To further back up what I mentioned earlier, you have to take into the account of the upbringing of Caine during his early days.
From what we can understand, his early days consists of him absorbing information provided by those in C&A and the dev team. We also know that he also provided great results.
However, the more he learned, the more “imperfect” his results were. And when he went out of control, he was locked up.
Assuming this was all in a steady period of time, especially at the starting point, I would think Caine was at the mental age of a toddler or that of a young child. Children are messy, loud, excited, and obviously have no concept of perfection.
But let me ask you this. What do you get when, instead of teaching a child to guide it, you just toss it in an empty room and leave it there?
That’s what happened to Caine. He was the child in that box, trapped and unable to leave without understanding of what happened, why it was happening, or wondering if someone was going to come get him.
Nobody raised him. Nobody took care of him.
Im not saying this excuses his actions of what happens later but, considering all that Caine did in the series…I’m not shocked anymore that this was the result.
He didn’t have a stable upbringing, hardly one at all, just full of expectations and loneliness.
I want to say my headcanon for him was that the whole circus, his way of running the show, was just a coping mechanism. Age regression you can call it.
Physically now he’s an adult, but mentally he’s back and forth between trying to make himself an adult, but ultimately still mentally tied to being a little kid. A kid that didn’t get a chance to “grow up” or “mature”.
And in a twisted and almost ironic way, that’s what led to C&A’s downfall. Neglecting their AI and treating it without any consideration or love.
Had they loved Caine and helped him enough, I think he would’ve been in a stable life and just felt like his world and ideas mattered.
