I had a choice: I could either let the darkness of the world swallow me, or I could do what I could to help make the world a little bit brighter.
—Haruki Murakami , Kafka on the Shore

i don't know who needs to hear this, but guilt, self-hatred and shame are not sustainable sources of growth and healing. you can't hate yourself into feeling better, or being better. you can't repeatedly punish yourself for your flawed humanity and expect wholesome results.
May the pain in our chest be replaced with something beautiful.
resilience is not sustainable we are not supposed to endure life we are supposed to live it
fuckkk my body for keeping the score
Did you know I've been running an anonymous voicemail box project since 2020? You can dial 503-673-6267 any old time to listen to a short pre-recorded prompt and record your own reply (up to 3 minutes). I listen to all of them. They don't go anywhere else. That's it. That's the project.
Social media platforms incentivize reaching larger and larger numbers of people, but often leave us feeling unfulfilled by the quality of attention we receive. I wanted to see what would happen if I invited people to share things with the understanding that they would only ever have an audience of one, but that one person was guaranteed to listen to them with undivided attention.
It's been a lovely backdrop to the last four years, and I'm grateful for every message I've gotten to witness. If you want a reliable notification system for when new prompts go up (used to be every two weeks, but these days it's more like every 6-8 months), there's a single-purpose newsletter for that.
Catch you in the voicemail box.
I can assure you it is extremely real
You’re neat. I like you.
puts you in inventory
Whenever I fail at something it's almost always because I went in with no clear or realistic plan and once I realise I bit off more than I could chew, I just keep going until the failure to achieve the original goal turns out to produce something completely different, but still somewhat worthwhile. Yeah it's a lot more work than simply Not Doing That, and yeah it's gonna hurt, but the success rate is still marginally high enough that I just keep doing it.
