rejection, whether personal, professional, or academic
You have consistent trouble meeting deadlines
You have big dreams and ambitions that are completely achievable, but you consistently can’t take steps toward achieving them and you don’t know why
You procrastinate, like a lot
You like video games, like a lot
You switch seemingly at random between binge watching your favorite shows for absurd lengths of time or not being able to sit down and focus on them unless you’re doing something else at the same time
You cannot for the life of you keep your living area clean and organized
You struggle with substance dependencies, whether with alcohol, tobacco, weed, harder drugs, or even just caffeine
You struggle with texting/calling/emailing back, even for people you care about deeply and/or even for important deadlines
Please, please, please consider seeking out an ADHD evaluation.
I’m not a psychiatrist or any kind of a medical professional, but personally I can’t help but notice how many elements of what I was perceiving as personal failures before my diagnosis stem directly from my executive dysfunction. Meds and an adequate support system can make a world of difference!
Just some advice from your friendly neighborhood nonbinary-mom-friend blogger!
...these are all seriously signs of ADHD?
You’re kidding
Not even a little bit.
A good book for this is Driven to Distraction. It’s made a HUGE difference in the lives of my friends that have adult ADHD and ADD.
Most of my friends who are smart but seem to be unable to get anywhere in life all seem to have un-diagnosed ADD/ADHD or Aspergers. If you’re in your 30′s-50′s, we were all a little under diagnosed and those that did get diagnoses were just given a one size fits all approach. Do your self a favor. Check the book out at your local library and see if it sounds helpful to you. <3

Can we all just appreciate how Beauty Bakery is a small, indie brand yet they’re making such a difference and a STATEMENT with their products in the beauty industry? They didn’t follow the regular shade range categorization(lightest to darkest), they changed it and went dark to light. Such a simple change, but it never seizes to amaze me how something like that can make people feel included. It’s 2018 and makeup brands still continue to come out with 15 shades of beige. You can have 15 shades while being inclusive. 5 shades light, 5 medium and 5 dark-deep. If small brands can do it then big brands can do it too.
Ex: Tarte came out with 20 light-medium shades(or something like that) and 3 medium-dark ones. People with darker complexions should NOT have to wait, either come out with 30 inclusive shades or don’t even try.
Thank you Beauty Bakery for making a difference.
One of the major issues with the “That could’ve been my mother, sister, daughter” response to women’s murder and abuse is that it relies on respectability politics. No one has that response to sex workers, trans + gay women, homeless women, etc. when they are killed; despite actually being the most common targets. There are women you probably wouldn’t consider family, they deserve life, too.
That is why it’s necessary to assert women’s right to live solely because they are human, not because of their hypothetical relation to you. This is emphasized for black women.

OH MY GOD!!!!
military worship in this country is out of fucking control
excuse me?
military worship in this country is out of fucking control
Yea you’re right, we shouldn’t honor the people willing to risk their life to save ours and defend our country … oh
Military worship in this country is out of fucking control
I’m in the military and yes it’s out of fucking control. Most of the people I know in the military feel the same way. You civilians need to calm the fuck down. Most of us joined in our teens or early twenties. For a lot of us it was because we needed a job, and we didn’t see any other options, and this job has good benefits, especially for an uneducated young person in America. We get healthcare and education!! That’s some tempting fucking fruit. But this is a JOB. Some people in the military become heroes, that’s true. Jumping on grenades, defusing bombs, dragging a wounded person from the middle of a firefight. They usually end up dead in the process. Those people deserve respect, in my opinion. They give their lives for their friends, no matter whether or not you agree with the policies that put them there in the first place. But a lot of people in America reflexively claim that everyone in the military is a hero, full stop. This isn’t true and it lets people look the other way when something is actually wrong in the military, because it’s the military, they’re heroes, they can do no wrong.
We’re doing a job, and a lot of us are never really put in harm’s way. I work in a climate controlled lab for 8 hours a day, for instance. Really grueling. Such a hero. This fawning lip service of an infallible military doesn’t do us any good. I know people who have bought into it, who have heard so many people tell them that they’re heroes that they actually believe it, and they are the stupid and dangerous ones. Joining the military does not make you a hero, and calling us heroes might make you feel all warm and fluffy and red white and blue but it doesn’t do anything for the people that end up on the streets with PTSD or come home with life-changing injuries or in a box. We’re human beings, not some concept that you can just mindlessly adulate and then feel better about yourself.

oh boy just in time for the 4th of July
Speaking as a disabled veteran: it’d be one thing if the fucking hero worship MEANT ANYTHING. But it’s a bunch of empty loud words about how Brave and Noble everyone in the military is (nah some of us are assholes) and then when it comes to, oh I don’t know, paying a soldier enough to feed their family without food stamps, or giving disability compensation without a NIGHTMARE fight with the country that claims to “care” so much. Plus the whole “sending us off to kill other people to make rich men richer while innocents die for it” thing. It’s not “defending freedom” to shove our troops into everyone’s business in countries that happen to have oil and such Military worship isn’t only annoying, it’s a hollow lie that’s basically dangerous to everyone
Thin people actually think they’ve ‘earned’ their bodies. They honestly believe their thinness is a product of their own hard work, restriction of food and exercise. People who were just born thin, eat a normal diet and go to yoga twice a week think that that’s what it takes, and cannot fathom that there are fat people out there doing the same amount of exercise or more, eating the same or (in a lot of cases) a more restrictive diet and yet remain fat.
When offered a brownie thin person would joke “oh you want me to get fat” (let’s not even touch on how they think it’s somehow bad), but they honestly think eating a brownie or liking sweets and having them every day would actually make them fat.
Like, honey, you’re a size two. You can live off brownies for a month and not move and you’ll gain at best a couple of pounds. That’s how your body works. Some bodies work like that. Others don’t.
There’s a scientific study out there that found that thin people on average eat more than fat people. Yet they remain thin. They work office jobs, and go to yoga twice a week, or they’ve romanticized going to gym for a booty blasting workout and they think that this is the hard work they’re puttig in, and that if they stop, they will pretty much overnight, automatically rocket into size 20.
Even though there are plenty examples of thin people not liking exercise while being foodies and remaining thin, they will still claim that ‘it all burns off in the hard work of taking pictures for Instagram’. Or some shit. They continue to eat fast food on the same exact rate as fat people, and they drink alcohol, which is extremely high in calories, yet they think that yoga and kale salad and a smoothie the next day solve all their problems, and fat people are just too unintelligent and lazy to do exactly that.
There are thin people being foodies and hating exercise and drinking and temaining thin, and there are thin people being gymrats and counting calories and being vegan and remaining thin and thin people an mass still don’t see anything contradictory to their gospel in those kinds of thin people coexisting, while completely disproving everything we are told about diets. It’s not about a diet, diets don’t work.
Models will claim in interviews that they have to restrict themselves severely and workout dawn till dusk just to keep up the rare body type the lottery of genes has granted them and has no intention of taking away, workout or no workout. And then they die of malnourisment.
Thin people turn to fat people and tell them to follow the diet and workout for years, because they believe, ultimately, that all the body types stem from one thin one, or a couple of types of a thin one, so there must be a way to reach it. If they have that body type naturally, they feel entitled, they feel like they tried hard enough to reach it, even if by doing virtually nothing, and other fat people are not trying hard enough.
It’s akin to a person born rich telling a poor person to try harder to win the lottery of capitalism. I’m not even talking about billionaires, it’s the same mindset in upper middle class, who believe that by being born, stepping into all the doors that are open to them and literally not bankrupting themselves in a system built to prevent that, they’ve done some hard labour and deserve that pat on the back, and a brownie, that’s their guilty pleasure, alongside cocaine or some shit.
It’s an untrue, entitled mindset that’s harmful for everyone involved, including models and thin people who feel guilty for eating, and to fat people who often themselves think the same way, that if they work hard enough, they can win the lottery of genetics.
And it takes so much hard work to break free from that mindset.

“Trump is a cretin and a racist and a buffoon. But we fool ourselves if we don’t recognize that he is a sort of savant, a con man but an instinctive political animal who has a deep hold on a big chunk of the country. Language, tone and voice are at the heart of that. Understanding how this happened is well worth our time.”
