André Aciman, Call Me by Your Name
-I’m sick, aren’t I? -I wish everyone was as sick as you.
“Did i have a spot?” he asked with a half grin. “You’ll always have a spot.” I wanted to tell him that the pool, the garden, the house, the tennis court, the orle of paradise, the whole space, would always be his ghost spot. Instead, i pointed upstairs to the French windows of his room. Your eyes are forever there, i wanted to say, trapped in the sheer curtains, staring out from my bedroom upstairs where no one sleeps these days. When there’s a breeze and they swell and i look up from down here or stand outside on the balcony, i’ll catch myself thinking that you’re in there, staring out from your world to my world, saying, as you did on that night when i found you on the rock, i’ve been happy here. You’re thousands of miles away but no sooner do i look at this window than i’ll think of a bathing suit, a shirt thrown on on the fly, arms resting on the banister, and you’re suddenly there, lighting up your first cigarette of the day — twenty years ago today. For as long as the house stands, this will be your ghost spot — and mine too, i wanted to say.

It’s better to have nobody than someone who is half there, or who doesn’t want to be there.

Shown are photographs of Jack and Jackie openly expressing their affection by walking arm-in-arm, hugging, or holding hands which was a rare event as Jack didn’t like openly expressing his feelings. After the Cuban Missile Crisis and especially after the loss of their son Patrick, their relationship became stronger and Jack started to shed his aversion to public displays of affection. The last photograph is heartbreaking and eerie as it was taken only a couple hours before the President was shot and killed and is one of only a few photographs taken of them holding hands.
RIP President John F. Kennedy | May 29, 1917 – November 22, 1963
“He always seemed to be striding through doors into the center of some starting triumph or disaster. He never reached his meridian: we saw him only as a rising sun.” –New York Times’ James Reston
“He died in time to be remembered as he would like to be remembered, as ever young, still victorious, stuck down undefeated, with almost all the potentates and rulers of mankind, friend and foe, come to mourn at the bier.” –Journalist I.F. Stone
“He was an incendiary man who set most of the people around him on fire. He was really fun to work with him.” – Secretary of State Dean Rusk
“Kennedy was a magnificent natural leader. He was like a red-haired Irish sea-raider. Everyone had the natural feeling they’d follow him anywhere. He was quick and funny, and committed to all the right purposes. He was the guy you’d want to follow into the machine-gun fire.” –Budget director David Bell
“When he came into the room he was like the sun: he radiated confidence and victory.” –State Department official Pedro Sanjuan
“He treated us more as colleagues or associates than employees. He made clear that we were there to give advice as well as take orders.” –Ted Sorensen
“I can’t imagine a better boss. He gave you enough discretion, but at the same time you knew you were going to have his support even if you did something a little bit wrong. He wouldn’t criticize you in front of anybody else.” –Domestic affairs assistant Myer Feldman
“Everybody on the staff really liked him and respected him. You’d really knock yourself out doing anything you could for him. He was terrific.” –Staff assistant Ralph Dungan
I am still here, guys! But haven’t seen/felt the reason to post anymore, really.
Hope all is well with all my followers. My ask is always open if you need anything!
