a surprise reunion | tanjiro & giyuu

One blink. Then another. There was no mistaking that figure before him. So even he’d been summoned as well? There was a sort of…comfort, he reasoned, in knowing there was a familiar face among the crowd of modern people and their Servants, ones he’d never be able to recognize, even if the Grail did take care of any relevant knowledge. He wasn’t one to think about it–or care, if one were to be particularly honest.
He’d gotten a rather eccentric Master, after all. That took most of his attention, especially making sure she didn’t get hurt in her recklessness. Though seeing the young boy again also brought with it a sense of…melancholy? Perhaps regret that, even now, the boy might have to fight at some point. Though perhaps he had gotten lucky–maybe he wouldn’t have to, and could simply live a normal life like so many other Servants were doing now. A second chance…well, circumstances would likely make that rather bittersweet, especially given the things they’d gone through in life.
Still, the boy had stubbornly befriended him, so it wasn’t like he was just going to turn around and pretend he’d never seen him. Though there was certainly a time Giyuu would have tried, Tanjiro was the sort of person you just couldn’t hate.
“Tanjiro,” he greeted, a simple nod of his head. “You were summoned too?” Truly, a master of conversation he was.
It was comical the way their initial reactions seemed to match up, even their slow blinking was synchronized. Though once it registered, Tanjiro’s surprise turned to excitement. Surely, he would have picked up on Tomioka’s scent nonetheless.
“Tomioka-san!” Tanjiro was quick to close the distance between them all the while maintaining an appropriate space apart.
Giyuu Tomioka, the water Hashira, looked identical to that time. Tanjiro also resembled himself at fifteen years when he had become a full fledged member of the Demon Slayer Corps. From his understanding, heroic spirits maintained the form where they had either performed their heroic deeds or in their prime. “What a coincidence!” Tanjiro’s deep red eyes twinkled as he took in the sight of the long haired male in his mismatched haori.
“Nezuko is here too! We were summoned together! I’m sure she would be really happy to see you as well!”
Tanjiro’s joy was practically palpable. “This is nostalgic. I wondered if we would run into anyone familiar here. Can’t say I’m surprised that someone like you ended up as a heroic spirit. Have you found a Master?”
