Hello! I don't mean to be a bother, but you're more or less the only person I follow who I've seen posting about Dark Heresy, and I'm curious if you know the answer to something: Did Owlcat change their minds about using GenAI for Dark Heresy? After Larian got slammed for using it in the next Divinity game, they said they were using it as "a development tool" for Dark Heresy.

I'm intrigued by what you've been posting about Dark Heresy, but I don't want to support the use of genAI, in even a small capacity. Because even when it's being used for concept art, that is the origin point of what ends up in the final game, and I don't want to support the elimination of concept artists as a career.
Thanks for answering! I love all of your art, especially the Rogue Trader stuff! I had never really put much thought into Calligos Winterscale as anything other than a genocidal asshole with slim possibilities for redemption until I saw your posts. You make him SO much more compelling than canon. š
So first off, Iām not a role model or public figure by any means, so what I say next I say as just a regular guy doing her best.
As far as Iām aware, Owlcat has not made any official statement since the ādevelopment toolā mention you linked above. I will say Iāve noticed that while they donāt seem shy about mentioning the use of it in the Expanse, they also donāt seem to talk about using it much for Dark Heresy? Maybe theyāve pulled back on itāespecially given Games Workshop has made a public statement banning AI in their products, so perhaps they stepped in. But that could just be wishful thinking/naivety on my part. If anyone knows otherwise, let me know!
Iām certainly not thrilled about the prospect of the concept art book available in the deluxe versions of the game potentially having genAI within and Iāve said this to Owlcat via multiple avenues available to me as someone who wants to support them otherwise.
At the end of the day I am anti-genAI because of its massive drain on resources as well as the creative theft itās built on and I take steps in my personal life to combat it in my community.
If supporting the game makes you uncomfortable, then follow your heart! My personal take is that everyone has their own line to draw in the sand against it because right now some social media is coded by it, some game devs are using it for art, some authors are using it to write and make art for their books, itās in cars and phones and movies and peopleās jobs. It is literally everywhere and I hate it to death and Iām doing the best I can while living in this hell world just like everyone else.
Thank you for the compliment about Calligos! I find him quite compelling personally even though a lot of people are very reductive about him. He means a lot to me and Iām glad I could give you a new perspective š
