Weekend were the days when the most money could be made. Bachelor and bachelorette parties made their way in and out of bar, destroying the place in the process, but tipping better than most in their drunken joy. On weekends the bar was transformed into something closer to a club, with the tables and chairs being pushed to the sides of the rooms to clear a dance floor. Lights normally hidden in the giant overhead beams were lowered down and the entire facility was transformed. It was those nights that teenagers snuck in with their fake I.Ds, and college student blew off whatever homework they should be doing over the weekend in order to drink and dance through their nights, which caused them to sleep through their days.

It was the weekends when Kieren could make the most tips, it was true, but come monday, it felt less like work and more like an evening in a pub. The flashy lights and techno music where hidden away. A small platform was rolled out for any performers that might be entertaining for the night. The entire atmosphere became more intimate as the pace of the bar slowed. Kieren preferred these nights to the wild weekends. He liked how he could simply be a good bartender, who listened to fantastic tales, true or not, from the motley group of people who showed up. He didn’t have to flirt or put on a show, he could simply be friendly, do his job and that was enough. Drinks were simple, people were simple, and by the time he left he had a head full of more stories to catalog. Some were very informative about the law makers only a few miles down the road in D.C., others simply interesting. In either case, work left him energized, and not depleted on those nights.

Tonight was one of those nights, the last one before the weekend. A steady flow of customers had come in and out, though it never was what anyone could exactly call busy. He was just finishing up listening to a story of how the lawyer who sat across from him was certain his wife was banging his younger associate, when Kieren’s eye caught on a mane of red hair taking a seat further down. With a word of his condolences to the man, Kieren excused himself to make his way to the new customer. She was certainly new. He could remember every face that walked through those doors, and hers was one he had never seen before.

“Can I help you?” He asked, a small smile lifting his mouth.

Lounged upon the barstool with casual posture, a single arm resting on the polished counter, turquoise eyes danced about the people in the bar, studying the features of the building and its inhabitants with an inaudible, fox like smile. Along her forearm, reclined on the edge of the counter, smears of dried paint, taking many hues, ran about her sun kissed skin noticeably. Although, despite this, she seemed well put together- Her features sharp and fox like, the occasional freckle lining her nose, and her hair falling past her shoulders, red and vibrant, mirroring the appearance of fickle flames. She wore simple flannel, rolled to her elbow, a plain tank top and a pair of jeans- infrequently carrying small rips across faded blue denim.

At the sound of an unfamiliar voice did her attention turn toward the stranger, her posture altering so she could visibly see him, offering a long smile as sky eyes focused. "Just a Heineken beer, thanks."

Eliza couldn’t help but smile as she explained. “That sounds amazing, honestly.” she replied once the red head had finished speaking. “I’ve only ever lived in one other place, and I’ve traveled, but it’s only been with my family. Not as fun as you would expect.” she said, shrugging her shoulders.

"It was amazing! I made the most out of every day. Whether I was hungry, or had no place to sleep that night, you know what I did have? Nature, and life. Because when days felt long, I had the wind on my back, or when nights seemed endless, I had the stars to look at."

"Hm- Well I always travelled alone. Sometimes with a few friends but we usually split paths. I don't think I travelled with someone for longer than a year..."

The inferno haired artist always loved the piquancy of alcohol. The way a narrow bottle, or the rim of a wine glass shimmering with light, tipped upon the bridge of her peach lips. The way intoxication swirled about her head, although she, such a heavy weight drinker, hardly showed signals of a drunken state. In her travels, Ingrid drank a variety of wine with a variety of people. In truth, it was with a bottle in her hand did she feel alive, quite the deluded state of mind, but a habit that chained itself upon her sun kissed limbs.

So, of course, if she were to live in this new town, it was a prime necessity to visit the bar. And that, she did.

It was a windy night, and a starless one at that. The sky seemed barren, usual specks of light hidden behind grey clouds resembling shadows. It was a short walk from her new home did she reach the bar, opening the door as she stepped in, and letting it close shut behind steps.

Sleeves rolled up to reveal paint along her forearms, her callused hands rested in her flannel coat pockets, thin heels of combat boots clicking rhythmically as she walked across the bar. She sat upon a barstool stool, close to the counter, turquoise eyes trailing about the people in the bar, her posture relaxed, casual.

"That’s quite the compliment to give someone you’ve just met!" Eliza replied with a smile. "I appreciate that. I try to be as responsible as possible." she added with a shrug. "Your first home? So you didn’t grow up anywhere specific?" she questioned, curious now about this young woman’s past.

She continued to draw the girl, now beginning to enunciate the darker of lines, bedding over the light sketches she had begun with. "Well..." Her eyes remained on the paper for a few lasting moments as she finished the small part of the drawing she was on- Before glancing back up at her new acquaintance to answer her string of questions.

"I didn't really grow up anywhere specific, from what I can remember. I've been traveling all my life. Staying in towns for little times, hopping on trains, hitchhiking." She grinned, not hesitant or embarrassed of her truthful words. "I'm an... Adventurer, I think."

"Consistency, exactly!" Eliza agreed, smiling brightly. "That’s exactly what I was trying to say. Thank you." She chuckled softly, relaxing a bit more as the conversation continued.

"Yeah, I’m living in an apartment building around the corner. Just a small one bedroom, but it’s all I need." she said, shrugging halfheartedly. "Really? Where’d you come here from, if you don’t mind my asking?"

"That sounds nice. And it must be wonderful to have a job in the same town- It seems like you handle yourself really well, if that makes sense..." Her eyes trailed upward in thought, as if attempting to find the correct phrase. "You seem responsible, that's the word." Eyes of turquoise flickered back down towards the sketchpad as she continued to draw, only but a gesture sketch so far done, a rough sketch of placement.

