Hello, my name is Natalia and I would like to say a few things about my tumblr Inair Things (more information on the side column).
My intention is to write this Tumblr in English to practice it, but without giving up my language, Spanish, so you'll probably find every post, or many of them, in both languages.
I write about whatever I want—TV, books, The Sims—but it's possible my Tumblr has become all about Buddie and Chenford. Sorry, I can't help it 😉
Just above, I have included several links, such as the archive where all the posts are sorted by date, the fanfiction I want to recommend, and credits such as the theme I am using.
Before anything else, sometimes things happen that makes you want to tear your hair out. I like to post in Spanish all that I post in my imperfect English, but I accidentally deleted the text document where I had written the posts in Spanish, so since the season has already ended, I'm not going to post them.
I don't know where to begin because this episode was a total emotional rollercoaster. Maybe it's because we already knew what was going to happen at some point in the episode, there were predictable moments that you probably saw in many theories, but also unexpected moments that make you want to scream, and I'm going to say...
WHY, ALEXI HAWLEY! WHY! WHY DO YOU GIVE US A MAGICAL MOMENT, TEASE US WITH THE SWEETEST TASTE, AND THEN STAB US IN THE BACK???!!!!
So let's take it one step at a time, so I don't get lost which is very likely, because I have so many ideas swirling in my head. This post promises to be long, so I don't know whether to split it into two parts or do it all in one. We'll see. Okay, time to focus.
LUCY'S RING
Let's start with the funny part.
Tim decided to hide Lucy's ring at Wopez's house. Apparently, he visits him every day, which Angela finds very amusing, and she never misses an opportunity to tease her best friend. Tim was afraid Lucy would find it at home, so he came up with this idea. And guess who ended up finding it? Emmy Evers. Tim shows the ring to Nolan and decides he doesn't want to leave it in the locker room because there are too many nosy people there. He puts it in his uniform shirt pocket, and you can imagine what happens next: he obviously loses it. In the end, it's Lopez who finds it.
PENN'S BAD LUCK
Penn is a character with incredibly bad luck, or rather, he's a character the writers have been doing a lot of dirty tricks to all season. He's supposed to have two years of experience, so why do they treat him like a complete incompetent? I don't think he deserves it. In the end, it turns out he wasn't, and even Harper praises his work.
WE HAVE TWO NEW BAD GUYS ... and they're BFF
Not BFF but villain #1 is the lawyer of villain #2 or super villain.
Villain #1: Malcolm Walsh (Sean Patrick Thomas), he's a Monica 2.0, it was to be expected. Malcolm isn't trustworthy and he's proving it. He's dirty and calculating, and he's brought with him a big problem between Wesley and Tim, since they want to base Everett's defense on Tim's unlit camera and the attempted bribe to make Tim look guilty (but where's the dashcam footage from Everett's car?, in episode 8x08, we know the cam recorded the whole conversation). We know that Tim reported everything, and Wesley is only cooperating with Malcolm to investigate his involvement in the Liam Glasser case. But I think the damage is done for Tim, we know he'll end up forgiving him.
Villain #2 (a.k.a super villain): Heath Everett (Jeffrey Vicent Parise), a mercenary with a ton of money and very long, very long, claws. He's freed by his people using a helicopter with a very powerful magnet, but in the end, in the middle of a dangerous operation, he's captured again. Honestly, I thought he'd escape, but I'm convinced that in Season 9 he'll be freed somehow. The threat to Tim is still there. I think he's the villain the show needs right now. Monica's character wasn't contributing much anymore, Oscar is hilarious, we'll definitely see him again, and then there's Liam Glasser. We still haven't gotten to know Everett completely, but he's sure to be a significant character next season.
CHENFORD
We just witnessed one of Tim and Lucy's most beautiful moments. After days of agonizing over it, losing the ring, and having to act quickly because the entire precinct knew he was going to propose, he finally did it. And in a special way that shows how much he loves Lucy. Tim doesn't like going to the beach, but he knows Lucy does, so following Grey's advice, he decides to propose at sunset. It was beautiful because they were a couple again as dawn broke. Obviously, Lucy said yes, so we have a wedding!.
