For Cruel and Unusual medical ideas, MRI machines scan the body using catastrophically high powered magnets, and anything metal in or on someone while they're in there will either 1) be violently pulled to the machine or 2) start heating up to dangerous levels. An MRI like scanner could be an interesting idea, but I feel like I'd have to modify it to be less lethal, having metal in you body while having an MRI is definitely... not survivable lol. Instead, maybe whatever waves are being used to scan the pregnancy really irritate the young inside his belly, causing them to thrash and kick wildly while he's being scanned. He's screaming in pain and begging to be let out of the machine before the creatures burst their way out of his swollen tummy to escape the scanner.
