The door clicked open. Marla froze on the threshold. Her eyes landed immediately on the cot, pristine and untouched. Then on the couch, wide enough for at least one of them to stretch out properly. And then, finally, on the floor.

Three massive turtles, tangled together like abandoned laundry, half-covered by a thin blanket. Donnie’s goggles were askew. Mikey’s head was resting on Raph’s thigh. Raph had one arm thrown over both of them, massive, overprotective.

She exhaled a slow, helpless sigh. “This is not... what the furniture is for,” she whispered to herself.