But their joy was short-lived because a couple approached them and injected them with something that rendered them unconscious. They put a bag over their heads and made it clear that it was Heath Everett's order, thus fulfilling his threat to Tim when he refused the bribe.
So we have Tim and Lucy engaged, but we also have Tim and Lucy kidnapped by Everett's hitmen. I'm not going to give any theories now because I want to do that in another post.
REFLECTION
Let's hope Alexi Hawley and his entire team have taken note of the negative reception his children have received on the show. They've been wasting screen time on their absurd storylines, especially Rodge's, with those cringeworthy and ridiculous songs. His storyline as Celina's boyfriend is the only excuse for including him in the show. If his father is doing it to promote his music career, he's certainly not doing it any favors. Hopefully, in Season 9, they'll be left at home and won't be stealing screen time from the development of other storylines, including their characters, like Dash in this episode who only appeared to ask Nolan for a recommendation. I understand they're his children, but this constant influx of them… well, it only goes so far. Once can be funny, twice too, but beyond that, it's just not funny. When you turn one of them into a recurring character who also dominates the screen time in at least two episodes, then the nepotism becomes blatant.
So season 8 is over, now they'll return to the set in July, but we'll be left wondering about Tim and Lucy until probably January.
Some weeks ago I've received a rather negative comment accusing me of plagiarizing the fanfiction I want to recommend only because I really like them, even being called a thief, so I want to clarify in case it happens again, because may be more people who clearly can't read.
I am not the writer of those fanfics, and it's clearly stated in several places in those posts that I didn't write them, such as in the subtitle and the short description I provide.
In the fanfics info, I include the title and the writers nickname, along with their corresponding links, because that person likely has other fanfics worth reading.
I think that person just trolls online, loves to criticize and hate, but doesn't even take a second to read the posts. They simply skim them and comment, and then when they're criticized, they're probably the first to get offended. What a sad life they must have! Time will tell.
Personally, I HATE when someone takes credit for other people's work or doesn't even include a short credit note or a link. Even if these people write fanfiction as a hobby, they deserve recognition for their work because they dedicate hours of their valuable free time to it with all their heart and soul. It isn't fair to have that enthusiasm, that dream, taken away so quickly and for the wrong people to get all the praise.
There are two episodes left to finish season 8. Has all this time really gone by that fast? It seems like January 6th was just yesterday, and yet we're already in mid-April. Perhaps the lack of breaks is why this time seems shorter. Then we wait until July when they return to the set, wait for bts pictures, videos, TikTok, and then back to January, I suppose.
I'm just going to share my thoughts on a few things about episode 8x16.
Wedding bells are ringing!
Eric Winter hinted in several interviews that marriage was the natural next step for Tim and Lucy. It's not like they started their relationship several months ago, and many comments suggest it's too soon. Is it really, as Lucy said in a previous episode, that three years is a short time? They were separated, but considering the chaotic timeline of this show, I think it was only a few months. No, it's definitely not soon.
Joy gave Tim his grandmother's ring to give to Lucy, but he doesn't like it very much, something Angela and Harper confirm. The ring might be nice as an everyday ring or for a party, but not as an engagement ring, because for that purpose it's truly hideous. Personally, it's a style I don't like at all, not even for everyday wear. Tim is a little anxious about telling his mother, but in the end, he does. It turns out the stone in the ring is fake, just glass, so he asks her to go with him to buy Lucy's ring, she is really happy.
Everything points to him asking her in the last episode. I don't think I'd like that to happen in that episode, I want it to happen in the next one. Because I can see that if they leave it for the last one, they'll do what they did last season, leaving it as a question mark until Season 9, which is ridiculous and doesn't make sense because they live together. Lucy's answer is logical.
I'd like to see something funny, like Angela (and maybe Harper) pestering Tim, asking if he's proposed yet, and even Angela trying to organize the wedding as the groom's best friend. She is really proud of be Tim bff.