"Hmm... Where am I from? ♪" The fiery haired woman offered the question to herself in a truthful tone, before glimpsing up at the woman with a thoughtful beam. "Everywhere, and nowhere."

"This is actually my first home."

Eliza laughed and nodded, considering the concept. “I would never know what to call myself, honestly. I think we’re always developing and changing as people, so choosing our own names would be difficult and constantly changing.” she replied, having thought about this on the many occasions where she considered a legal name swap. She lit up when the girl asked if she liked being away from home. “It’s incredible. A fresh start, new people, making my own decisions. I mean, it’s absolutely terrifying, but it’s supposed to be, right?” she continued thoughtfully. It was so nice to have someone to talk to.

Her eyes flickered several times in thought, lips somewhat parting as she pondered, before nodding in agreement. "That's a good point! I guess a bit of consistency is needed."

"It is supposed to be, yeah! I guess if it's your first time from home, then it would be, I can imagine. I suspect you're living by yourself now? That must be an odd change! It seems like you have a positive view on it, though, which is good." Her eyes returned to the paper, bringing up her stray hand to string back her hair from her sun kissed face, speaking once more. "I'm new here, too."

Eliza couldn’t help but laugh. “Ingrid it is, then.” she agreed, smiling brightly. “It’s a beautiful name. I always wanted to be named something more unique than Elizabeth. I guess that’s how the nickname came about.” she explained easily, feeling at ease with Ingrid. Eliza watched her draw for a moment, noticing the effortless way that her pencil moved across the page. She couldn’t wait to see the finished product, based on the rest of her work. “Not very long at all. It’s my first time away from home, actually.”

"Thank you ♪," she spoke with a nod and a kind grin, long upon her fox like features, listening to the woman's explanation with an understanding demeanor as she did. "I understand that completely. Names are an odd concept, they're given to you before you develop as a person. Wouldn't it be different if we chose our own names at an older age? I always thought that would be an interesting notion." She shrugged. "Both Eliza and Elizabeth are lovely."

"You're first way away from home?" Her eyes lit up in excitement for the woman, lips parting in a jubilant manner. The artist's hand continued to draw as she glanced up on the occasion to speak, or quickly study a facial feature of the woman. "That's so exciting! Do you like being away from home?"

Eliza saw no issue in taking a seat, since it’s what she would have been doing if the red head hadn’t come inside anyway. She watched her get prepared and couldn’t help but admire the glimpses of sketches in the book as she flipped through the pages. “It is pretty amazing, isn’t it? People always surprise you.” she agreed, smiling. The woman had an infectious sort of carefree spirit that Eliza quite enjoyed. Eliza relaxed as she began to ask questions, smiling. “My name is Elizabeth,” she said, but then shook her head. “I much prefer to be called Eliza, though. What about yours?”

"Mhm! And it's the surprise that makes everything interesting, don't you think?" Her grip held the pencil so steadily, easily, so effortlessly, as if dangling in the loose grip of her fingers. It was just as easy for Ingrid to speak to a stranger as it was to hold a pencil; It came easy, and held no stress upon her relaxed demeanor. People are always strangers before they meet, after all. At one point in time, everyone had to be a stranger to one another.

"Eliza..." The red haired woman nodded to herself, slight girls bouncing through her movements. In truth, she would forget the name in a matter of days, but hopefully be able to recognize her facial features if they ever crossed paths once more. "Well it's nice to meet you, Eliza. My name is Ingrid." A playful smile took hold of her features, releasing a friendly laugh: "I prefer to be called Ingrid though. ♪"

Her eyes strayed to the blank sheet of paper, and with one look at the blonde haired girl, she began to draw, motions quick and effortless. "How long have you been leaving here, Eliza?"

Eliza smiled, and then shrugged her shoulders as the girl hesitated to order. “Take your time!” she assured her, waving off her apologies. “We have basically everything you can think to get in coffee form, so your options vary. You can’t rush a decision like that.” Her jaw dropped slightly in shock at the question; no one had ever asked to draw her before. “I… Well, I suppose so! How could I turn down a request like that?” she replied, laughing and shaking her head. “I have to say, that wasn’t what I was expecting when you walked in.” she added, sticking the order pad in the front of her apron.

Her grin widened at the woman's response, gesturing her to sit down in the chair directly across from her, before reaching down to open her bag. It's contents were few: Her camera, a few different sorts of pencils, a sketchpad, and a small collection of photos tied together carefully. Ingrid produced the sketchpad and a single pencil before closing it, readjusting her posture to look at the woman once again, smiling at her statement. "Isn't that wonderful? I think that's what I love about meeting people, you never know who they could be." A laugh escaped her lips once more. "Who knows? Perhaps they'd ask you to draw them without any warning, or perhaps they'd order a coffee as expected."

Ingrid placed the sketch pad flat on the table, opening it and flipping to a clean sheet- As drawings buzzed by they were detailed, as if photographs pasted on paper, though she flipped past them quickly like a film. As she opened to a clean sheet, she looked up at the woman, nodding in a friendly manner. "Don't worry about staying still, I'd actually prefer if you talked. What's your name?"

New Faces [Ingrid&Eliza]

The coffee shop had a drop in customers for the time being, afford Eliza a few minutes for a break. She was sipping a latte she’d made herself and wiping down the counters, enjoying the quiet hum of the espresso machine and the soft music coming from the speaks in the corners. The atmosphere of the building was probably Eliza’s favorite part of her job. When the bell rang, announcing the arrival of a customer and ending her peace, Eliza dropped her towel and hopped down from the bar stool. The red head had seated herself in the corner and Eliza hurried over, order pad in hand. “Hey there,” she said brightly, smiling. “What can I get for you today?”
