I wondered, why so many people talk about "be respectful, because he is so powerful!" when it comes to infernals or "dark" deities like The Morrigan.
I mean, do you say the same about the christian god? Do you say the same when people want to reach out to Gaia, Aphrodite or any other deity?
Yes, deities are powerful. But there is no need to monger fear, just because Mary Sue was not able to see her own flaws or because Karen gave the responsibility for her life to a deity, who never did anything to her - but wanted to help.
One does not need to monger fear, because as long as you are respectful like you should be with any being on this planet, they won't even give you a judging glance.
Can we please just stop these extra flakes of "ooooh be careful with deity xy!"?
Ah, yeah. And of course deities are different if you reach out to them and want something - or if they reach out and wanna help themselves already.
I mean, see it like it is with humans. You won't go to a person, tell them "hey, help with xy. I have a chair to sit on for you!" And if you do, you are thankful and respectful naturally.
And if the same person comes to you and asks you, whether you need help, that person also gonna be different to you than when you reached out to them, right?

So. I'm not fully back, I will be soon, but I see some things that I can't just stay quiet about.
This will get into religious trauma, tw for that, but I just want to say some words to the community of HelPol, pagans, witches, and anyone else just willing to read this. And I'll give you the general idea now. I want to send a message to all in this communities and even those outside of it that might be seeing in from the outside, those either carrying an interest or in their own corner of the internet, that this NEEDS to become a healthier space for all, and we all need to combat the toxic ideas that are out there together. Not through bickering with each other, and not through telling anyone that things should be one way or the other. Think of it as PSAs versus an entire government. The point isn't control, it's health & safety overall.
Keep reading for the full explanation! ♡
This might not be super organized, it's almost 4 am. However, I've seen a lot of toxic attitudes and actions throughout the communities I've mentioned above (HelPol, paganism in general, witchcraft), and it hurts to see so many suffering or being hurt by the unhealthy ideas circulating all over the internet at this point.
How do I identify "unhealthy"? I'm not doing this based on my preferences or personal beliefs. I'm doing this based on things that have shown evidence to be unhealthy for people's lives and mindsets, no matter the person.
There's a LONG list, I won't give the entire thing, I'll post more in the future on this, this is the intro and the start for this movement.
Now, I'll start at the beginning. I was raised in a strict Christian household, and I still live in one to this day. I've had to forge my own understanding of what healthy religion is, breaking fully away, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally from the attitudes that my family showed and taught me, and engrained in me a very hateful and exclusive mindset towards others in the past. It's trauma that doesn't just go away, so I'm working on that every day, but seeing it propagate even in religious/spiritual spaces that aren't tied to Christianity, to still push forward an idea that is reminiscent of Christianity and the toxic kind of it, is honestly a heartbreaking thing, as I see many that end up falling into these practices, either because they have not deconstructed from a Christian background, or those that have shown them these practices have not deconstructed themselves.
And I think we need to dedicate more to helping others understand how to deconstruct, what that even is, and what does religion look like when it doesn't let itself be tainted by a toxic perspective.
I say this especially as there are a LOT of pagans, polytheists, witches, and otherwise, that have come from cult backgrounds or other religious trauma (Christian or other), and it's a disservice to not do our best to ensure that our communities are as safe as possible, especially from misinformation and toxicity.
So what is all this?
This is a call to action to everyone that can do their best for the community they're in to work together to provide a lack of misinformation and toxicity to any space that we can affect.
I'd highly appreciate any questions, comments, or asks you have on the subject, but even more, I'd love to have a chat and with your help, I'd love to post more on best practices in the community that we can possibly have.
I'll do my part, of course, and I'd rather this is less an organized group, and more an encouragement and another source, hopefully among others, that people can have in their back pocket to know what a healthy environment looks like and feel more supported than in danger, stressed, or defensive.
I'd love any ideas anyone else has on this, and thank you for reading this rant/PSA, hopefully it doesn't fall on deaf ears, and have a lovely day or night!
When people start their divination journey, most of the times they start out with oracle or tarot. These are the most common divination techniques - and those, that have a good structure, as each card has a fixed basic meaning.