Now the antagonists
I have a feeling we're not going to make any progress on this front and that Season 9 will be more of the same with Monica, Oscar, and Glasser, when they have a very juicy antagonist in Heath Everett and the opportunity to shift Harper's focus to Tim.
Either these storylines advance significantly in the two remaining episodes, or we're going to have to keep putting up with them, and frankly, it's getting incredibly tiresome, especially Monica. I think they've run out of ideas for this character, a sign that they've squeezed every last drop out of her and she's run out of material. The synopsis for the last episode mentions a major criminal and the attempt to capture him, and maybe it won't be Everett, whose storyline they may have already scrapped, who knows, but rather Monica Stevens's new friends. Although, they could throw in a plot twist and make it Oscar (no, please). I'm torn between Aidan Warner and Heath Everett, unless it's someone new, and I'll say it again and again (and in future posts) that The Rookie needs new antagonists.
I wasn't going to post anything else until I saw this week's episode, but the synopsis for the season 8 season finale has come out and I have to comment on it because I find it very interesting. That doesn't mean I'll write what I think about tonight's episode because there's something that's going to be amazing, although you've probably already seen the sneak peek.
There are bts images from this episode, I think published by some specialist, that look like something intense is about to happen, involving a police car being lifted into the air, maybe to simulate an explosion, you know, one of those scenes they later add special effects to and all that, and a bridge.
This is just a theory. There are also images of Tim with facial injuries that don't match the police station explosion (8x06) or the elevator fight (8x12). His stunt double also appears with very similar injuries. My theory is that Tim is going to lead the team that has to capture this criminal. Could it be Everett? Because it doesn't make sense that it could be Oscar because he already played a key role in the Season 7 finale when he kidnapped Nolan, it has to be a powerful criminal for them to take such measures to stop him. Tim's going to be involved in something that incapacitates him, and that's when Lucy will have to take charge in a way she's never had to before.
This episode is going to define at least the beginning of Season 9. I'd like that criminal not to be caught yet, and for it to be Everett, because as I said in previous posts and I'll say it again, The Rookie needs a new antagonist, preferably one with charisma and who's engaging.
In today's episode, something very important is going to happen for Chenford. I just hope that it gets resolved before this episode and that we don't have to wait until January to see how it ends, especially since that would be pointless, we know what's going to happen.
There are only 3 episodes left until the end of Season 8, and it's already time to start thinking about what will happen in Season 9. But the current season isn't even over yet! I know.
What would I like to see happen in the last three episodes of Season 8?
I have so many things on my mind, but I think I'll focus on the main ones. I'm writing this post on Friday 17, so there are still three episodes left. I might post this when there are only two left, but I don't think I'll do that because the plan is to do it this weekend.
Plot Resolutions
There are some plot lines that should be resolved this season, characters who should be gone for good measure because they've reached their limit.
➖Monica Stevens: I think the most important thing is to finally wrap up some of Monica's storylines. I believe this character has nothing left to contribute because she's been overused. Monica should disappear once and for all.
➖Liam Glasser: They missed the opportunity to create a compelling storyline with this character, a storyline with significant weight that the writers squandered to give Monica screen time, for example. It seems that episode 8x16 is going to focus on him and Harper, and I sincerely hope his storyline is finally resolved. But on the other hand, perhaps it's better not to do it yet, I'll explain later.
➖Miles Penn: He needs to stop being a rookie, and above all, he needs to be grounded and prove that he is a good cop by not making the same mistakes again, guided more by his heart than by common sense.
Plot Points to be Left Open
There are plot points that should be left open for the next season, such as a new antagonist. They have one, and they should take advantage of it because it has potential.
➖Heath Everett: a mercenary with a vast network who is capable of bribing federal agents to escape, until he encounters Tim Bradford, which is the worst thing that could happen to him because Bradford doesn't accept bribes. The situation ended with Tim arresting him and Everett threatening him. I think the season should end with this plot point open to be fully developed in Season 9, with Tim as the protagonist and not another character taking over the story, even though everyone is ultimately involved.
