Here's the thing about the ending that's helping me cope. As much as I would have loved for them to have picked themselves and to bring the world back to what it was, they couldn’t. Even if they wanted to, they couldn't. Because so long as there is a Heaven and a Hell, there will always be a war eventually. No matter how many times they avert it, even if they're in charge like Aziraphale tried to be, there will always be someone desperate for power. And humanity will always be a casualty. They could never fuck off to Alpha Centuri or South Downs and retire because they would either be dragged back in, or they would feel like it was their fault if something happened to humanity. And all they've ever wanted, almost more than to be with each other, is to watch humans grow up and succeed.

idk man I just think it's beautiful how aziraphale and crowley sacrificed themselves for humanity and in turn they get to be reincarnated as humans again and again and again in different time periods so they can always find each other, so that they can live their whole human lifespan together forever without the influences and duties of heaven and hell on their backs and be HAPPY

well apparently everyone else hates it. i do not. i love it. i love what they did with it, i love that crowley got to choose, i love that he chose humanity, that he did not choose to run away.

because THAT is who he is. he loves his stars and creations, he loves humanity, he loves the messiness, the good and the bad, the ugly and the beautiful, he loves watching them. he showed jesus all the kingdoms of the world to share that love with someone who he knows already felt it.

in the end, they made that choice together. it's a choice they have made before, over and over, saving humanity over themselves. no god, no angels, no demons, no thousands of years of suffering for all the millions of eternal beings.

personally, i choose to believe that god's last gift to them was integrating them into the fabric of the new universe, so they will find each other in every lifetime. but without anyone watching, without any plan behind it, without senseless suffering, without creating stars just to destroy them.

just the two of them, together, always.

I think people are forgetting that Crowley and Aziraphale’s story is about freedom and self determination. They chose to go out with their original universe because it’s what they wanted. They got to make a decision based on their free will to give the rest of the world the freedom they wanted.

And somehow they were cosmically rewarded by meeting each other again!! “But it’s not really them” Right, the angel and (former) demon are gone. And instead of an immortal existence tied down by the system of heaven and hell, they get to live their human lives FREE and TOGETHER and IN LOVE!!

It’s maybe not what a lot of people wanted but it’s a beautiful end to the story and I will stand by that