But at one point on your journey, you might hear or read the word scrying.
I could start out with all the basics around scrying now, but just let me give you a short definition of it:
Scrying is basically an intuitional way of divination, where you use a surface or element to see forms and shapes, that you gonna have to interpret.
Easy, right?
And that is the problem. When reading this definition, you have clear ideas on how scrying should look like and how to it should work. You maybe gonna expect to see full HD pictures or clear shapes. Yay!
But uhm. Nah. Sorry. Grab that expectation, walk to the trash bin and throw your expectations away.
Done that? Perfect! Now let's move to what you can await in this tumblr for next weeks!
About this series:
This series shall help the readers to understand, what scrying with a mirror (or a crystal ball) can look like.
This series gonna consist of different around 1-3 minute readings about small parts of the how to do - and maybe on how to DIY one yourself!
I also might add links to other helpful tumblr and youtube posts to get a deeper understanding of different basics.
This series is about >my< experiences. Yours can look truly different to mine!
Having said that, I want to give a short reminder: while this method definetely has a lot of sources, my main sources are my experience and a few youtube videos. Absolutely fine for me, but I am sure, I never invented the wheel anew.
I am a chaos witch. For me, that means to get a lot of trial and error. Especially around divination, I happen to go into stuff without reading about the stuff for weeks. I am just trying it out, facing a problem, ban the method for a few days and then find out my problem.
There are awesome sources. Absolutely. But man, my brain wants that trial and error.
But that also leads to not many sources besides my own experience. And while I absolutely did my job on learning about the safety with a mirror, I forgot some of the ressources. Oopsie. But for real, guys:
do your research on proper protection! Just do it.
I do have aphantasia (sometimes less, sometimes worse), so people with that condition might have fun with this series. We all are in the same boat, and small appetizer here: scrying is more than seeing. So even those with the worst aphantasia could have a good result with scrying.
I hope, some gonna follow me on that journey. Feel free to always comment, criticize or give any other feedback!
Foreword
This post primarily focuses on the responsibilities of being a Seer in ancient Greece. It discusses at length and refers to oracles as strictly divine announcements from the Gods and the location where divine messages are received. Some people may not agree with my definitions. I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the modern association with oracles as a role someone could be; however, I find this to be more of a modern association than something rooted in historical sources. That's not to say that people cannot call themselves Oracles, but it is just not the focus of this post.
Understanding the Oracle
When you think of an Oracle, you may immediately think of the oracle of Delphi; however, the Pythia—Priestess of Apollo most associated with oracles—would not have been called an oracle by locals.
The etymology of oracle comes from the Latin verb, ōrāre ("to speak"), and the Latin word ōrāclum ("divine announcement").
You couldn't be an Oracle; instead, "oracle" referred to the oracular center (such as the oracle of Delphi) and divine messages from the Gods themselves.
In ancient Greece, these divine utterances were called the chresmos¹, and those who interpreted these were called Chresmologoi, a type of Manteis or Seers.
The Pythia were Priestesses of Apollo (an official job) who delivered oracles (divine announcements) in an oracular center (the temple where they received the divine announcements)—this made them Manteis (the ones who interpret omens).
ʚଓ ⁄ Oracular Center & Deities
Seer, for the sake of brevity, is an umbrella term for those who interpret omens.
Seers did not necessarily have to be Priests or Priestesses devoted to a deity, and not all Temples were oracular centers with a Seer stationed there.
In antiquity, only a handful of deities bestowed divine announcements.
Apollo was the most predominant oracular deity. However, Zeus, Demeter (only concerning sick individuals), Hermes, and certain deified heroes (Amphilochus, Trophonius, Heracles, etc.)² also had oracular centers associated with them.
Some of them, such as the oracle of Hermes in the Marketplace of Pharae, did not require consulting a Seer.
Instead, you approached a statue of Hermes, gave offerings, and whispered the question into the ear of the statue. Then you'd cover your ears until you left the marketplace, and then the first thing you heard was the oracle.
