How shit can one game become

The constant rolling disaster that is Overwatch's game development aside, what really perplexes me about how Blizzard is handing the broader franchise is their continual insistence that a canon narrative exists in spite of their equally continual refusal to tell anyone what it is.

Like, okay, the events of the games aren't canon. Fair enough: the games are multiplayer-only, and you can't account for player actions.

Oh, and the animated short films aren't canon either – they're properly understood as in-universe propaganda, not depictions of actual events. That's a little high concept for you guys, but fine.

But surely the comics are canon, right? Well, no; some of the comics (we're not telling you which ones) were canon at one point, but the writing team has decided to go in a different direction.

My dudes, what is left? The weird Source Filmmaker porn? Is that canon? Well, apparently it's at least as canon as anything else!

Like, you drop the most inescapably popular and influential shooter of an entire generation, with a cast overflowing with some of the most instantly iconic characters we've ever seen, that captures a fanbase which is so eager to learn about any aspect of these characters that they start willfully lapping up character trailers and ARGs as though those are good forms of storytelling for games in order to get just the vaguest taste of what this world offers,

And then proceed to single-handedly fumble the bag so bad that the primary legacy the game can claim to have is using that promise of a story to bait-and-switch it's fans into buying an incomplete sequel that was rushed into production because you punished a Hearthstone player for being pro-democracy, being the final needle to pop the e-sports speculator bubble there by financially draining nearly every competitive gaming scene to the brink of bankruptcy (at best), and having indirectly lead to advancements in 3D animation because your game effectively has it's own category on pornhub. Oh, also, you alienated the director of the game so hard that he leaves the company and seemingly retires from the entire gaming industry.

Only a room full of the most cynical and dollar horny suits imaginable could fuck this up so bad. I'm not even mad at this point. Just saddened on behalf of everyone on the dev team who actually gave a shit and embarrassed on behalf of the lootbox blinded execs who didn't.

Solaris Mercy 🌄 A crossover with my aasimar Valkariel’s Sun Court formal regalia and Overwatch Mercy. Also some sunrise/sunset chroma/color palettes for Solaris Mercy! From top left to bottom right, Gloaming, Sunrise, (Carat) Dawn, and Dusk.

Some background lore: the robes of the Sun Court consist of a feathery garment that wraps around the body over a color changing tunic and skirt. The cloth reacts to the wearer’s magic and changes color accordingly. In Valkariel’s case, her colors typically reflect the sky gradients when the sun rises and sets. Valkariel’s colors usually are the lighter pastel tones, but she never displays the gloaming palette unless she’s using the Radiant Soul skill. This Mercy skin uses the “gloaming” palette, when the sun has set, but the last of the ambient light still burns near the horizon.

This whole "No more pve" in overwatch got me so upset. This is the one thing that got me excited about overwatch, but this feels like a slap in the face. 5 years we were told there would be an overwatch pve, and now it's scraped. I would like to know how you feel about this?
