Of course they didn’t. They never had time for the hostages. They didn’t give a shit about overworking them, stressing them out, causing them trauma that would never go away. They claimed they wouldn’t hurt him, but mental pain was just as bad as physical! Did Rio just not realize that? He seemed like a decent kid — a brainwashed and naive young person, just like Mónica. Arturo almost felt badly for him.

“You know better than this.” Arturo looked Rio directly in the eyes. Unlike some of the more intimidating robbers, he could see the genuine conflict in the boy’s eyes — or so he thought. “Do you not realize how much pain and suffering you’re causing?” Arturo let out a soft sigh, running a hand through his own hair. He needed to seem like he was completely exhausted. It was all manipulation, of course, but the kid didn’t have to know that. “I have children… one of them is about your age, and I would be so disappointed if he threw away his life. Rio…” He lowered his voice to a whisper. “These… these terrorists? You owe them nothing.”

      surely he is better at keeping his temper in check , especially compared to some of his city-named friends — though the longer rio listens to what arturo has to say , the more he understands the urge to just shut him up in whatever way possible . the exhaustion on his features is almost believable , almost , but it is the mention of a supposed son his age that does it . “ shut up . ” the barrel of the gun roughly nudges the other’s shoulder in order to get him moving , motioning  towards the sink .  

      even considering that the man had a point would equal following a dangerous path and he could not afford to lose face in front of a goddamn hostage , let alone someone that clearly enjoyed causing trouble as much as arturo did . “ do i look like your foolish assistant that you managed to convince about your undying love ? ” he did not want to bring that particular subject up , but if the other man was going to try and play mind games , he might as well fire back. he was sick of being treated as someone weak . especially from someone that thought he would be so easy to be manipulated . especially because it’s already been proven true before . “ get on with it , you’ve got work to do . can’t just sit here all day . ”
