Something I noticed about Della:
āI canāt stop it, the Emergency Launch is irreversible!ā Now you could say that Della knows this because she rebuilt the Spear herself, but something else struck me, what if she knows this because sheās flipped it herself and couldnāt stop it??
These pictures lead us to believe Della is stealing the Spear of Selene, but if you notice, Scrooge is in a spacesuit as well, not just Della. This lead me to believe, what If Della didnāt really mean to actually leave? What if she was only curious of the Spear and wanted to look around it?
Now that weāve seen Dellaās personality, I can totally see her running through the rocket and checking everything out before sitting in the cockpit, hands on the controls and pretending to soar through the atmosphere (complete with sound effects). Perhaps in her excitement, she flipped a switch, not realizing what it did?
In this pic we can see the button clearly marked āLAUNCHā. Are we really gonna say Della didnāt think āHey, letās see what this baby sounds like, Iāll just turn it off right after.ā Much like when we get a car and want to hear what it sounds like, but not necessarily start driving. To her horror, the launch sequence canāt be reversed, and once pressed she has no choice but to go into space. Did Scrooge run out to try and stop her?
In this next picture, she seems determined, like āHey, I wasnāt planning on going now, but man will I have a story to tell the kids! Itāll just be a quick test run through the atmosphere and Iāll come right back.ā
That didnāt happen. The cosmic storm happened. And when Scrooge finally radios in, her reaction is clear:
āUncle Scrooge!ā Iām so sorry, I didnāt mean to leave like that, I couldnāt stop!
Then in this image we see that the āLAUNCHā button has an added āEMERGENCYā written, as if sheās rewritten it when she built it, and it almost looks like she has has taped that cover over the switch and rewritten the button. Why would she go to such great lengths to protect that switch? What if she bumped into it and didnāt mean to flip it in the first place?
You can see it looks like the same placement as this one:
The three dials are to the left of it and there are other controls below them. Itās like sheās taking extra precautions to show that hey, you canāt reverse this, so only switch it once youāre ready.
In this scene when sheās talking to the boys, she says āIām so sorry for ever stepping foot on that rocket, I never meant to leave you.ā
This further implies that she never meant to actually initiate take off and leave the boys behind. Sure, she could have meant she didnāt mean to be stranded for 10 years, but the way sheās so upset at herself, almost like sheās upset she couldnāt hold back her own excitement when she climbed into the rocket.
