Reading; Oooo, okay, pleased to say this: I just finished a DRAFT of a book by @e-louise-bates called (at least as a working title) "The Sorceress By the Sea," (which got its start here on Tumblr actually). It's a cozy fantasy (I just noticed in that last link that she wasn't sure it counts as exactly a cozy fantasy, but it FEELS like what I would call a cozy fantasy at any rate) about a young woman who inherits a "summer" cottage on the coast of Maine from a hitherto unknown great-aunt, and apparently also inherits the charge to be the Sorceress-steward of all the magic in the area. It's really delightful, but she's still got work to do before she puts it out there so you'll all just have to wait :P Last week or sometime while I was reading this somebody here-- I think it was @non-plutonian-druid -- reblogged something about wanting a romance-free story about adults and I was like "OOO I'M READING ONE RIGHT NOW UNFORTUNATELY IT'S NOT FINISHED YET SO I CAN'T REC IT TO YOU!" Here's me reccing it anyway far in advance.
Also, can I just share a line from the email Louise sent me yesterday after she got my critique back, because it made me laugh? "So, uh, thank you for making me realize what my story is about!" Because that's what's so great about having critique partners and beta readers! They see your work with fresh eyes and help you see the forest through the trees so that you can then rearrange the trees to make the forest better! XD This is why I'm still looking for someone to beta my fics when they get to that point-- you get so caught up in the trees that you can't see how it's all hanging together anymore. To mix the metaphor for you.
Last Song; I have not actually heard any music yet today. I KNOW! Freakish circumstances for me! But hubs is home sick so the clock radio alarm didn't go off as usual, and I haven't gone anywhere to have the car radio on, and I haven't DONE anything else today to just PUT music on. According to my Media Player that's open the last song I listened to on this computer was "Unforgettable" by Natalie-and-Nat-King-Cole, but it's been a few days since I played my computer music too so I know I've heard different songs on the car radio since then. And also sang "The Wheels on the Bus" at an outreach storytime yesterday.
Last Film; I honestly have NO IDEA. I haven't watched a movie in ages, in the theaters OR at home. I went to check my yearly round-up draft and according to that the only thing I've watched in 2026 at all is The Muppet Show Reboot Special from-- late February early March or whenever that was. Not counting YouTube vids that I mostly just listen to instead of watch, and rewatching Legion for the Summerland Wafflewatch (which at this point is mostly just me and @stephsageek but we have fun!) (we're halfway through season 2).
Last Series; Series of what, TV shows? Legion rewatch as I said! Oh, I've binged through the @eightdaysofdiana podcast series in the past few weeks. And the last book series I read was Mini Myths, a series of board books by Joan Holub and Leslie Patricelli, that reimagines greek myths as stories about-and-directed-to modern-day toddlers, which were actually pretty impressive the way they adapted, say, the story of Icarus to be about a little kid flying kites with his dad, and still hitting all the main beats of the story!
Sweet or Salty; I'm not being ornery, I have to say both mixed. Chocolate covered pretzels, peanut butter cups, trail mix. I swear when I have sweet I have to wash it down with something salty and vice versa. Sometimes it becomes an endless cycle, which doesn't help my tendencies toward overeating.
Working On; Well, I've just finished critiquing Louise's book; I still catalog another ten discs or so of my dad's 45 collection most evenings; and fic-wise I just (like a week ago) finally realized after two years how to get Luther in on Superhero Therapy in "The Beginning of Something Else Entirely." It was right under my nose, too-- in my notes I made last summer trying to outline what everyone's arc is, it was both he and Amy as the characters I wasn't sure what to do with, and in BOTH their notes I have that their relationships to their "younger" siblings have recently changed and they're having to adjust to it-- why don't I friggin' have them talk to each other?? But now I'm STILL not sure how to weave it into the overall story. I started writing like a journal from Luther's point of view (shout out to @littlerit for at least attempting to help me find samples of Luther's writing) just to figure out how it fits but it may end up itself being a separate story in the Legions of Umbrellas series: This, Too, happened, it just doesn't fit in the main plot! But at least Luther gets Superhero Therapy, too!
Tagging...I guess I tagged a lot of people in this post already, so you all can count yourself tagged for the game! As can anybody else who wants to play!