Consulting a Seer was often a privilege afforded to the wealthy and influential. The Oracle of Delphi, the most popular oracle, was closed for the winter months, and oracles were delivered only on the Seventh. Not to mention that at Delphi, the most influential had a special privilege called promanteia, which allowed them to skip the line³. Even if you wanted to consult a Seer, you often had to plan in advance and prepare well.
You were never guaranteed an audience, and as such, many people of the time sought to receive oracles without a Seer.
Receiving Oracles Alone
As a reminder, oracles refer to the divine announcement and/or the location where the message was received. Seers interpret the oracles from the Gods and deliver them to the querent.
Consulting a Seer was not possible for everyone; however, divination was still a large part of ancient Greek culture⁴—from planning events to waging wars, every major decision was discussed with the Gods.
Remember that a Seer interprets the omens from the divine; anyone could do it. There are literally hundreds of methods to do divination⁵, and the ancient Greeks knew that.
The most common (and perhaps the oldest) method was to observe the behaviors of birds as omens.
At the Oracle of Hermes in the Marketplace in Pharae, querents ask a question to a statue of Hermes and then hear the oracle in the words of those around them as they leave.
At the Oracle of Heracles at Bura, querents would roll dice in front of a statue of Heracles, and the position of the dice constituted the oracle.
Interpreting dreams was another common method of interpreting omens from the Gods⁶.
In fact, as early as AD 180 and 210 (at the height of Classic Antiquity), Artemidoros wrote a five-book manual called Oneirocritica ("The Interpretation of Dreams") that detailed how to analyze dreams. By this point, many other books detailed dream interpretation; however, Artemidoros' was regarded as the best of the time.
"Various sortition methods involving dice, numbers, and knuckle bones existed, employed for knowledge of the future not only in formalised oracular settings but also in public places, which provided consultants with a set number of possible replies which they could use to apply to [...] their personal circumstances. ...[O]ther methods were also believed to provide divine guidance, from the surface of water to that of mirrors⁶."
So, Why Do Seers Matter?
We've already established that consulting with a Seer was a privilege afforded to the wealthy and influential and that oracles could be received without them (either by going to an oracular center or interpreting the omens themselves). So, we must now ask ourselves why people sought out Seers to begin with.
"The importance of the hiereus was largely determined by the prestige of the divinity and cult he served; by contrast, the authority of the mantis depended entirely on the 'reliability of his prophecies.' [...] While both perform animal sacrifice, only a mantis possesses the ritual know-how that allows him to interpret the divine will from, among other things, the appearance and behavior of the inner organs of the sacrificial animal.⁷”
Similar to the role of the Hiereiai—the ancient Greek Priest—being a Seer (Mantis) was a job someone had. The polis (city-state) often employed Seers and worked as civil workers.
One of the most common responsibilities of the Seer was to work alongside the Hiereiai and ensure that the Gods were satisfied with the sacrifices and offerings given, specifically during festivals. Seers frequently dealt with animal sacrifices and used the entrails to interpret omens.
It's important to note that not all Seers were bound to specific temples or sanctuaries.
"Priests were attached to particular sanctuaries; seers practiced their craft wherever their skills were needed—in different cities or demes, in public or in private, on the road, at sea, or on the battlefield.⁷"
"Recurrent in both epic and tragedy is the lesson that rulers and military commanders must heed prophetic specialists, even if those in authority find the manteis’ advice unpalatable, as failure to follow the predictions inevitably leads to disaster.
As Chilon, the Spartan ephor and one of Greece's ‘Seven Wise Men’ warned: Do not have hatred for divination.⁸"
Seers were much more accessible than the Hiereiai. Seers could be hired and traveled far distances alongside military generals, businessmen, etc.
For those who lived too far from an oracle, they were their primary source for divination. While people could interpret omens themselves, Seers were sought after due to their wisdom.
As mentioned earlier, there are hundreds of different methods of divination, and Seers were considered experts with their specialties. Many were virtually indistinguishable from the Hiereiai⁷.
They could give sacrifices just before battle to appease the Gods (sphagia) and were seen as an invaluable wealth of knowledge on the battlefield. They could prophesize whether a battle would be a success just before the fight. They were often highly regarded, and their advice was generally heeded⁸. The status of a Seer depended on their accuracy⁷, and untrue prophecies reflected negatively on the Seer.
