i've always wondered what human speech would look like visually in the POV of eridians in the same way eridian speech is written as music notes in the book and my favorite version of it i've seen in fics is when words are written as phonetics in rocky's POV :-) oh and also that one post about rocky and grace figuring out random words they can say in the other's language

I might be the only one who finds this interesting, but…

Lots of companies have Room Temperature Rooms? Like, literally any company whose products have an expiry date has to have ( or outsorce) a Room Temp Room in their R&D department. Else how would you know that this great new toothpaste flavor doesn’t accidentally turn into poison in two years.

But you can’t just have ONE RTR. Because what if you sell your toothpaste in Antarctica? Or the Amazon? What if the toothpaste turns evil when frozen? Or melts? Or gets dropped 500 feet off the back of a truck in the Himalayas?

So picture, if you will, a wing of an R&D department full of little rooms, each set to a certain temperature and humidity, each with a rack of toothpaste. Every year or so, a scientist comes in an takes out a tube, and does SCIENCE to make sure it won’t kill someone. Or look gross, or taste weird. Or explode. A lot of toothpaste explodes if, for example, you pretend you flew it across the artic circle (froze) then dropped if off in an Indian street market (melt), then sat in someone’s cabinet for three years (at Room Temperature).

And that’s how they make expiry dates. And why developing a new flavor of toothpaste can take ten years.

The Eridian science teams try soooo hard to be soooo normal about Grace. "He helped save our entire planet, we cant experiment on him!" "Hes a whole ass intelligent being, the biodome isnt like a zoo enclosure at all we swear." "Rocky might actually kill us if we try and add enrichment things to the biodome just to see what happens. one of the many things that the PHM movie gets right as an adaptation that a lot of movies don’t is that it understands that movies and books are different mediums that tell stories in different ways. There are things in movies that just can’t work in books, and vice versa.

The PHM book and movie are both good for different reasons. Theyre the same story, but the movie truly feels like a creature of its own, it feels like a movie telling a story, not like a retelling of a book that told a story. The microcosm of this is the karaoke scene in the movie. It’s quite possibly one of my favorite parts of the movie, and it has no analogue in the book. It was created for the movie because movies are audio/visual storytelling. The book leans into the plot, the science, the characters. Things a book can portray very well. However, the movie isn’t as scientifically dense, and instead leans into the visual grandeur and spectacle, the music, color language.

in conclusion, Project Hail Mary book and movie both very good 👎👎👎
