* HARUNO . oh boy do i . for starters , * sakura grew up in a very small family , consisting mainly of her mother , her father , & grandparents that she rarely saw / hardly knew , but because of the size of her family , every issue was personal . everything was intimate between them , in the sense that nothing was really hidden . despite not knowing her grandparents , it was stressed that blood was blood , & they are family no matter what . it was something she later grew out of , when she learned that you could pick who your family is . when she realized that tsunade was much like her mom , & kakashi was like a father figure . when naruto became her brother . it never really ended how deeply she felt for anyone though — habitually , if she cares for someone , it’s 110% . it was ingrained into her that she has a responsibility to the people she cares about , because those people might not always be around .
* sakura’s parents however , raised her harshly . not un-lovingly — they love(d) her very much . but that’s also why they were strict with her . in a very backwards way , they would both raise her up to her highest esteem , but also undermine her , to light the fires & make her work harder . it was something sakura hated about them but also loved , because it helped her learn to push past her own boundaries , & helped her learn what sort of person she would be . most importantly , what sort of mother she would be . the female role models in sakura’s life have only ever taught her tough love . it hardened her , & revealed to her the real difficulties of the world . of being a woman , of being a kunoichi . with sarada , nothing is without structure . sakura is a loving & doting mother — & instead of undermining her daughter’s abilities , she challenges them . in hopes that sarada might never have to question herself , like sakura did .

SHE NEVER THOUGHT the way he touched her could be soft . even like this , she is aware of her edges — like this , perhaps she’s even more so . but it’s become less of a raw feeling & more of an expectation , one she answers in turn the only way she knows how : by following trajectory with brutal force that’s normal for them , even in a kiss that she snatches from his top lip followed by a cuff to his arm . both have the intention to be sweet . ❛ what’s that for , hm ? ❜ she smiles / less like a tidal force & more like a natural curve of the earth . ❛ did ‘ya do something ? ❜
* HARUNO . it’s of course japanese custom to use honorifics & titles , but think about this for a minute : s.akura was raised by a small , lower ranking family . with no aristocratic ties . it would’ve been ingrained in her mind , in her upbringing , to always address someone with respect . aside from with people her own age , she will ALWAYS use honorifics . k.akashi will always be kakashi-sensei . t.sunade will always be tsunade-shishou or “lady hokage” . like an american equivalent , her parents were always “ma’am” or “sir” . her patients are always addressed with the formal “-san” & anyone of a higher social status , she uses “-sama” . Respect is of the upmost importance to her .
❛ SO LONG AS you are my patient , anything outside of your care is irrelevant . ❜ it’s habit now , that she hardens on the precipice --- & it is only from the stacking of her spine & the way she’s tied to the earth that she is able to measure the time that’s passed like a distance ; counting scars like tics on a ruler & none of them were marked by itachi uchiha . the only thing to fear now , is failure . ❛ You are safe in this room , Uchiha - sama . ❜

‘ NO —- but, it is the truth. i see now the mistakes i’ve made. ‘ blinded by the will of his hatred, he saw nothing but his goal. the fire of humanity once ripped from his heart. he wasn’t sure how to live with the realization, only to attempt to heal the wounds he caused.
❛ PITY IT TOOK YOU SO LONG . though ‘mistakes’ might be too nice a word for it . ❜ forgive & forget are two words far too intimate with each other , for one to sound so soft while the other sounds so sharp . as much as they are said together , one does not foster the other . like lightening & earth . like sasuke & sakura . ❛ what do you want from me , sasuke ? ❜ the name itself is far less a sacred thing than it used to be & the spark it carries has shifted .

* so below the cut , i’m going to explain how my portrayal of sakura is canon divergent & majorly more “progressive” than the standards we were set with in the anime / manga . check a look if you’d like , this is more or less a list for myself so that i could add it to her pages later !
001 . sakura haruno , as a child in the academy , was of course extremely intelligent & well past the level of “advanced” for a child her age , in terms of academics & physical application of ninja techniques & jutsus . she had an innate strength , which later on helped her train in the harsh regimen that tsunade placed her under . as a personal choice , she focused more on academics than physical capability , but that never meant it wasn’t there .
002 . as a child , where in the show we see her being “scrappy” in terms of a joke , or for comical relief , it was much more a realistic personality trait for her . she was still shy , and polite , but anything resulting in a fight -- she would come out with bruised knuckles just as much as the other person would . being at the level of intelligence and potential as she was , she would get picked on . and being raised in a middle class ninja family , without the privilege of a higher-classed bloodline or the abilities that went along with it , she was raised to fight harder . to stick up for herself . to mean every word and the hits that followed them .
003 . sakura loved hard and easy . her parents both married for love , and in her upbringing she was exposed to how easily they fell in line with each other because of that mutual infatuation . as most kids do in reality , sakura idolized that connection and wanted to have that for herself . which led to her obsessive adoration for sasuke . raised outside of aristocratic relationships , she loved ( or thought she did ) sasuke for his attitude , for the way he held himself , & not for the benefits that came with marrying him . after he left , the illusion of that was shattered . she realized it wasn’t simple , as her parents made it look . and it wasn’t the first person you saw . it took work , it took mutual respect , and it took a certain level of self - confidence that she didn’t have yet . ** after sasuke left , sakura hardened her heart , stiffened her upper lip and worked hard for herself . as she should’ve done all along . she cared for him as team mate and wanted him back because of that bond , but it was no longer out of the same infatuation .
004 . after naruto left for training , and tsunade took her as a disciple , sakura threw herself into training in both physical prowess and medical studies . sakura became well affiliated with the grit and gore that followed both , and felt a profound loss at a young age that did not come from losing a team mate , but from losing a patient she was responsible for . seeing someone pass on despite effort . while she had become acquainted with mortality when she became a kunoichi , it was another thing entirely when she felt it pass under her own hands . from that point on , she studied tirelessly . every minute of every day was devoted to becoming the best that she could so she didn’t lose another patient . so that she could be strong for herself in order to help others . not for sasuke , not for naruto , but for her own needs .
005 . sakura grew into her independence well , after a shaky start . she learned the ins and outs of medicine , of throwing and carrying her own weight , and she learned how to look at the world as a woman . she saw disadvantages just as all women did . and knocked them down as much as they did her . after becoming a chunin , she quickly fell into the role of a jounin . earlier , than what is set in the show . and with great difficulty . realistically , her level of ninja ability and intelligence should’ve placed her at jounin level as the same time as shikamaru . but because she did not pass the chunin exams , she wasn’t qualified technically . but ability wise , she was . by the time she and naruto meet again on his return , she is fighting for her rank as a jounin .
* HARUNO . hey there what’s good do you ever sit down to think about how sakura warrior queen doctor extraordinaire haruno does not have the benefit of bloodline abilities & how everything she’s ever accomplished was through sheer force of will & intelligence & strength & how everything she gets ; every scar , every smile from a patient she treats , every ounce of self respect she develops , has been something she EARNED all on her own ??? yeah same . thanks .