➖Liam Glasser: I said before that the plot with Glasser should end, and I stand by that, but with some reservations, because there's something strange about it, and that strange thing should be Vivian Eckert. I'm convinced she's corrupt (the actress is now main character in CIA), and that would be an interesting plot point that would directly involve Wesley.
➖Oscar Hutchinson: Oscar has escaped once again. I like Oscar, I see him as a comic antagonist, and deep down I think he apreciates Nolan. At some point, I think Oscar will end up helping Nolan in some way in Season 9, but I don't think they'll catch him again in the remainder of Season 8.
Characters That Should Disappear This Season 8
(but this world is not perfect)
There are some characters that should disappear, and I really don't think the show would miss them much.
➖Bailey Nune: This is a personal opinion, but I don't like this character. As I said several times, the writers haven't made an effort to integrate her into the show, instead, they're constantly forcing her into storylines she shouldn't be in. Yes, she was in the military, she's in the reserves, but she's a firefighter, and there she is acting as a spy, a police officer, everything. I've said it before: why didn't they write the character as a forensic doctor or a science police officer?.
➖Matthew Garza: I find him incredibly annoying. He's had more screen time this season than many main characters like Tim. It's like trying to cram The Rookie: Feds into the original series when that show was canceled.
➖Monica Stevens: Based on what I've written above, the character has been completely overused.
➖Rodge and Dash: a.k.a Hawley's sons need to stop going out and stealing screen time. Rodge is an absurd character, and Dash is going to be Nolan's puppy, he'll call him when he gets into trouble to get him out of it.
Personal Lives of the Characters
➖Chenford: I'm one of those who wants to see them married and having children, because that's something that's been in the scripts since Season 5, but I want to see it off-screen, taking advantage, for example, of the time between seasons so they don't have to use pregnancy prosthetics. But maybe I don't want it right now, when I write what I expect from Season 9, I'll elaborate more. I'd be happy if they just finished the season engaged, and that's something Eric Winter alluded to in an interview, that it would be the next step. Did he say that because it's going to happen? Will the season end with an unresolved question? We know Lucy will say yes, but maybe we won't see it until January 2027.
The positive thing about Chenford this Season 8 has been Tim's personal growth. He promised Lucy better communication, and I think he's kept that promise quite well, despite hiding Lucy from his mother. I don't think that was a communication problem, but rather stemmed from all the traumas he still carries from his childhood, traumas that aren't going to disappear overnight. No, they take time, and this time around, Lucy is being a fundamental support for Tim.
➖Wopez: They're Wopez, they're always a safe bet, but it's normal that they have their problems too, and Wesley going back to being a civil lawyer could be a source of tension. I think the fling will be short-lived and that he and Sean Del Monte will return to the district attorney's office when Vivian falls, which we don't know yet, it's just speculation on my part.
➖Grey and Luna: What I hope in these last three episodes is that they resolve their problems completely, that they talk, that they go to therapy, whatever they have to do, or at least that they end the season together and on good terms, with the therapy potentially being a plot point for Season 9. And if they decide to separate them, I hope they don't drag it out any longer and just do it already.
Since there are still 3 episodes left, this whole opinion will surely change because we really don't know what awaits us, and what we believe or would like to happen is one thing, and what the writers have prepared is another.
There are 3 episodes left in the season, and right at the end, they throw in yet another documentary episode. You can love them or hate them, but on IMDb, whose credibility I'm not sure about these days, it has the lowest rating.
And most importantly:
THE ROOKIE HAS BEEN RENEWED FOR A SEASON 9.
What do I think of these documentary episodes?
