You’re sick and tired of the brothers not understanding the pain you go through every month. After complaining to Solomon about it (along with their total misunderstanding of human biology), he comes up with the perfect curse. How do they all handle it?
Much to your disappointment but not surprise, you don’t get an immediate reaction.
He is the avatar of pride, after all
Not so much as twitch or a fault in his perfect posture
You’re starting to give up on the whole ordeal. Maybe demons have completely different pain tolerances than humans.
But as the day goes by with Lucifer still under the curse, you start to notice something
You aren’t even sure what you’re noticing, exactly. There’s no way you would’ve picked up on it if you didn’t know the demon very well.
Lucifer is… quieter. More subdued, maybe? He rarely interjects in his brothers conversations, doesn’t start any himself.
His brows furrow in the way they do whenever he has a migraine but won’t admit it
He stares at the House of Lamentation’s wallpaper with such intensity it looks like he’s searching for the meaning of the universe in it
In fact, it’s so easy to forget he’s there that his brothers forget to suppress their natural rowdiness
“Hey! Get over here or I’ll-“ “What the hell did ya do that for?” “Would you shut up, I’m trying to-“
The rising voices are suddenly cut off.
The tone of Lucifer’s voice leaves no room for argument, or for anything else. Its finality is so grave it feels like death itself.
The brothers all freeze with varying expressions of concern, panic, and fear.
Even Satan stares at his older brother like he’s grown a second head.
All at once a chorus of ‘sorry’s rings out, the brothers scrambling to obey the eldest, even though he had given no particular instructions.
Levi goes to hide in his room. Mammon starts sweeping the floor randomly. Beel goes to make Lucifer his favorite sandwich.
Looking exhausted, Lucifer retreats to his study without a word.
Eventually, being the only one brave enough, you knock and enter the study cautiously
Lucifer is bent over his desk, looking entirely normal at first glance.
But as you approach, you notice the tension in his body. The beads of sweat on his forehead. The paper at his desk is completely blank, and he’s holding his pen so tightly it looks ready to snap.
“….You know, it helps to lie down,” you suggest gently
It takes a lot of persuasion, but eventually Lucifer concedes and lets you lead him to his bed
For all his reluctance to rest, the moment his back hits the mattress it’s like all the tension bleeds from his body, melting into the sheets
His eyes close and he lets out a long sigh
For the rest of the night Lucifer allows only you to stay with him
You talk idly about nothing for a long time, your voice eventually lulls him into a peaceful sleep
The next time your monthly visitor arrives, you find multiple care packages inside your room holding everything you could possibly need.
Heating pads, extra blankets, plushies, tea, human pain killers, chocolates, a white noise machine. And a note, written in familiar neat cursive.
“Let me know should you need or desire anything else.”
Shows a lot of initial bravado at the suggestion (though you can tell he’s a bit nervous)
“Pfff, you think one of your stupid human problems is any match for The Great Mammon?”
He doesn’t leave his bed the entire day.
He’s restless, curled up in a ball one moment and sprawled across the full bed the next, trying to find a comfortable position
You know from experience it’s a losing battle
He acts pathetic in the way that men do when they catch the common cold, you know?
Moans and groans and whimpers to win your sympathy. He only stops when you lay next to him and gently card your fingers through his hair.
Expect to be waiting on him until the curse wears off. But also, “Hey! Don’t’cha leave me alone in here!”
Yeah, you’re not going anywhere.
Eventually he settles a bit, his face pressed into your side and his arms wrapped around you with a desperation he would never admit to
A wave of intensity hits him and you know it because he actually goes silent for once
And if afterwards, you notice some red streaks on his face? No you didn’t
Overall an incredibly satisfying experience
Mammon knows when your period is about to start even before you do. You aren’t sure how. Is it some demon sense? Is mammon keeping his own secret calendar for your cycle? The world may never know
When it does start, Mammon goes into panic mode, remembering what it’s like to experience those nauseating pains for himself
Suddenly he’s entering your room with dozens of shopping bags on each arm
He’s got all the necessities- hygiene products, heating pads, pain killers.
But also just like, everything he could possibly think of
New clothes, expensive jewelry, takeout from every restaurant you’ve ever mentioned liking, plushies, at least 6 blankets, etc..
He pushes them all on you at once, trying to extinguish the discomfort on your face
You appreciate the thought but, jeez
When you tell him that all you really want in that moment is him, his frantic expression softens
“Well, that’s an easy fix, ain’t it?”!
He wraps you in his arms in an instant. He isn’t leaving your side unless you explicitly tell him to.
