Her hand gently brushed back the ten year old’s unruly curls, knowing she’d most likely break into the supply of scrunchies and hair ties that Nikki had packed in her bag.

“I know it seems kinda scary, but I swear up and down that you’ll have a blast here. It’ll seem like a mess, and it is. But I came here and I had a blast. I met tons of interesting people and went on so many adventures. I promise, you will too.” She leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her daughter’s forehead as the girl let out a soft sigh of acceptance and relief. Nikki pulled her into a hug, blinking back maternal tears that burned in her eyes. “Write me tons of letters. If you get really homesick, ask David if you can call me. He’ll make sure you’re okay.”