Well, I like 50% of them, I don't like 50%. This particular episode? I didn't like it. I found it incredibly BORING. They can't come along AGAIN and, with 3 episodes left in the season, several strong storylines underway or with potential, air a filler episode, devoid of content, boring, with an absurd script, and featuring Abigail, who isn't a good character, but the actress, Madeleine Coghlan, is a writer on the show, so we have to keep putting up with her, just like we're going to have to keep consuming screen time with Garza in the next episode and the NepoHawleys surely next season, and there are 10 main characters (if we include Bailey "Sue") and their storylines have been reduced to give minutes to the secondary characters, with some you don't notice their presence much like Bailey, but with others you really notice their absence like Tim, the storylines should be focused on them, not on Garza, his niece, Rodge, or Dash, not to mention the antagonists.
Why do they keep airing these kinds of episodes if it's proven they're not popular?
Well, I don't understand it. I admit there were documentary episodes I liked, they're not my favorites, but I found them entertaining, like the one in Season 7 where Tim and Lucy were drugged with truth serum, but in general, they're filler episodes that add absolutely nothing, that aren't interesting because many fans find them boring and even tedious. They're not bad episodes if you're coming off intense storylines, but they should air mid-season, not right at the end (episodes 14 or 15). And I missed the Chenford moments we've always had in these episodes, with the filmmaker (the one and only Alexi Hawley), who doesn't even have a first or last name, asking about their relationship.
I have nothing more to say about this episode because I want to write a post this week about what I'd like to see happen in these last episodes of Season 8, and emphasize a few points once again. I'll also write something when the season ends about what I expect from Season 9.
This episode had some funny moments that I won't spoil just yet, but it also had some negative aspects, which seem to be a recurring theme in Season 8, so here we go.
I don't have much time, so I think this post will be brief (umm, nop), but also because there isn't much to say compared to previous episodes. Overall, I didn't like this episode very much, I see it as just filler.
Funny Moment
Lucy not wanting to reveal Tim's surprise, and Tim messing things up with his super car, or the Tim Mobile, Bradford Mobile?, Super-shop, and showing personal photos that I found very CUTE. We see that Tim has a softer side, despite having a tough-guy reputation to uphold.
Tim's New Way of Being the Boss
The mobile office car seemed interesting to me, although I thought it would end up destroyed. It's not a bad idea to have it out on the street supporting his agents and having an assistant every so often, because it would differentiate it from Grey's role by adding new and unusual elements. They can do it on TV without problems. Obviously, the car is product placement, it's a Chevrolet (a brand I think has stopped selling in Europe so as not to harm other more established brands owned by General Motors), and we'll probably see it in the next episodes, although I don't know if it will make it to the end of the season or to Season 9.
We keep stealing screen time
We keep stealing screen time from the main characters by focusing on Alexi Hawley's children, and to top it all off, Hawley himself is going to star in the next episode, which is the typical documentary-style episode that so many detractors have, I quite like them, but I wouldn't have waited until the end of the season to air it when there are only three more episodes left, except for that one. No, it should have aired at the beginning of the season, especially since there are still open storylines like Everett and the threat to Tim, if they decide to go down that road, because it would be a good storyline, one they can't afford to waste, the Glasser one. They can't keep adding content-free episodes like the one we just saw.
In this episode, Dash once again takes up a large portion of the runtime. Who cares about this kid? Is he really that important that he's occupied so much of several episodes this season? Well, yes, the boss's son, basically a nepo baby, just like his brother, and I hate to say it, his songs are ridiculous, and his relationship with Celina has no chemistry. Once again, he's there because he's the boss's son. The thing is, I don't think any of them contribute anything at all, and they're cutting screen time from Tim, for example. What they're doing to Tim Bradford this season is outrageous, all to give screen time to the nepos. I mention Tim as an example because Penn is also in it, he's been absent from two episodes this season, and Harper and Glasser storyline!!!!.
Why are they bringing in the Hawleys? Because they're probably aware that ABC has decided to cut costs, which they'll likely have to implement soon, and that they're practically free filler. I don't think they get paid like any other guest star, basically because of who they are.
The website SpoilerTV has published a very interesting article regarding the presence of Alexi Hawley's children in the show.
