what draws you to starlight and twiglim?

For Starlight, I think I’m so drawn to her character because of how emotional she is. I love impulsive and reactive characters, and Starlight Glimmer is like. The most reactive character in the world. I love how sarcastic she is, and how weird she is. Her relationship with Maud (the most obviously autistic character in the world) has always been special to me. Starlight is a good representation of autistic people that don’t really fit the stereotype. It’s so obvious the writers had fun with her.
She’s also kind of deeply fucked up in ways no other character is. Having absolutely no impactful relationships past being a child is insane when you really think about it. It’s not like her family was murdered in front of her or anything, she has no terrible shocking heartbreaking backstory. It’s incredibly mundane, and what really ruined her is her own mental issues and loneliness. She spent her teenage years doing nothing but ruminate over the one pony she thought understood her. She had absolutely nothing else, and nothing to lose by running off and starting a cult. There is so little information on her, so I like being able to explore her childhood in my own head. It’s so fun to roll around different possibilities. She’s very fun to think about…. I really like peeling away parts of Starlight’s psyche girl…I wanna know exactly what’s wrong with you so bad.
For Twiglim they really hit EVERY KIND OF TROPE I LIKE. I’ve always loved narrative foils. They start off mutually haunting and hating eachother, then become so indebted to eachother by the end. After Twi’s coronation they have to split apart and its like man.. the distance… the yearning potential…They have so much going on….
It’s just so crazy to me how Starlight ends up living in Twilight’s house even when she leaves and taking up her job as Principal. She’s always been compared to Twilight, she literally ends up becoming Twilight’s shadow in the very end (it’s even reflected in their cutie marks…) Constantly living as a reminder of someone you were deeply and intimately close to who is very much gone now must be awful. I love it a lot. I have a whole 2 and a half minute long animatic storyboard about this, I probably won’t finish it… If anyone wants to see I can dm them it LOL
I think Twilight’s obvious favouritism for Starlight at times is so. Cute too.. that big fucking portrait she has of them together in their house. Bro. I need to kill her. She has so much love for that stupid lilac pony. I mean, who asks a super villain to move in with you the minute after she changes her mind on killing you. Speaking about villain Starlight, she obviously has SOMETHING going on for Twilight in s5. Stroking her up and down and being all in her face oh my god bruh. Spending a whole year stalking her …she’s truly in love ❤️
This is purely in my own head, but twiglim are so incredibly soulmates to me. I think thats the most alluring part of their dynamic to me. They’re bound together by destiny (or harmony or whatever) in a way that the mane 6 isn’t. It’s not like she’s some seventh element. She really is something uniquely intertwined to Twilight’s life. Starlight is something so special to Twilight in a way nobody else is. So uniquely intimate… and they both know eachother so well.. they have completely flipped eachothers life around. I like how she’s compared to Spike in reference to Twilight. Almost like they’re family👀👀👀almost like they’re marrie👀d. Twiglim didn’t parallel the Canterlot Wedding spell for no reason.
There’s a certain guilt in becoming so close and special to someone who’s life you could’ve ruined. Starlight having a beautiful home, lovely friends, being an automatic shoo in for a job, getting the opportunity to reconcile with her childhood friend, all thanks to Twilight. I like playing with her not exactly feeling like she deserves to be that close to Twilight after everything she did. On the other hand, Twilight loves every little part of Starlight and loves having her this close to her. It’s so nice to think about
I love it when Starlight points out one of Twilight’s tells. Like her comment on Twilight’s love of charts (aaaand so much else) in Sparkle’s Seven , her comment on Twilight staring out the window, on her Pinkie pie voice. She genuinely knows every little part of Twilight in ways barely anyone else does. I can’t read their interactions as anything but star-crossed lovers, or something just out of reach of that.
I have more to say in reference to Twiglim, but I want to reveal all that in future posts… plus this is getting kind of long. I hope it’s clear how much I love these two..
