so, i made a thing!!!
Iâve decided to do something Iâve wanted to do for a long time: combine the comic, blog posts, extras, and tweets from Check, Please! into one document, because Iâm crazy.
I read the main comic the night of The Sophomore Year Kissâą and went back to read the extras shortly after. Going back and reading the extras was a daunting task back in 2016, and itâs much harder today - thereâs so much stuff! Not to mention that Bittyâs Twitter was private by the time I started reading the comic, so I didnât see most of the tweets until Chirpbook was published. Plus, I struggle to find all the blog posts on the official site, and I am a blog post truther! Sophomore Year doesnât hit the same without the commentary! Nothing emotionally destroys me like: âThe secret to drawing a younger Jack is making him smile, the end. Hahaha, now weâre all sad.â Lastly, some of my friends love the comic and find both Tumblr and the official site hard to navigate, so I wanted to make this a resource for them so they donât miss out on all those delightful ask-a-wellies and sketch jams.
What I always wanted was to have that true multi-platform experience (comics, blogs, tweets, and extras) in order. With that, I present this slideshow.
The extras on these slides are ONLY things that (as far as I know) aren't available anywhere other than Tumblr/the website. Please buy the comic and also Chirpbook and Madison and the Huddles. Theyâre worth every penny!!!!!! (seriously please please please please this comic is so good you want to give Ngozi all of your money please please please you want to so bad subscribe to the patreon while you're at it)
Also, if you want to help with this project, think anything should be edited, or have ideas on how to make it more effective/better/fun, please let me know! I just love this comic so much!!! I have only done through the end of Year 2 right now.
OMG Check, Please! but itâs everything* i love being insane *only up until Year 3 is currently done
I think part of why nurseydex is so fun is like. theyâre both a) SO guarded. walls fucking UP with these two baby, and b) oblivious/repressed as hell!!! how can you be perceived when youâre a mystery even to yourself. check AND mate motherfucker. and in this context a big part of the threat they initially pose to each other is in their shared ability to cut through all of that; they can both almost unfailingly provoke an honest emotional reaction in each other, can jab barbs right past all those walls and false composure to the things they most want to pretend they donât care about. for both of them, the idea of being Seen to care about these things so much that theyâll react to it is terrifying. a reaction shows a weak spot, that this is a place where if you drive the knife in itâll really fucking hurt. and so to have someone up in your business who can both reliably press on those weak spots and does not seem to like you enough as a person to care whether it hurts is a Bad Time!!!
but of course, this is where the real fun part comes in - with time and effort they get to a point where they know each other well enough to better know that the other person does in fact care if it hurts, and when to ease off before it does. which means now theyâre stuck with someone who can bypass all their walls and protections the same as always, but who is doing their best to handle what they find there with care. this is still big and scary and makes dex want to bite nursey like a poorly trained dog, but in a way where theyâre kind of falling in love with each other? this will of course take them a million bajillion years to even internally accept bc. to be frank. just bc someone else can maybe see whatâs going on down there doesnât mean THEY wanna see whatâs going on down there. but itâs a bruise they canât stop pressing, a loose tooth they just canât leave alone; one thing about nurseydex is that they really can never leave well enough alone. and then they have really intense emotionally charged makeouts that they canât talk about without keeling over <333 YAY ROMANCE!!!
donât abandon joy because it is brief. donât commit to solitude because happiness is fleeting. itâs okay that good things do not last forever. itâs okay to simply enjoy a thing for as long as you have it.

If you're having a private phone conversation with the phone off your ear, no headphones, and the speaker on in public, that's a public conversation now. That's an open invite, and I'm going to chime in if I have an opinion. This is now OUR disagreement about your boyfriend's spending habits.
