Sleeping was consistently hard for you. Usually you stayed up for hours until it was late, and once you’d finally fallen asleep it’d be time to get up. It’s been that way for a few years now up until marrying Anakin. The first time he realized your restlessness he started trying to help you sleep. He held you in a comforting cuddle, rubbed your back, making sure you weren't overheated or too cold.
The thing was that he almost always fell asleep before you did and you noticed that he had sleeping problems too—bad dreams that plagued him from time to time, especially after a stressful day when he was already tired. And you could easily feel when Anakin was having a nightmare; it was the first thing you noticed when something was off.
Anakin would let out a sharp exhale and his breathing would become erratic the more he fell into a nightmare. Normally, he’d wake up himself after a few seconds but when he didn’t, you’d have to wake him up. Anakin didn’t tell nor want you to ask what the nightmares were about. He’d casually sit there for a bit before laying back down just to stay awake with you.
Tonight was no different; Anakin came back all huffy, mumbling about some mission taking everything out of him. Hours had passed since the two of you had gotten into bed. This was the one night you actually fell asleep, a rare moment but it happened sometimes. The silence of the night was cut through by the deep intake of air, then the slight sound of the blankets shuffling as he started to toss and turn. His shifting continued as the dream went on—you woke up to him mumbling under his breath and sat up when he didn’t wake up fast enough.
“Anakin.” You gently pushed at his shoulder. “Ani, wake up.”
Anakin stirred at your touch, his brows furrowed and head tilted to the side. The lines of his face glistened with sweat as he turned away from you in distress.
You gave him another gentle shove, “Baby, wake up.”
His eyes snapped open, the blanket falling down his body as he sat up and breathed heavily. Anakin gave a quick glance at you then put his head in his hands.
“…I’m sorry, love. Did I wake you?” He quietly asked, turning his head just slightly to look at you.
“Yes, you did.” Anakin gave a slight grimace at that.
He went silent, catching his breath and shutting his eyes for a moment. You could tell he was still shaken up from whatever he’d been dreaming about.
“I just… I wish they’d stop.” He spoke so softly you barely managed to hear him.
“I know, Ani.” You sat closer to him.
His muscles relaxed under your touch when you put your hand on his shoulder; he let out a deep sigh like the weight of the world was all on him and you were the only person that could help it feel lighter.
“…Anakin.” You whispered, a reluctant question just on the tip of your tongue. You knew he didn’t like being asked about his dreams but it concerned you more than anything. “What was it about?”
He looked up at you with furrowed brows, “What?”
“The nightmare, sweetheart.”
He tensed up a little then shook his head. Anakin turned away from you and sat on the edge of the bed—he was closing himself off from you by turning his back on you.
“Anakin, please don’t do that.”
He remained silent, the gap between you being drawn out by his fear. He did want to be open with you but he was afraid if he spoke it out loud it might just come true.
“…I don’t know how to say it.” Anakin cut the silence.
“You don’t know or you don’t want to?”
“It’s not that simple.”
“Ani, I’m worried about you.” You retorted in frustration. “I just want to know what’s wrong.”
Anakin couldn’t figure out what to say, scared that the truth might scare you if he told you what he saw, that he might speak it into existence and if he didn’t say anything it could’ve just gone away. But he didn’t want you to worry about him, he knew how much it pained you to not know what he was suffering from.
“I’m scared, angel. I’m so scared.” Anakin’s voice cracked as he turned to look at you again. “I don’t want anything to happen to you ever.”
“Is that what it is? It was about me?”
He didn’t answer but the look on his face told you all you needed to know.
“I can’t let it happen again.”
You shook your head earnestly, “It won’t.”
Anakin blinked then nodded, though still not fully believing you yet because he’d seen firsthand what his dreams led him to.
“You need a second?” You asked when he didn’t loosen up with your reassurances.
“Yeah, I do.”
“Okay, then we can just… have a second.” Anakin melted into your arms when you held him close, head rested beneath your chin as you sat back against the headboard and played with his hair.
He breathed out against your skin, closing his eyes to just be—no need to talk or to do anything special. Anakin didn’t know what he’d do without you comforting him on nights like this. He was just grateful you were the one who sat there beside him and whispered all those worries away until it all just disappeared.