Evers and Del Monte, your trusted lawyers
I still think Vivian Eckers is going to fall sooner or later, that Del Monte will return to his old position, and Wesley to his, but I find it interesting that they're teaming up. They can always take on clients connected to police cases to make their interactions more believable, cases where they know the accused is innocent, that the police are too but can't prove it so easily. I mean, López and Harper giving them work, which I don't know if that's even possible. Anyway, I think they'll return to the district attorney's office because that's where Wesley actually has a real connection with the police not being Angela's husband.
As for Sean Del Monte, well, I like him, and I'd prefer him as a main character over Penn and even Celina, whom I adore but at the same time can't stand at times. But it's not going to happen, and in fact, I'm in favor of reducing the main characters by removing Celina and Penn. Something like what they do in 911 with Ravi. The actor isn't a main character because I think he's also in other projects, but even though he only appears in 12 out of 18 episodes, he's considered a main character.
What conclusion do I draw from this episode?
A very clear one: enough is enough with the Hawley kids stealing screen time from main characters. That time could be used to develop storylines like the one I mentioned earlier with Everett and Tim, because this series needs new villains, and Everett is a candidate who could work. His storyline wouldn't just involve Tim, in fact, I'd like to see the FBI mess up, put Tim in danger, and have Grey hold Garza accountable. That way, we can give Grey a bit more screen time, because this season his character has revolved around the dramas caused by Luna. This could serve to promote Grey to Captain of Mid-Wilshire, which could solidify Tim's role as Watch Commander, allowing him to work both in an office and on the streets. I'll surely revisit all these ideas in future posts.
This post has turned out longer than I intended, and I still have a few things left to mention. Oh well, it'll stay like this.
Perhaps I'll write a post this week about what I expect, or what I'd like to see happen, in the last three episodes of the season.
BAILEY NUNE Y THE ROOKIE: FIRE
At the time of publishing this post, episode 8x14 had already aired in the United States, and some things I've written here have changed.)
Episode 8x13 was quite interesting in several aspects, especially one, but I think this post will focus on the most negative ones, particularly one in particular.
I can't believe 13 episodes have already aired and there are only 5 left until the season finale. Then we have to wait until January for Season 9, which I don't think will take too long to confirm. So, we'll have to enjoy the behind-the-scenes footage, Eric Winter's TikToks, and come up with a ton of theories, which is inevitable.
I think, and I only think this because I say one thing and then don't follow through, that I'm not going to talk about Chenford in this post because I want to focus on a series of topics that I've already written about before and that are a recurring theme, not just for me but for many fans of The Rookie.
BAILEY NUNE AND THE ROOKIE: FIRE
Yes, they can do it, a show just for her, The Rookie: Fire, that way we're rid of her. A show that will surely end up being canceled because she'll be the only character, because Bailey is capable of everything, except drawing, she won't need anyone's help except when she needs her husband's police badge. A show that would have a very, very short run, because Bailey Nune is so perfect at everything that she's a very boring character, added to that, Jenna Dewan may be a very good dancer, but as an actress she's really bad, and that always affects a character's portrayal, even with a good script. That said, I have all due respect to her because within her limitations I think she does well, and this is obviously my personal opinion, and I will always respect those who think she's a good actress, but her strength is dancing, that's where her true talent lies.
Another reason is that I think The Rookie is designed to be one of those shows that doesn't allow for spin-offs because it's like living in a time loop but with different people and settings. In that respect, they should learn from Chicago, which created three different shows: firefighters, police, and hospital, all of which can coexist without any problems.
I have to admit that I quite liked Bailey in this episode because she seemed rather humble, considering the character's exaggerated qualities. But it made it very clear to me that they don't know what to do with this character, and we'll probably see her return to her old position in the next episode because it suddenly became available.
IS IT NECESSARY TO PULL ALL THE KIDS IN?
How long are we going to have to watch Alexi Hawley's kids stealing screen time from other characters with only 5 episodes left? And for what? To promote his new song, which steals precious seconds. I don't live in the United States, so I don't know if this Zander Hawley is successful in music or if he's one of those artists no one knows, and that's why Dad plays his songs in his shows.
