The Luck of the Irish
When it comes to our health we must not leave anything up to luck. We must take committed action to achieve the results we desire. Over the weekend Team Innate participated in the 5K portion of the Pasadena Triathlon. Watching the triathletes at the peak of their performance was awe inspiring. It also reminded us that their level of physical success was no accident. They didn’t just show up and hope for good luck in completing the race. They have trained for countless hours to get ready for such a physically demanding event.
We, as healthy individuals get to take action to ensure that we stay healthy for a lifetime. We all know what activities can lead us down the road to bad health. And incidentally, those activities are typically the easier ones to do. Likewise we also know what behaviors will keep us healthy, and yes sometimes they require some discipline. The great part is that as a reward for engaging in healthy behavior you receive unlimited health benefits.
Take an active role in your health by maintaining a healthy nervous system; it controls your entire body. Every cell, tissue, and organ is in the nervous system’s control. If it’s unhealthy, you’re unhealthy. If regular chiropractic care for your nervous system is already a part of your healthy lifestyle, then pay it forward. Tell your loved ones how you have benefited from taking committed action to keep your body healthy for years to come. Chiropractic care can be the one thing they haven’t tried in order to achieve the health they deserve.

Tip of the Week: Get Your Learn On!
One of the major lessons that we drilled into my brain in high school was that we need to be lifelong learners. This didn't mean a whole lot to me as a high schooler, but Dr. Adana and I have really embraced that idea. This past weekend we attended our favorite seminar of the year! We plan it into our yearly calendars because we get a tremendous amount of value out of it. We learn new ways to refine our chiropractic technique, more effective ways to communicate the message of true health and how to ensure that you get the best experience possible when you walk through our doors. All in all we get really fired up about what we do and how chiropractic helps to change people's lives! While we don't expect you to start attending chiropractic seminars, we recommend that you find ways to adopt the idea of being a lifelong learner. Whether its attending seminars related to your field of work, finding good books that feed your passion or coming together in community with your co-workers to expand your knowledge of what you do. These simple things can help you to add the flavor back into your life. Feel free to ask us any questions about this concept. We'd be glad to be of support to you! In Health, Dr. Chris & Dr. Adana PS: You have ONE more day to RSVP for our Tuesday night talk What Every Woman Should Know About Health. CALL TODAY!
Tip of the Week: Women Rock!
Think of the powerful women in your life and imagine what life would have been like without them. They undoubtedly left a huge impact in your life and you will be forever grateful. That’s why we believe very simply that women rock!
Because we all have important women in our lives we get to ensure that they are given special care in terms of their health. Women make sure that we are all healthy and performing at our best, but they sometimes sacrifice their own health and well-being. We’d like to give them an opportunity to learn how they can take better care of themselves. The reason?.....well because they deserve it.
On February 28th we will be delivering an informative talk called, “What Every Woman Should Know About Health”. We will be covering various topics, including breast cancer, menopause and fatigue. We will discuss some of the myths surrounding these health concerns, and providing tips that you can take action on to live free of them.
Cancer rates alone have skyrocketed over the last few decades and they don’t seem to be declining anytime soon. We have the greatest medical technology in the world yet in many cases the best solutions for cancer can be grown in your garden. Women are chronically fatigued and prescribed all kinds of medications to give them a boost or change their hormones, yet by eating the right foods and clearing their nervous system they can completely change their energy levels.
We invite you to join us on February 28th at 7:00 PM and please bring a guest. The more women that become empowered by this information the better off we all are as a community. Like we said earlier, women, YOU ROCK! You get to rock even harder when you get even healthier!

Tip of the Week: It's Time to WAKE UP!
Our world has lost yet another entertainment icon, with the death of Whitney Houston on Saturday. It is reported that her death has come at the hands of pharmaceutical drugs. It’s time for our society to realize that we cannot rely on these dangerous and toxic substances to solve our health challenges. The unfortunate reality is that for every celebrity death due to prescription drugs, there are hundreds of thousands of everyday people dying. Prescription drugs kill over 200,000 annually in the United States. The worse part is that those are deaths from correctly prescribed medications, not from abuse. When we look at the big picture, it is clear that our government needs a major change in the way it supports the pharmaceutical giants that supply our sick-care system with drugs. But at the individual level we can make big changes. We can change ourselves and take back control of our own health. If you are taking medications now, there are ways to get healthy, get off the meds and create a drug free life for yourself. You are probably taking the meds because some organ or system in your body is expressing a level of dis-ease (not a typo). When you’re body is not functioning at its best, it has lost its state of ease. If this state of dis-ease goes uncorrected, you become diseased. What this really means is that your body is constantly communicating with you. Are you listening? Or are you silencing your body’s signals. Right now, this moment, as you read these words is your opportunity to WAKE UP! There are ways to give your body what it needs without turning to drugs. Chiropractic is one of those ways. Your brain, which controls everything cannot do its job when your nervous system is subluxated. Get it checked out today and restore your life back to the way it was when you were at the peak of your health. It is possible and we are here to help.

