Don’t wanna hear your sad songs I don’t wanna feel your pain
If there’s a future…
Hayley with a fan at Epcot in Orlando
Do you remember the first time that anybody ever called you inspirational or influential, and how it made you feel?
“Back in the day on MySpace, like 11 or 12 years ago, we would answer every single message. As things started to get bigger and the messages came in quicker that obviously became much harder, but I remember those early exchanges. Some people were self-harming, others were dealing with psychological issues, but they told us that our music and in some cases my lyrics helped them to deal with their problems and overcome them. That was really heavy. Seeing the lyrics to our song ‘Emergency’ - the line that says ‘These scars they will not fade’ - tattooed over a girl’s cutting scars broke my heart. I’ve never dealt with self-harming in my own life. I’ve been depressed and had struggles that I never thought I’d pull out of, but that was a whole new level. To see somebody proclaim that they were past that point in their life and mark it with words that I’d written was really heavy.”