ʚଓ ⁄ Traveling Seers vs. Stationed Seer
Functionally, there was no difference between a Seer that traveled and one that stayed in a specific temple—both, one way or another, received omens from the Divine and interpreted those omens to those who needed to hear it.
Seers stationed at a specific oracular temple were more similar to the Hiereiai.
They most likely came from esteemed families (clans) with a lineage of Seers⁹, as it was thought the "mantic ability" was hereditary. That said, the most important metric to become a Seer was skill. It was not unheard of for “peasant” children with no background to become Seers.
Mantic abilities played a significant role in the prestige of being a mantis.
"Divination was known as manteia: [...] an oracular centre was a manteion, as was an oracular pronouncement [....]. Manteia and mantis are etymologically related to mania (inspired frenzy or madness), as with manteuomai, to divine...¹"
"...[M]ania refers to a range of multifarious conditions, which cannot be concisely described by the words ‘madness’ or ‘frenzy’ used in modern English translation. In Greek, mania also implies divine inspiration or revelation. Any deviation from an ordinary baseline state of consciousness, whether achieved voluntarily or involuntarily [...] could be dubbed mania.¹⁰"
ʚଓ ⁄ Theia Mania (Divine Madness)
Divine Mania is a complex topic, yet it is part of why Seers were so unique. Divine Mania (or Divine Madness) was believed to be the connection between a Seer and the Divine—the source of a Seer's mantic (manic/divination) abilities.
In the presence of the Divine, a Seer would become "divinely inspired" (enthusiastic/enthousiasmos)¹¹ or frenzied.
Plato defined four types of Mania:
Prophetic (foreseeing the future),
Ritual/Telestic (ritualistic release),
Poetic (artistic inspiration), and
Erotic (intense emotions/passion).
This mania—a deviation from the Seer’s ordinary—proved that they were communicating with the Divine.
As noted by Plato and Cicero¹¹, Divine Mania could only be achieved during states of altered consciousness—sleep was a common one; however, being under the influence of drugs (ex. the Pythia) or experiencing illness and delirium were also acceptable altered states.
Messages from the divinely inspired were considered superior¹¹ to those that weren't. However, that does not mean Seers constantly tried to alter their consciousness to have "superior" interpretations.
Divine Mania could be achieved by letting a God "seize" one's body in a practice similar to channeling. It took many forms, from inviting the Gods into one's space during a ritual to feeling a sudden, compulsive need to create, to being overwhelmed with emotions, to experiencing symbolic dreams or visions. This was called mantikê atechnos, a divine gift or gift of divination¹¹.
It is important to note here that Divine Mania occurs when a Seer is inspired by a Divine being and/or is in an altered state of consciousness and behaves differently than their baseline.
Being in a state of Divine Mania does not necessarily mean you act outside of societal norms; however, it definitely can. If you are naturally and consistently excitable, then being divinely inspired may slow you down and dull some of that excitability.
Divine Mania will not look the same in every Seer.
ʚଓ ⁄ Indirect Divination (Art of Divination)
While Divine Mania was considered a superior way of connecting with the Gods, we have to acknowledge that not every Seer could or did use this method.
As mentioned earlier, there were hundreds of different divination techniques, and Seers were experts with specialized skill sets. They had different titles that suited their skill sets.
I won't discuss every technique here. However, this wouldn't be complete without mentioning some of the more common titles people had.
Manetis (s. Mantis) interpreted omens (birds, natural phenomena).
Chresmologoi maintained a collection of previous oracles and selected an oracle to recite based on the situation.
Theiasantes used tools of divination (ex. dice) to make prophecies.
The Oneiropoloi used dreams to forecast prophecies.
Bringing it all Together
It's time to review everything we discussed. For starters, you could not be an Oracle in antiquity—it was something a Seer gave or a place you went.
Being an oracle was not a job you could get appointed; however, being a Seer was. Seer, just as a reminder, is an umbrella term for those who interpret divine announcements ("oracles") from the Gods. They are typically bound to work at a specific temple or sanctuary like the Hierari do, often traveling around and delivering oracles as required. In a time where divination was everything, Seers gave the layman a way to connect with the divine.