But with only 5 hours left in the season, having to see the other kid in the next episode is just unacceptable. In the promo, he's asking Nolan, who's with Tim in the patrol car, for help. Is this going to be the new modus operandi? The kid gets into trouble and calls Nolan to solve it.
SETH RIDLEY IS STILL A LIAR
A compulsive liar can turn their lies into truths, it's a psychiatric problem that requires help, so, the approach with Seth has been the wrong one. I think he "manipulated" the polygraph at every turn because, for him, his lies are truths, saying exactly what Tim and Lucy expected him to say. And his apology for the fire isn't valid to me, I don't believe that remorse.
In the end, one thing became clear to me about him, he doesn't regret his lies, he's proud of them, and he tries to manipulate Tim, Lucy, and even Penn by trying to elicit sympathy.
I liked this character, much more than Penn. It's a shame they decided to make his character like that. They could have used his cancer in a positive way, using it to give hope to people who suffer from it, showing them that once they overcome it, their lives can go on, they don't know what to do because they had to mortgage their entire present for an uncertain future.
WESLEY EVERS IS LIKE A COTTON CANDY
Wesley Evers is a really nice guy, sometimes too nice, he'd rather lose with his head held high than play dirty.
It was absolutely certain Vivian was going to win, but not for long, because all her dirty tricks will be exposed. I also have a feeling Sean Del Monte will return to his old position because of the scandal that's about to erupt. Vivian will fire Wesley, something he’s very sure of, but Sean will ask him to come back. It was with that job at the district attorney's office that they found a balance for this character, and it worked perfectly well.
This is my post #100, which is quite an achievement considering my blogs usually don't last very long, except for one I had where I wrote book reviews that I decided to close a long time ago, partly because the PC where I had written a ton of reviews broke down and I couldn't recover them. I mainly end up abandoning blogs due to lack of time, and also lack of motivation, but I like Tumblr because I feel like I don't have to write long things, even though I do end up doing so. So we'll see how long it lasts, whether I reach 150, 200, or more posts, even if I take a break now and then.
Es The Rookie o The Rookie: Feds
¿Elroy?.

Lucy and Tim go on a long-term undercover assignment…as a married couple…after their breakup. It goes as well as you’d expect.
I want to comment on a few things from episode 8x12 that I find very interesting, and because I honestly need to say them or I'll explode, so here they are. I've already written about many of these things in other posts, but I'll repeat them, and I suppose this won't be the last time…
This episode was entertaining but had many disappointing moments. I don't know what ideas Alexi Hawley and her team have in mind, but what they're putting on screen are quite strange and, let's say, take the easy way out.
Who is Bailey Nune, really?
She was introduced to us in an absurd way, appearing at Nolan's door covered only by a towel, with a rather unbelievable backstory. Little by little, they developed her into a superheroine who can do anything, a Mary Sue, in other words. I think I'll write my opinion of this character in a separate post, but basically, I don't like her and I don't get along with her. She was introduced as Nolan's love interest, and they really have no chemistry. Her profession as a firefighter/paramedic has been shoehorned into many storylines where it didn't fit, scripts where it's clear she was written in simply to justify her presence in the show.
But in this eighth season, this character has become one of those laughable characters, she just makes me tired. First, she's offered a job at the Pentagon, it must be because of her incredibly successful military career, I wouldn't be surprised if she'd been awarded the Medal of Honor, then Grey involves her in a case with a mercenary who escapes by crashing a plane (until he runs into Bradford, and that's the end of his adventure, for now), then she's pursued by thugs who must think she's keeping secrets about the Roswell aliens, and now, in the promo for the next episode, we see that she's back to being a firefighter, and on top of that, she's the protagonist again? At this rate, Season 8 is going to be The Bailey Nune Show.
Nolan has infinitely more chemistry with Genny Bradford, and making her his love interest would have been much easier, cost much less money, and above all, it would have been more believable.
Is it The Rookie or The Rookie: Feds?
