~*~
“Arthur, is your family in the mob?”
A bark of surprised laughter escapes before he can stop it, and he moves to sit next to Eames on the bed. "Uh. No. I feel like that would be a lot easier to explain than the truth, though."
“Which is…?”
He takes a breath. Might as well get it all out at once. "I spent my entire adolescence being a vigilante, then got into a massive fight with Batman, after which I left Gotham, changed my name, and never looked back."
Written for @inceptionbingo squares Meet the Family and Character Backstory! I came across an ancient Tumblr post of Inception AU ideas, and immediately sent @nutterzoi a message, because "a dcu au where arthur’s real name is tim drake and he has to take eames home to the batcave to meet bruce and his brothers" was just TOO good to pass up, given our ancient love of Tim Drake and the Batfamily, and our new love of Arthur/Eames.
It’s as if brief flashes of memory overlay Arthur’s reality, a double exposure, both images real. He seems to flick from one photograph to the next, his waking hours a series of out of context snapshots, both temporally removed and yet concurrently occurring.
Double Exposure on AO3.
1.5k. Written for the 'Temporary Amnesia' square on my bingo card. The ending is somewhat inconclusive (although hopefully optimistic), and it's kind of mostly angst, so do skip if that isn't something you're in the mood for.
“What happened?” Arthur asks again when Eames reaches out for the bandaids and another tube of ointment for his stitches, and he’s half-expecting him to evade his questioning again, to turn it into another bout of flirting or bickering. Eames uses a Q-tip for the application, stroking a finger down the side of the small wound. His silence lasts so long that it frankly starts to annoy Arthur.
“Last year, we worked a gig with Moreau – do you remember Moreau?”
“The French guy? The lousy extractor who’s always trying to feel me up?”
Eames huffs in annoyance.
“Can't believe you remember that arseface and not me, I'm shaking my head at you, Arthur.”
“Perhaps he's more memorable than you, Mr. Eames. I did have to break three of his fingers last time we worked together.” Arthur's smiling mischievously, sending him a playful look.
“One day, I'm going to bite those dimples off your pretty face, just be warned,” Eames grouches.

Multi-fandom Summer Reading Bingo FAQ
Q: What's all this, then?
A: This is a low key summer reading challenge specifically for fandom. All you have to do to participate is get a bingo card, read a fic, leave a comment, and mark that square off on your card!
Q: How do I sign up?
A: Fill out this form!
Q: What are the dates of the challenge?
A: This year the summer reading challenge starts on the summer solstice, June 20, 2024. You have until the fall equinox, September 22, 2024 to complete your bingo card.
Q: Who can participate?
A: Anyone who reads fanfiction!
Q: Can I get a text-based bingo card instead of an image?
A: Absolutely, please let us know you’d prefer that format when you sign up.
Q: Do I have to leave a comment to complete the square?
A: Yes. I mean, we're not going to check up on you or anything, so it's the honor system. But let's give creators some love, shall we?
Q: Can I listen to podfic instead?
A: Yup! The comment rule still applies, though.
Q: What if the thing I'm using to complete my square isn't on AO3?
A: That's fine. You can reblog on Tumblr, leave a comment on a blog post, or otherwise let the creator know you enjoyed their story/art/podfic.
Q: What sort of things are on the bingo card?
A: You can see our full list here.
Q: What if there is one of my triggers or something that squicks me on the list?
A: Just let us know when you sign up and we'll make sure you get a card that doesn't have those things on it.
Q: What do you mean by [fill in the blank]? Does this fic count for that square?
A: It's up to your interpretation - we wanted to leave things as broad as possible. If you're really stuck, send us an ask and we can talk about it!
Q: What do I win if I get a bingo?
A: The priceless satisfaction of a job well done. Also, we might have something special for you at the end. Guess you'll have to participate to find out.
Q: Can I sign up for multiple cards?
A: Yes, but we ask that you limit yourself to one per month (so if you get your first card on June 20th, wait until July 20th to ask for a second one).
Arthur needs to get his head in the game. Ennui and a nagging sense of discontent can wait until the job is over, until he can get back to his apartment and wash it all off, spend a few weeks recharging so that he doesn’t feel like his skin is too tight, like the constant pressure to be ‘on’ all the time is slowly eating him from the inside.
There are more important things to think about at the moment, namely what the hell is going on with the projections.
Or
With a little encouragement, Arthur learns to be unprofessional.
Hi! Are bingo cards going to be sent after the sign-ups will close on the 30th of June or should we expect them sooner? 👀
Hi there!!! You should definitely expect them much sooner! If you've signed up for a bingo card and haven't received one within a few days of filling out the form please let us know either here or at [email protected] - otherwise, you're free to hit the ground running and create to your hearts content once you've received your card!
Hi! I signed up for & received a bingo card with my main username, but I’m thinking about creating a sideblog for inception things. Does it matter for you mods logistics-wise if I post bingo fills from a sideblog separate from the name I signed up under? Thanks in advance :)
Nope, that's completely fine! If you'd like the bingo card to be in a name different than the one you requested feel free to reply to the email you received and we can modify it for you! Otherwise, you are more than welcome to post under the original wherever you choose.
this is gonna sound real stupid but, how does a bing card work? and why are there sizes? (this is my first bingo ever in any fandom ever so I’m cluelessTM, I’m sorry)
Not stupid whatsoever! When you request a bingo card (consisting of either tropes, kinks or a mix) you also request a size of card. The default size of a bingo card is 3x3 squares, but also is available in 4x4 or 5x5. If you requested 3x3 you would get a card with nine total squares, each with a different item for you to fill.
For example, if you choose a 'trope-only' 3x3 card, you would receive nine squares that might have items such as "fake/pretend relationship", "soulmates" or "hurt/comfort" - this can include Inception-related tropes like "somnacin mishaps" or "Mal was right". You would then set out to create your work(s) to fill the tropes on your card. Usually, one square per work (example in this case, a soulmates fic), unless it's multi-chaptered, but we're not too fussy here.
Once you have created at least three works out of your nine you may have gotten a bingo. This is probably best explained here what a bingo might look like. A 4x4 or 5x5 bingo card will, by total number of squares, give you more prompt variety, but the number of works required to achieve a bingo will increase, and is more of a challenge.
All that being said, you don't have to aim to achieve a bingo at all with your card, if you don't want to. We love to see it, but mostly we hope it helps boost your creativity.
We hope this helps. Let us know if there's anything we left out, or if there's any other questions!