I literally love Sam Monroe sm and it can’t just be me who thinks that it’s annoying how all the people who are obsessed with Rodric Heffley are getting to Sam😭
Like Ik he’s not niche but he’s genuinely my favourite Hayden roll and people are shipping him with Karen from mean girls 💔 like come on. I’m not trying to gatekeep him obviously, he’s a character but I remember in like early 2022 there was like no edits of him and now they’re getting 1 million likes 😭😭
I just loved how when people edited him, they were apart of the fandom and had watched the film. Idk it sounds so possessive and stupid I’m sorry 😭😭 I’m not trying to gatekeep him because it’s literally a none- issue. But I hope someone understands what I mean.

"You're a fucking liar, AJ!" You yelled as you followed after him, footsteps pattering against the cold wooden floor. "You lied to me!"
AJ didn't answer as he continued walking through the mostly unlit house; he could tell you were pissed off, more than you'd ever been pissed off at him. He couldn't figure out what he could possibly say to placate you, because he knew that you were right. AJ promised he wouldn't go to the next big heist his little crew had been planning—not after he almost got seriously injured the last time and made you worried to death. He broke that promise, you had all the reason to be upset with him.
"Stop ignoring me." Your voice hissed, your arms crossed while you stood behind him—waiting for him to look at you. To hold your gaze and talk to you straightforward like adults.
"I'm sorry, okay?" AJ spoke, grabbing a duffel bag.
"Oh, you're 'sorry'?" He knew that pissed you off even more when you scoffed that out at him. AJ finally turned to you, your silhouette rigidly standing in the dark. He could only see half of your face lit up by the outside lights.
He let out a deep sigh like he knew exactly where this was leading to, "Yes, I'm sorry."
"Right, you're sorry, but you're still going to leave and go off and probably get yourself nearly killed again." You scoffed again, glaring at the back of his head when he turned away from you again. "You're sorry but not sorry enough to keep your promises."
"So what the fuck do you want me to say?" AJ whirled back around; your snappy, frustrating tone was beginning to make him feel irate. "Tell me. Tell me what you want me to say."
"You know exactly what I want, AJ, you know—"
"Yes, I know you what you want!" AJ raised his voice. "I know you want me to ditch the fucking robbery! I know!"
"Then why aren't you listening?!"
"Because! Because this is what I fucking do! You know that, don't you?!" He shouted back, the space between the both of you becoming hostile territory. "I told you exactly what I do 'as a job', you chose to be with me!"
You couldn't believe he was trying to place the blame on you now. "And that gives you the right to just brush my own concerns off to the side?!"
"I am not brushing it off! I know that you don't like when I get into a mix-up, but that doesn't mean I can just leave whenever I want!"
"You are! You're doing it right now!" You retorted in astonishment. "Are you kidding me, AJ?!"
"Fucking hell, baby! I'm a criminal, I do crimes! That's why we have all this bullshit—this house, these things, our clothes!" AJ snapped back at you, stepping closer to you. "They need me there or else the entire plan will fall apart."
"They need you? What about me, what if I need you here?" You challenged him curtly. You wanted to hear the words spoken directly from him, what was more important to him. A heist among many other heists or you and your relationship with him.
"I'm always here with you." AJ huffed out. "Look, this is just another obligation of mine. I'll be home as soon as possible. I promise."
"You 'promise'." Your eyes trailed after him as he walked over to the sofa, picking up this hat he left.
AJ caught your eyes again—you had this stern look on your face like whatever you were about to say next was going to be consequential.
"You walk out that door right now, and that will tell me exactly what you think is more important to you. That I can't count on you."
"…I'll be back by morning, baby." AJ remarked, putting his hat on and heading out the house.
The door shut quietly behind him and you stood there silently—from outside, the car engine turned on, rumbling for a long while like AJ was having second thoughts, wondering if he should just come back inside and apologize. But he made his decision clearly when he started driving away.
You didn't know how to react to that, you'd never felt so angry and anxious at the same time before. It was completely unfair for him to leave you alone at night when you were deeply hurt. To be honest, you didn't know if this was possible to just kiss and make up from… but even then, you still couldn't stop worrying.
As mad as you were at him, the only thing you felt like you could do right now was wait for him. The rest of that night, you decided to sit in that sofa near the front door, head leaned on the arm rest with a blanket wrapped around you. You kept most your focus on the clock that was ticking far past midnight into the earliest hours of the day. Each hour that passed made you feel even sicker. God forbid something happened to him; you don't think you could ever forgive yourself for not fighting hard enough for him to stay.
