Special Recs of the Day : Happy pride month !

Hello !

As you guessed with the title, today we're going to talk about fics where the characters queer identity play a more important role in the story. (At least a bit, because otherwise, I could put almost any good omens fic here, really.)

To begin this post let's explore some fics about realising something about yourself.

First, I would recommend It's wrong until it's right by Burdened_Titan. I talk about it a bit more here but to summarise Crowley discover that they might not feel like a man all the time, and try to navigate this new knowledge about themselves.

To continue in the gender discovery, I find Our Souls Are Meant To Shine by BlackUnicorn absolutely beautiful in it's simplicity and the depiction of a casual life. Aziraphale discover late in life that he might be a man actually. It was really interesting to follow a character that had a already pretty settled life through this realisation about themselves, and I can only recommend it. (I talk more about it here if you want.)

Then, I would like to talk about Demon and Angel Professors by Ghostinthehouse, that I already talked about here. I put this one here for the myriad of characters gravitating around Aziraphale and Crowley with various identities that try to just be happy in this world.

Then I would like to put here a different kind of relationship than the commonly depicted romantics one with A Lunch on the Horizon by Inherently_human. It's a really nice and sweet story where Aziraphale and Crowley (both aroace here) meet and develop a deep relationship. (And I talk about it a bit more here.)

Would like to also put here Changing of the Seasons by AppleSeeds as a quite great ace fic. It take place during the covid, with Aziraphale trying to do something different during this time, and joining a virtual event lead by Crowley. I talk about it more in details here, but it's really sweet.

For a fic more within the canon of good omens, I would like to mention again Around the World in 80 Cakes by cookie_full_of_arsenic, as much for it's interesting structure as much as what it tell. Each chapter offer a different scene around a cake, and what a more queerplatonic relationship might feel like for the canon version of Aziraphale and Crowley. (And I already talked about it here !)

I would also like to put here Guardian Angel: The Hot-line by ItsScottiesStark for the important reminder of the reality of queer people, and especially queer youth. The world can be a harsh place, but there's still hope. This fic is otherwise really sweet and I can talk about it here.

There's still a lot of fics that could go there. Quite a lot really, but I'll stop here for today. All in all, I might have missed a lot of them, even in the ones I read, so don't hesitate to share your favorites that you think are must read.

I really didn't see the beginning of the year pass, and here we are, already in June. I hope the world treat you kindly as the summer come., and I'll leave you here for now.

Aziraphale was nervous. Not just nervous, actually, but anxious. Really, incredibly anxious. But, well, that was rather the whole point of it all. He was thirty minutes early to his 11 o’clock appointment and was pacing up and down the street. His head was pounding from built-up tension and his hands were fidgeting uncontrollably. He had his first therapy session today, and thoughts were racing through his head at supersonic speed. What if, unlike at the doctor’s, there was no waiting room? What if, if there was, it was weird that he sat there for an entire half an hour before his appointment? Would other people be waiting? Would they think him strange for being that early? But they couldn’t even possibly know that he was early if they were being called away for their own appointments, could they? He hoped the therapist was nice. She had sounded nice when they had talked on the phone. What if she was faking it, though? It was just her job, after all. Maybe Aziraphale was overestimating his need for help. Maybe he was taking up one of their precious spots while someone else needed it more than him. What if he was being selfish?

“Our books. And I beg to differ. This one has your scent all over it, demon.”

“Does it now?”

“Yes, it does! It smells like soil, and fragrant gardens, and sunlight on a cold winter’s day, and—”

Crowley’s breath was hot on his neck. “Open the book, angel.”

Rec of the day : A Lunch on the Horizon

Hello !

Today we're talking about A Lunch on the Horizon by Inherently_human.

In this fic, we follow Aziraphale and Crowley after they meet one day by hazard, and their developing relationship as time pass.

I really liked how this fic paint their interactions and the way they get closer to each other step by step. They meet one day after Aziraphale first therapy session, and just grow closer from here.

This fic is mostly fluff, but there is still a bit of angst as they are both dealing with some mental health issues, and going to therapy for it.

I really liked how their relationship was depicted as something really important and meaningful for both of them. The story felt grounded in everyday life, following simple events that just made the evolution of their relationship feel really organic.

Overall, this fic feel like a warm hug to me. Like things could be fine even if sometimes there is bad days and dire situations.

In addition, it was really nice to read a story about two aroace characters just living their life.