Enough with all the FBI, Garza, and niece stuff! Feds was canceled because it was a terrible show with awful characters, but now they're forcing Feds into the main show just because they feel like it, taking away screen time from main characters like Tim, whom I'll talk about next. And while they're at it, they're also cutting Grey's screen time. Wouldn't it have been easier to promote Grey to Captain instead of having him run around like a headless chicken? The FBI, Garza, and his niece are getting tiresome, they're taking screen time away from the main cast.
I do see one positive thing though, and that's that I get the impression they're building a relationship between Penn and Garza's niece, Elena? I don't want a Celina/Penn pairing because they work so beautiful as friends, but not as a couple. Penn/niece seems interesting to me.
Where is Tim Bradford hiding?
I won't deny it, Tim Bradford is my favorite character, even though I started out hating him sooo much, but he won me over. I think he's the one who's evolved the most, and at the same time, one of the most complex of them all. This season he was promoted to Watch Commander and he's barely appearing on screen, you know, to give more screen time to Garza, the bad guys, and so on. He admitted to Lucy that he's bored, and she answer him: “Well who says you can’t do your Watch Commander job from the shop, out in the field with your peeps?”, she told him to do it his way because there's no set way to do that job, and she's absolutely right. Eric Winter already said in an interview that Tim will try to find that balance between being the boss and staying in the thick of the action. One of the best part of this episode was his lift fight.
I'm back to Bailey and her appropriation of storylines that shouldn't be hers, but Tim's, and for good reason: because Tim is the one who stops Everett and the one the mercenary threatens, saying he'll regret not accepting the bribe to let him go. That plot should focus on Tim Bradford and no one else. Something tells me his superiors are aware of the bribe attempt and the threat, but so far they've given everything to Bailey, they've made it all about her. We'll have to wait and see how things develop in the next few episodes. To be honest, I don't really expect anything from the next one. But Everett is the perfect enemy for Tim, and the perfect opportunity to learn something about his military life, in some episodes, it was implied that he wasn't an ordinary soldier, but perhaps served in an elite unit. I'd love to know if he received any important medals, and I'd love for him to at least surpass the great Bailey Sue, and why does he have that flag they give to families at funerals?.
Eric Winter also hinted that his character will become very interesting in the final part of the season.
Villains Who No Longer Make Sense
How long do they have to keep bringing back Monica Stevens? She's a completely exhausted character, she's already run her course, just like Elijah Stone, bringing him back to accuse Wesley of having an affair with Monica, when in the end it turns out to be just a ploy by his rival in the district attorney election, is ridiculous. They should just bring back Del Monte and that would solve the problem. The same goes for Oscar, whom we'll see soon, I suppose, he's a bit worn out, but he's still funny.
The Rookie needs a new villain, and that villain should be Everett, and his target should be Tim Bradford, which will involve the rest of the cast. They need to stop forcing Nolan into the spotlight and let that character develop with the plot. They need to stop trying to shoehorn Bailey Sue in and take over other characters' storylines. We need to see Harper and Lopez in their purest form, because we also have the Glasser-Novak storyline, which shouldn't be made the main plot but rather a secondary, yet important, one because it also involves Wesley.
POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT THE EPISODE
The final scene with Tim and Lucy, with Tim expressing his doubts about his job as Watch Commander and Lucy encouraging him to embrace it by imposing his own way of doing the job. And Tim complaining about Lucy's kisses because of his face injuries but not wanting her to stop, they're just adorable, and Tim with battle injuries is even more so, we definitely need more of this.
The development between Luna and Grey. Was it really necessary to create this storyline just to give this couple more momentum? No, they were the show's great stable couple who had to survive the empty nest syndrome.
NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT THE EPISODE
Bailey Nune's absurd prominence. I'll probably write a post just about her, though I don't know for sure because I haven't had much time lately.
Garza and her niece hogging screen time that should be dedicated to the main characters.
Villains who are boring, like Monica, and bringing Elijah Stone back just to say that Wesley is cheating on Angela.
AND ZUZU
Who is Zuzu? I think it's someone we know. Could it be Oscar? It's unlikely, but it would be a very unexpected plot twist.