Tip of the Week: Getting a Great Night's Sleep
Getting a Great Night's Sleep
We cannot underestimate the importance of a great night’s sleep! We’ve all had restless nights and we’ve all experienced the next day. That slow, sluggish, tough to get through day. The unfortunate reality is that too many people are experiencing those restless nights more often than restful nights. There is a true art to getting a great sleep and here are some tips to making it happen! Positioning: Avoid sleeping on your belly. Sleep either on your back or on your side. Sleeping face down, causes rotation in neck and restricts your air flow. When you wake up and you haven’t been getting all the oxygen you need, you wake up feeling more tired than when you went to bed. The Right Pillow: Using the right pillow is critical. Pillows should be fit to your individual size. Additionally your pillow should be able to accommodate you whether you are a side sleeper or a back sleeper. The pillows we use and recommend are from Core Products. Mental Stillness: Before getting to bed make sure to release any mental distractions. One of our favorite methods to do this is through reading a positive book. Turn off the Lights: This seems like an obvious one. What we’re really getting at is eliminating light all together. Studies have shown that the less light in your bedroom, the more restful you sleep. Try to find and eliminate any sources of light that’s finding its way into your room. Examples are alarm clock lights, cracks in your shades letting in the street light or even lights from the display of electronics. Use these tip to ensure that you are getting the most out of you sleep each night! In Health, Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana
Tip of the Week: A Healthy Gut!
When we say “gut” we are talking about your digestive tract, the system responsible for absorbing the nutrients you need to fuel your body. We fuel our bodies every single meal, so are we choosing the types of foods that will keep us alive and growing or sick and dying? One of the most important things to consider when choosing your foods is the role of your immune system. That’s right we said your immune system. 80% of your body’s immune system resides within your intestines. Your immune system of course is in charge of detecting and eliminating foreign invaders like bacteria, viruses and cancer cells. So given that your immune system is in your gut, wouldn’t it be wise to know what foods are necessary both as fuel and as immune boosters?
Probiotics: Your intestinal flora, otherwise known as your good and bad bacteria, must be in proper balance. If you’ve ever been on a dose of antibiotics in your life chances are that you are lacking the proper levels of good bacteria. We recommend taking an effective probiotic supplement to even out this balance and improve digestion and boost your immune system. We personally use Total Probiotic by Nutri-West. Additionally you should be eating probiotic rich foods on a regular basis i.e. raw dairy, cultured vegetables, kombucha, etc.
Probiotic rich foods help your body stay healthy in so many ways. Incorporating probiotic supplements and foods is easy and beneficial. If you have limited experience with these foods please ask us for tips and recommendations. We want to see you functioning at your absolute best! In Health, Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana
Tip of the Week: Still Keeping Your Resolutions?
Research tells us that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. As we jump into the fourth week of the new year we ask, are you keeping your resolutions or have they already gone out the window? If you've been consistent and sticking to a new way of life, congratulations! If you've dropped the ball, don't sweat it. Start over today with renewed energy. Acknowledge that you've had a minor setback and focus on why you made the resolution in the first place. We want you to know that we are here to support you and your goals. Whether or not your goals are health related, we may be able to give you the push you need, connect you with the right person or recommend a good book to guide you along. As a team many of you have been on our 21-Day Purification Cleanse and have had great results thus far. This 21 day process is helping you to form new habits and be more conscious of your eating. You will also have an easier time sustaining a healthy eating lifestyle from here on out. Please share your goals and resolutions with us during your next visit and let's all accomplish them together as an Innate Family! In Health, Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana
Tip of the Week: Fueling Your Body
Some of you are currently going through a 21-Day Purification cleanse, some of you are starting soon, and some of you are trying to figure out what types of foods work best for you and your health goals. Whatever stage you happen to be in we're here to support and would like to invite you to a special even this Wednesday. As human beings we must nourish our bodies with the foods that fuel us and allow us to live our lives to the fullest. It seems like a simple concept but for a variety of reasons it has become overly complicated to eat the right foods in America. We are given so many mixed messages about a healthy diet and proper nutrition that it can be difficult to figure out what's actually best for us. When we see that obesity, diabetes, and chronic illness are at an all time high we need to take a good hard look at the foods we are eating. As a society our bodies are breaking down because we aren't putting the right foods into them. We must start to eat more congruently to our nature rather than eating the frankenfoods that are heavily promoted as healthy. We would like to an extend an invitation to you and any guests to a special workshop this Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Dr. Adana and Kevin Coulter of Fitness Turtles, will be presenting Nutrition for a New You! Come learn about what it really means to eat healthy, the importance of periodic cleansing, and how to adopt a new way of eating that will change your life. Call today and reserve your seats! In Health, Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana
Dr. Adana Moses of Innate Family Chiropractic Pasadena gives you some insight on starting you purification cleanse.
Tip of the Week: Setting Specific Goals Stimulates Action
We've all set goals for ourselves and not accomplished them. The common denominator is typically a lack of action. A goal without action is nothing more than wish. We need specific goals with specific action steps in order to accomplish our goals. We are in the second week of the new year and we know that many people have health and fitnness goals for themselves in 2012. We too have fitness goals and would love for you to be a part of them. This year Team Innate will be completing in the Pasadena Mini Triathlon on March 10, 2012. This fun event is only a few months away but it is definitely an achievable goal to set for yourself. Read these next two statements and notice the differences:
"I am going to exercise each week."
"I am training weekly for the Mini Triathlon on March 12, 2012."
When there is a specific objective with a deadline, it is easy to create actions that will lead you to the goal. Whether we are setting fitness goals or any other type of goal, it is important to be as specific as possible. If you would like to find out more about joining Team Innate and completing the March 12th Triathlon, please let us know and we will provide you with more details. If you would like some coaching and goal setting, please ask us during your next adjustment. As a part of your health team, one of the greatest joys comes from seeing you achieve your goals in life! In Health, Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana
Tip of the Week: 2012 = A New You!
2012 = A New You! Happy 2012! You've made it through the holidays now its time to get the year started with better health. One great way to begin the year is with a purification cleanse. On a daily basis we are exposed to toxins in our food, water and environment. It is a wise idea to help our body to rid itself of these toxins at least once per year. Think of purification cleansing as cleaning your body from the inside out. The liver, lymphatic system, kidneys, lungs, intestines, blood and skin work on constant basis to filter these toxins when they enter our body. These essential organs are the ones that benefit most from this type of cleanse. Many people start a new year with the goal of a healthier body. Unfortunately most of those people simply hit the gym and "try" eating healthy without taking the proper steps to first cleanse the body in order to start with a clean slate. We invite you to join us in this purification process. We at Innate Family Chiropractic will be cleansing with you. Collectively we have completed this cleanse nearly 10 times in the last 5 years, each time with incredible results. We will be completing the Standard Process SP cleanse. It is an easy 21 day program which gives the body plenty of nourishment and detoxification. In conjunction with the SP Cleanse on January 18, 2012 Dr. Adana and Kevin Coulter of the Fitness Turtles will be hosting a workshop on completing the cleanse and the best way to eat after the cleanse. There's no use in making HUGE progress in 21 days and then letting it slip away within a matter of months. This is a great opportunity to make a change and have a whole community of support. We look forward to all your health victories in 2012! In Health, Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana

Tip of the Week: Reasons to Give
Reasons to Give This holiday season has already been excellent and we want to keep the momentum going! We were blown away by your generosity for our Thanksgiving Food Drive and we would love your support with our upcoming Toy Drive. We would love your support in helping some local families have a great holiday season. We know that by giving to a worthy cause it reminds us how much we have to be grateful for in life. We also know that by giving to others it makes you feel good in return! Lastly here are some proven health benefits to giving to others:
Strengthening the immune-system.
A decrease in both the intensity and the awareness of physical pain.
Activation of the emotions that are vital to the maintaining good health.
Reduction of the incidence of attitudes, such as chronic hostility, that negatively arouse and damage the body.
The multiple benefits to the body's systems provided by stress relief.
Experiencing a "helper's high," a rush of euphoria, followed by a longer period of calm, after performing a kind act.
This initial rush from the "Helper's High" is followed by a longer-lasting period of improved emotional well-being.
In the next few days we will release a list of the toys we are looking for in order to fulfill the wishes of some local families. We look forward to your support!
In Health, Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana

Toy Drive We would like to thank everyone for all the wonderful donations you all made for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. We would also like to congratulate the winner of our Kindle Raffle, Miss Gabriela Cardenas!! Whoohoo! There are just a few weeks left until Christmas and we are asking all of our patients to please join us in our Holiday Toy Drive. There are a few ways that you could help and participate:
Bring in New Toys (please refrain from stuffed animals as we usually get too many of them for the children.)
Refer a friend or family member: They will get our exam and consultation for the cost of new toys equaling $30.
Pass our Tip of the Week along to whomever you think will benefit from our care, and would like to learn about their health and how chiropractic can help them live a healthier life.
Help us wrap the gifts! On the 20th of December we will be wrapping the presents at Innate Family Chiropractic for the families we will be donating to so that we could deliver the presents on Christmas Eve!
Whatever you choose we will appreciate greatly! Thank you ahead of time, now lets have a great holiday! In Health, Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana
