Eternal Law (2012) | Episode 1
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Siegfried takes a gift up to Mrs Stokes and accidentally reveals a piece of his heart at the same time.
So… at the end of The Animal Within’, we’re all getting the lesbian vibes, right?
I mean, Faith says they’ll be out there meeting guys, but I’m not really imagining much male input into their lives at all.
Sam and Ade go birding
Sam and Ade go birding / channel 5, starting April 14th, 8pm
If Siegfried Farnon is ‘selfish’ and ‘inconsiderate’ and ‘irrational’, why is he the one person they’ve all at some point opened up to? And why has he listened patiently and reassured them all like a loving friend/brother?
- Helen opened up to him about her fears of losing James to the war.
- James opened up to him about his fears of leaving Helen behind when he went to war and also his fears for her with brucellosis.
- Audrey only opened up to him about her fears and how she was coping regarding waiting for news of Edward when the Repulse was sunk.
- Tristan, albeit initially reluctantly, only opened up to him about what happened in the war that traumatised him.
Siegfried may have his moments of being difficult to live with, maybe even difficult to like or love sometimes, but when it comes down to it he’s the one person they all know they can turn to about their fears and traumas. And he will listen and, where relevant, reassure and provide his thoughts.
Siegfried Farnon is a good man, as Audrey tells him in Andante. A better man than he, or the others, sometimes remember.

I’m resharing this old fic of mine for anybody wanting to read it after seeing the news story of the dogs that escaped from their captors and walked home across country together. Homeward Bound - the Darrowby version.
Oh, my. I'd love to hear about a bunch of these, but how about:
Unlikely Friends
Temptation of Zak Gist (I just watched this and am so sad it only ran that one series! It was quite good!)
Either of the originals you'd like to talk about. 🙂
Unlikely Friends is the one I expected nobody would necessarily want to read (and I also got stuck). Gerald returns to Darrowby but contrary to what anybody expects, he and Audrey don’t rekindle their relationship, but Gerald and Siegfried get talking and fast become friends. For reasons she can’t quite work out, this bothers Audrey. (I always felt in another situation S & G could have got on really well and I wanted to explore this)
Temptation of Zak Gist - set after the end of the series, the idea of this story was to go back and revisit the past that Zak and Richard clearly share. However, I’ve only got as far as the two of them chatting about what happened with Hannah and Mr M’s response, so far, and then a bit of a start into the story main. Hopefully I’ll get back to it sometime soon.
My original work… Tracks of Life is about a man who has a life that is wonderful on the outside but crumbles very quickly suddenly. So he sets out to start afresh and do something he’s always wanted to do - to work with trains. He volunteers on a local project, finding his purpose and a new love in the process. (I got a long way into this, then life got in the way, and now I really need to get back to it).
Please tell me more about "Nightmare". That sounds angsty, and I love angst! ❤️
‘Nightmare’ starts with Audrey going out in search of Siegfried, who hasn’t returned home. She finds him heavily bleeding in a field, some distance from his abandoned blood stained car. Tristan arrives and saves him, and they get him to hospital. Siegfried is adamant he was attacked by German soldiers (and keeps having further nightmares about them), but there is no evidence of that, making them conclude that he is having flashbacks to his war.
(I wrote quite a bit of it and then got stuck)

The Skeldale family throughout the war / 1939-1945
Samuel West behind the scenes / Howards End (this was on an old DVD, filmed with my phone, turned into gif)
I think I’m in withdrawal from Twelfth Night. I went to see it, in the end, 4 times in London (and once in Stratford the year before). It was amazing every time. The best Shakespeare production I have seen to date (and I’ve seen some brilliant ones).
Also, for a man who claimed to be very self-conscious of his legs, Sam absolutely owned this outfit and the role in general. He broke my heart every night with his final scene. Amidst a truly truly wonderful cast, he still amazed me with his performance each night.