At first he’s actually kind of excited. He’s heard of the menstrual cycle from lots of human media, and now he’ll finally know what it feels like! It’s like, a new level of immersion
Oh boy does he take that excitement back fast
He doubles over within moments, holding his stomach and panting
“A-ah! MC, please tell me this is a prank-“
When you assure him that no, this is in fact what uterus-owning-humans go through on a monthly basis, his face crumples in defeat and misery
Proceeds to profusely apologize for every single time he’s ever bothered you during your time of the month
After a bit the satisfaction wears off and you start to feel bad
You do your best to help distract him, curling up in the tub with him and playing games
But in-game, his character movements are jerky and distracted and you very quickly fail nearly every level
Next you try some of his favorite animes, but you notice his eyes are glazed over, his face frozen in a grimace, obviously not absorbing the show
Turns out the cramps are really exacerbating his sensory issues
The tv is too loud, the lights are too bright, his clothes feel itchy and tight
So you let him change into something more comfortable and decide some simpler relaxation may be in order
So you extinguish most of the lights, only leaving the soft blue glow of the jellyfish lights illuminate the room, and use your DDD as a white noise machine.
You’re not sure if your presence is too much for him, so you offer to leave, only to be met with a panicked protest asking you to please stay.
So that’s how you end up laying beside Levi in silence, rubbing small circles into his hand. Finally he seems to be experiencing some semblance of peace, his eyes drifting shut
When you knock on the door to Levi’s room, your expression tells him all he needs to know.
“Are-are you sure you want to be here? I mean-not that I don’t want you here! It’s just, Belphie could help you sleep or Satan could probably make a potion for the pain-“
When you assert that all you want is to be with him, Levi is deeply touched
You really want to be with him, when you’re at your most vulnerable?
He doesn’t take the gesture lightly. He gets you anything you want, not pushing you into anything but rather making gentle suggestions of what might help
“Well, we take a nap, or we could watch that cutesy anime you liked-“
He’s happy to follow your lead or just to take care of you if you don’t have the energy for decision making, even if he second guesses himself a lot
Somewhat like Levi, Satan is initially intrigued by the idea
Treats it a bit like a science experiment, which annoys you a little bit
When you cast the spell, within the span of a moment countless emotions flash over his face
Confusion. Intrigue. Surprise. Pain. Dread. And eventually lands on regret
Tries to be stoic about it and fails miserably
Refuses to leave his room and God help any of his brothers if they dare to barge in
Gets angry at just about everything that isn’t you
Beel is chewing so loudly he can hear him across the house. Mammon borrowed some grim and hasn’t paid it back yet. Belphie borrowed one of his books and drooled on it. Lucifer, well, exists.
You listen to him rant and rave while you force his head into your lap, knowing the anger is probably distracting him from the pain
When you start to card your fingers through his hair, he breathes an unintentional sigh of relief, his body relaxing
Satan is unable to maintain focus on his book, so you end up reading to him, the gentle flow of your voice lulling him nearly to sleep
You pick a book he’s already read, not one he’s currently reading, since you have a feeling he won’t be retaining much at the moment
It’s really just your voice that’s helping so much, not the words themselves
At one point you offer to go look for some tea that might help, only to feel an iron grip as Satan’s hand grips your wrist
He doesn’t say anything, but his eyes plead with you in a way you’ve never seen before. You sit back down and continue reading.
After the entire ordeal, you scarcely hear from Satan. He doesn’t invite you to impromptu book club meetings or outings to visit the stray cats in the alley way behind Hell’s Kitchen.
Was he embarrassed? Was he angry with you? You didn’t know.
But as soon as your next period begins, it all becomes clear
You’re ushered into Satans room, which is even more of a disaster than usual. Countless books on human anatomy, meditation, the pharmaceutical industry, ancient tombs on healing, even wiccan books about chronic pain relief, are scattered about. Sticky notes litter the pages.
“Ummm-“ you start, unsure of how to continue.
Satan carefully picks his way through the room, weaving between stacks of books and various magical items.
“I’ve been researching.” Is his entire explanation. With it, he presents to you a small vial of intricate glass design. A mysterious red liquid is contained inside.
After further insistence from Satan, you down the liquid in one swallow. Unlike other potions you’ve tried, this one doesn’t make you want to immediately throw up. It’s slightly sweet with a bitter aftertaste, not unlike that of black tea.
He watches you intensely. You stand there, staring back unsure of what he’s waiting for. He didn’t just give you a potion to turn you into a rat, did he?
But all at once, the aching and contractions in your gut ease. It feels like the pain itself leaks out of your body. You finally release your breathe. The instant relief makes you feel a bit like you’re floating.
“How the hell did you do that???”
“I haven’t found a solution to all your other symptoms yet, but hopefully that helps. In the meantime, you’re welcome to relax and read with me until you regain your full strength.