Seers were sought after due to their mantic (manic/divination) abilities, which allowed some of them to experience Divine Mania or an altered state of consciousness. This was an impressive feat at the time, as Divine Mania was associated with being in the direct presence of the Gods; however, it's important to note that not all Seers experienced this.
The gift of divination comes in many shapes and forms for many Seers, yet the importance of this role cannot be understated. Seers served as civil servants for their communities and bridged the gap between the mundane and the Divine for many.

I am tiptoeing around this tumblr for a few weeks now.
I do have ideas, but I am not quite sure, what I want to do with tumblr.
So I wanna ask you (those who do not know me yet 🤭)
I am a chaos witch. I practice candle, protection, death, deity, divination, sigil, etc, magic. If me fits, I sits. Gimme shiny magic stuff and I gonna try to learn it. Because it is new and interesting and I adopt everything, no matter whether I was interested in similar stuff before.
So if I gonna talk about magic mainly, this gonna be as chaotic as my path. But be assured, that I always gonna say how it should be done properly. 🤭
A big part of my path involves deity work at the moment. This includes clairsenses, channeling and getting knowledge - about me and my Deities.
I work with The Morrigan. About Her I have the most info in my brain. And I wanna deepen it even further. I wanna take other celtic Lore into my knowledge too. This also includes celtic religious culture and even celtic divination methods.
I work with Lucifer. He is just as close as The Morrigan, but I am less into His Lore. I do have knowledge, but it is not as in depth as with The Morrigan.
So if I gonna talk about my deity work, this gonna be a mix of learning together, sharing my knowledge, mixing VPG, UPG and SPG. It also gonna be a bit about my personal bonds with my Deities (as far as I am allowed to make it official - because the bonds we share are very personal.)
My main practice is divination. Gimme a new thing to learn and I am into it! This might be, because The Morrigan helps me with that. It also m I ght be, because with divination I can actually help other people - and I want to help with my practice. I barely do magic for my own good (I do it, ngl, but the motivation is far less as if I would do it for others xD)
If I gonna talk about divination, I gonna explain divination methods, personal experiences, maybe even share how I experience different decks.
Personal interests. I like crochet. I like reading. I like different new shiny atuff every now and then. So of you are interested in this, I might more or less go into total chaos mode with this tumblr xD
No matter what: I am curious, what this poll gonna give as a result! c:
Thanks to every single person, who gonna vote in here. I really appreciate your participation ♡
Divination: Beginner Guide, Clairsenses, & Interpreting - Part 2
Clairsenses
Before we get into specifics, let's clarify the big question in this section: What is a clairsense?
Clairsenses are basically spiritual aids that allow one to gain knowledge through any method of understanding that we would regularly gain knowledge through. And we can gain knowledge through our 5 senses, knowledge given, through emotion, and through sensation.
1: Clairvoyance
This clairsense involves sight, as it means "clear seeing" and can be described as seeing something in the spiritual sense, whether that be a form, color, a scene like a memory, and so on. This can also happen either externally, like seeing it in front of you or outside of you, or it can happen internally, as if seeing it in your mind.
Through clairvoyance, you can see people's auras, events that have happened or will happen, or various kinds of spiritual entities.
2: Claircognizance
This clairsense involves knowledge/thinking, and means "clear knowing" as it relates to knowing things that you wouldn't have tangible evidence to know. This often culminates in understanding things you wouldn't otherwise know. It can be confused with clairsentience or even clairempathy, but this is purely the knowledge and thought aspect of clairsensing, and many often end up with a combination of clairsenses going off, either one after another, or at the same time.
Claircognizance can have you knowing how a person would react with little knowledge of who they are, and then perhaps seeing that through clairvoyance, or sensing the emotion through clairempathy all around the same moment of each other.
3: Clairaudience
This clairsense is connected to one's hearing, and means "clear hearing", and is best described as hearing sounds or speech in the spiritual sense. This sense is in use when you're hearing speech directly from spirits (including deities), or sounds that you might not normally hear. Like clairvoyance, it can also occur externally or internally, feeling as if it came from in your mind, like hearing a voice in your mind, or from outside of you as if you'd heard someone speak in front of you (it can vary of course, but this is the general example).
