back in BOO Nico did not confess his feelings to Percy instead he decided he must keep them locked up and move on, he stays at camp half-blood and sometimes does jobs for hades occasionally catching up with Hazel and Jason. Percy goes to New Rome University with Annabeth but things slowly fall apart as they realise anything more then platonic love exists from their bond of surviving two wars and tartarus together, so Percy spends more time at home with his family struggling with his mind and feelings. Percy and Nico with the others sometimes hang out, run into each other at camp, but they don’t talk much and often find each other staring. Eventually, Percy and Annabeth break up when he realises university is not what he wants to do and he feels that his life is not going the same direction as Annabeth. this leads Percy to go back to camp half-blood, his true second home, and asks Chiron if there’s any work he can do. He finds that Nico is there asking the same thing, having stayed at camp full time and being an adult now he had out grown the camp activities a long time ago.
now with a whole summer together Nico and Percy finally face their complicated past— Nico trying so hard to keep his hopeless devotion and love under wraps and Percy trying to understand his confusing feelings that he tried to deny is love. especially when a monster attack happens and Nico gets unexpectedly hurt and Percy steps in to save him just like all those years ago with thorn.
