folklore, in every definition possible, was the album of the year for 2020. so many people found comfort in that album during one of the hardest times of our lives. taylor shaped pandemic music releases and showed that art continues to thrive even in the worst of times.

okay i just gotta come out and say it. while all the album nominations for aoty are really good, none of them absolutely defined 2020 like folklore did. all sales and record-breaking folklore did aside, let’s face it: 2020 was the Pandemic Year and folklore was the Pandemic Album.

none of the other albums were as poignant for the time as folklore. it defined the pandemic for so much of us and in such a personal way. and that’s not to say that the other albums didn’t, but not on the scale that folklore did. nobody listened all the way through those albums consistently like people did with folklore.

like, if the grammys want the album of the year award to be awarded to an album that truly defined the year, no other album did that like folklore