4: Clairempathy
This clairsense means "clear emotion". It has to do with gaining understanding through sensing emotion. This is often confused with clairsentience and both can be felt together as well. However, most tend to describe clairempathy as sensing emotion, while clairsentience, as we'll talk about next, is feeling sensations.
5: Clairsentience
This clairsense is connected to sensing feeling, physical feeling, and means "clear feeling". Clairsentience relates to physical sensation, and many also define this as feeling emotion, the empathic part of interacting with someone else, basically.
To give a better example and comparison of both clairsentience and clairempathy, would be that while you as a person, may feel your face get hot when you're angry, the understanding that there is rage would be tied to the clairempathy, and the face being hot and even the feeling of what rage feels like would be attached to clairsentience.
6: Clairtangency
This clairsense is connected to one's touch, and is described as "clear touch". Thus, clairtangency relates to sensing through touch, meaning you would gain understanding about an event, an object, a person, etc. when touching that object or person. This practice is also called psychometry.
To give a proper example of this, say you touched a necklace, then ended up knowing an event that happened surrounding the necklace, or information on the person that might've previously owned it. From experience, I can also say that you can have other clairsenses come into play in combination with this, as you may have a vision of an event, or feeling the event physically, or sensing the emotion attached to the object/person.
7: Clairsalience
This clairsense is tied to sensing through smell, and means "clear smelling". Clairsalience is fairly straightforward, alike to clairaudience, it basically relates to knowing through smelling, so you may end up smelling some random smell, like perfume or flowers, that can lead you to gaining understanding about something previously unknown.
In my experience, it has come up in various ways, I have gotten smells leading me to understand someone's aura, I've gotten odd smells for various spirits, I've had a beautiful smell of flowers in relation to the spiritual as well. At times, it has been in combination with other clairsenses as well.
8: Clairgustance
This clairsense means "clear tasting" and connects to tasting without there being anything physical in the mouth to lead to one having that taste sensation. Fairly straightforward as well, you'd end up gaining information/understanding as you have a certain taste in your mouth, very alike to the way clairsalience would work as well.

"When you let the tides of the moon's shadow wash over you, your cleansing begins, relief is on the way"
- Lucifer
The idea is when your shadow self shows through, the part of yourself you hate or want to push away, and the pain and emotion washes over you (Thus "the moon's shadow"), let yourself feel and accept it. It's a part of you, and only then can you be cleansed in this acceptance and you will feel relief
Since I just started this tumblr, I thought, that making a self-introduction would make more sense than any other post.
So let's get started into this:
Who am I?
I am Rose, a 32 y.o. german booksnail. I love my books, when I finally get to them, but I have tons of hobbies: photography, psychology, crocheting, knitting, painting, playing on my switch, learning languages, sleeping (yes, this is a passion of mine xD) and some other hobbies that are in my life quite intense for a short time, but then I loose track of it and forget about it.
Which leads me to: I am chaotic. And that is good, since I use this chaos inside me to listen to it and being intuitively guided within the (for this tumblr) most interesting part of my life: witchcraft.
This tumblr gonna be about my witchcraft journey. About what I have learned. About what I am trying to learn.
I am actively doing witchcraft since my mid- to late teens (I am not very sure where to put the line of active working). I had a very long break with diving into communities and I thought, that I also banished witchcraft out of my life within that time. Let me tell you: nope. Just because it feels natural, it is not not witchcraft.
I have been drawn to witchcraft since my childhood, but never dived deeper into that, as I was told that magic is not real. (Never by my mom, but by TV, society, etc. You know the drill. You do not need to mention it: people throw at you, that ghosts and magic are not real). So yeah, it took me quite a while. But I gonna do a seperate post on that ♡
I am working with The Morrigan and Lucifer. I won't be able to share everything I learn with them, but I can talk about a few parts of my journey, I guess.
And since I am very not good in self-introductions, feel free to ask me about more stuff ♡ I try to answer everything ♡
