Barbara Brennan - Chakras, “Hands of Light: A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field”, 1988.
When the Chakras function well, the front and back parts are well-balanced, the Chakras have the right funnel-shaped form, they turn to the right and have the right size. When this is not the case, the Chakra in question will cause problems in the field for which it is responsible. To give an example: if the first Chakra does not work well, it may be that someone gets physical ailments, but it may also result in his losing his self-confidence. For such a person, it is important to start playing sports and do visualization exercises that stimulate his first Chakra.
Chakras can be impaired in various ways: they may be torn, they may too small, too open, or have a wrong shape. When this is the case, a healer will try to find problems that cause this unpleasant situation. Why does the Chakra suffer from spasms? What lifelong problem may be the cause of it? Many people have warped convictions or feelings that impair the Chakras. A conviction like “I am not good enough” will impair a person’s confidence and with that, the first Chakra is affected. Another example: if a person thinks he is not creative, his sixth Chakra will be weak.
