☔✨A CroakJoke Fic (Kaufmo X Ribbit)

summary: When Caine is working on an adventure, Ribbit chooses the worse time to finally come out of her room... Into a literal hurricane. Kaufmo goes looking for her to find she needs some comfort through her own storm!

a/n: the start of the rainy day fic is finally out~ the weather has been pretty bad in my area for the past few weeks and I wanted to just write something cozy, ad this is what I got lol

“Wait, so she’s out there in the middle of a hurricane!? Why would she-” Kaufmo turned his head back to the scene outside. What was she THINKING!?

“It wasn’t really this bad when I first started, it was more of a near drizzle…”

“So you increased it more while they were out there!” 

“Well, I didn’t think it was that urgent. I thought it would give a more human experience if I upped the stakes, humans live through this all the time-”

“Oh no, Caine-” Ragatha murmured.

“Humans also die in real life from things like this,s Caine!”

“Well, luckily we can’t die~” Kaufmo, Rags, and Kinger turned their head to the voice being them, to see Jax with dilated pupils, not giving too much of a reaction about the information that they were given. The weight of the clowns and ragdolls' glare caused him to respond. “What~ ?”

“Not the time for your sick jokes, Jax,” Kaufmo grumbled.

“It’s not a joke, it's a fact! And why are you so worked up about this in the first place? The frog has free will, like the rest of us!You're getting your ruffles in a twist for-”

“You don’t think it’s the slightest bit concerning that someone who we haven’t seen outside their room for the past 3 weeks, for some reason, decides to go out in the worst weather imaginable right now.” 

“As I said before, Kaufee~, the frog has free will. Or is your clown-shaped balloon brain too small to understand that?”

Okey I actually have a question

What got you into shipping CroakJoke? Not that I hate the ship cuz I do think it's cute, though it did got me curious ( I love ur content btw :DDD)

I kinda went into it here, but I don't mind going into more detail lol.

The ship was supposed to be a way I kinda took Ribbit out of Jax's shadow. Because my hot take (no really) on the show is that the two characters who were Jax's friends are kinda treated like plot points rather than characters. I never really saw people play around with their personalities or who they COULD have been without just. So I kinda just messed around with Kaufmo and Ribbit like dolls lol. (this is right after ep 6 came out btw, like the literal week after)

I remember I was trying to learn how to draw both of them (which, when I tell you... was hell on a plate, may I add). I was thinking about how their personalities would be and how they would clash and such... and then the question in my head came up...

"What if they kissed?"

This was my first drawing! And it's just... downhill from there🥲

I had tried to find anything ANYTHING croakjoke related, and I found NOTHING. The ship was dry as a desert... so I did something about that. I just spread my drawings and ideas around on Tumblr, and from that, an amazing small community was built, and I will forever be grateful for that!

I remember that there was this ask about croakjoke being healthier than bunnydoll, and I rannnnnnnn with that idea during episodes 7 and 8 (bunnydoll has been my #1 ship since day one of the show). I remember thinking Ribbit was the goofball with a heart and Kaufmo just a nervous nerd before ep 9. And it just had me kicking my feet!

And when I tell you how I LITERALLY shook my friend like crazy next to me when I saw both of them joke, I was like AHHHHHHHHHHHHH. The joy I felt in the moment. And It's just stuck with me ever since.

I've gained followers through this ship

I've gained amazing, sweet, and kind moots

Heck, you guys even gave me a crown... I think..?

And I couldn't be more grateful lol.

So, to answer your question, what got me into croakjoke? (because I am rambling) I wanted more people to see the potential that I saw in these two characters. I wanted to see the fluff and the angst people could bring to this ship. In short, I wanted to build a community because there wasn't one, and I wanted to share it with others🩷... and also because I wanted Kaufmo and Ribbit to take the spotlight from that stupid rabbit...

(Also, yes, I am taking my time with my responses, so if you haven't seen yours yet, I'm working on it lol! For now, just send me some chatty asks! I still don't mind responding to you guys about any and everything)

For doodle ideas, how about an awkward CroakedJokes/Bunnydoll double date? Only it's Ragatha/Kaufmo with Jax/Ribbit! The former assumed the latter are already dating and are kinda trying to rebound with each other while Jax and Ribbit are trying to mask their anger/heartbreak.

One of the best headcanons is that Rags and Kaufmo think that Ribbit and Jax are dating, and to move on, they're just like, maybe we should give that a try~

The heartbreak... that the rabbit and the frog will feel! For Jax... I like seeing her suffer from Ragatha just existing, so this was already my cup of tea. But when I tell you the HEARTBREAK Ribbit is going to feel is just the twisted thing my angsty heart needs! Just look at that face, look at the singular tear in her eye, just ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, poor Ribbit, little does she know that it's just a misunderstanding.

This is honestly a really good fic idea!

I actually talked about my evil croakjoke headcanons here, and now that we've seen how they, I really haven't changed my opinion on how each one would act. Ribbit is a dickbag, and Kaufmo is a wanna be super villian with a stick up his ass✨

Anyways~ This is the croak joke fic I'm currently writing right now, was SUPPOSE to be a one shot but might turn into maybe 3-5 chapter fic. It's been pretty rainy for the past few days and I wanted to write a fic where the weather shifts (something like weather with you, man i love that movie).

I've always had these concepts of a light rainy morning and Kaufmo finding Ribbit sitting by the lake. (line with a hook by Ricky Montgomery mood)

But I'm trying to get back into my croakjoke mood and I feel like this was a perfect way to start, the first chapter will be up withing the next two days hopefully!
