plot: he cheated with someone else, she found out, their relationship is on the rocks. ANGST.
was it his fault that cheating had been too easy? was it his fault that it was simply his nature? or was it possible that there was always an endless list of excuses to be used? excuses he was using to justify even today’s actions. he knew he was late, and he knew that he wasn’t helping their situation. but gabriel didn’t care right now. it had been a day of distractions, from an early morning round of golf, an afternoon matinee on broadway street, and spending the rest of the afternoon at one of his favorite bars. he knew he was supposed to be back by six, the agreed upon time between him and the current girl in his life. but it was nearly seven, and he was just pulling into the entry of their apartment building. the valet would take care of his car, so tossing his keys to the young boy he headed inside. opting for the stairs instead of the elevator, it wasn’t till closer to 7:15 when he reached the top floor, standing outside his- their?- apartment. gabriel took a deep breath, and turned his keys in the lock. there she was. sitting. just waiting for him, he thought. he should be a gentleman, try to work harder. but his lack of motivation wasn’t trying to erase itself. he simply gave a strong, “ ‘evening. ” as he walked inside and closed the door, making sure to lock it behind him. there. he said something.
It wasn’t as if she was waiting for him at this point. She’d enjoyed the silence that filled the apartment, nose buried in paperwork. It was the only way to take away the focus on the fact that he’d felt the need to turn to another woman to fulfill his needs. As if she wasn’t good enough–?? After a good few hours of channeling her energy towards her career, the femme poured herself a glass of whiskey, leaning back in the couch. Even before her lips had met the rim of the crystal, she could hear him entering. Nails drummed against the glass, not bothering to look in his direction. “Hi,–” Ines replied in a low manner;– there were simply no energy left for arguing at this point. She’d made it pretty clear what she felt about the situation.
he paused. it was almost scary being here. for a second. it was way too easy to remember their fight. there was a reason why he didn’t sleep here last night. even thought it was his apartment. she was a fierce fighter, when it came to her opinion, if last night was any proof. “ you’re still here? ” he was being cruel. he knew. and in a good and perfect world he would restrain those thoughts. honestly- in a good and perfect world, he wouldn’t have cheated in the first place he imagined. but gabriel, he was hurting too. sort of. of course, she was probably hurting more. that was a given. they hadn’t been going out for too long, but long enough that he knew she had feelings for him. and then he had to go and hurt her, just like any gentleman would do.
